Why isn't there OREO?

Good day all,
Thank you for reading my question.
My previous phone was a Nexus 6. On that phone I have OREO. There are multiple devs baking these ROMs.
When I ordered my U11, I searched on XDA for an OREO ROM, but couldn't find any.
Why is this?
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for the answer.
I understand that Sense isn't available for OREO.
But, do we need Sense? Is Sense needed for a ROM in our U11? Why isn't there a Dev making an AOSP version for the U11?
Personally, I'm not waiting on Sense or other add-ons. I would be very happy with just an AOSP version

I just dropped the questions out of interest.

There is one AOSP rom available for the U11 for nougat. But even that is still in alpha.
AOSP roms on HTC devices often lack on proper camera support and device specific functions like Edge Sense or Motion Gesture etc won't work...and there are always other little and sometimes bigger things not working here and there.

Don't forget, depending on where in the world you are, it's not just HTC that needs to tweak oreo for the u11. Carriers also need to do some tweaks sometimes (Sprint for example), that ads a large delay because carriers are slow as heck in getting it done.

I understand you OP, i've had a Nexus 5X for two years and already had Android 8 since the beginning of the summer (beta program) and already had 8.1 for a while.
When i switched for the U11 i was kinda surprised it was running 7.1.1 but from what i've heard the OTA is coming Q4 so we'll get it in a few days i guess :)

When i had the One M8 i loved my AOSP rom but as it's been said, that squeeze thing couldn't work and a few more things probably, i guess we're stuck with Sense, i'm glad it's a good UI not like Samsung's or LG's

ADW2 seems to work well on my U11 though, at least it gives some tweaks that Sense doesen't.

FWIW, the OREO update came up on my unlocked HTC U11 on 11/29/17. Three things I've noticed since HTC adapted OREO's personalization features to HTC Sense:

1) You cannot change the shape of the icons
2) You cannot change the color of the notification dots
3) All icons downloaded from HTC Themes get reshaped into a cushion silhouette

But all in all, these personalization limits are nothing to get worried about. I'm pleased with the smooth functionality overall.
