I a recent conversation posted to @BeansTown106, where I stated that the note 3's (using 4.4.2) affinity for simultaneously running wifi and mobile data in some cases. I raised concerns, and @BeansTown106 stated a couple of things about what I saw...

1. In 4.4.2, the way the OS presents the mobile icon (keeping it visible) while wifi is on, is normal -

2. I asked if there was a security issue if both were on, and he did not think so - also hinting that if wifi is on (and connected) mobile data is not.

ok

However, I am discovering that wifi and mobile data are being interfered with in a few cases - I ask anyone with knowledge of this to step forward to qualify what I am about to say...

two apps play a role and force wifi / mobile data to be engaged at the same time. or, they affect the cutover from mobile data to wifi...

1. an application called Galaxy Locker (replacement lock screen) - when installed on 4.4.2 interferes with wifi and mobile data - if the application is set to run, it will prevent turning off mobile data if wifi is turned on...

2. The caller ID (canid.apk) application that Verizon is including in their standard app package - either solely uses mobile data only or has the same impact the other application does, and both wifi and mobile data stay on

both ridiculously annoying and eat your data plan needlessly...

having said all that I will end with a general statement -

I have not seen an application truly fail in 4.4.2, they generally weather well, with no problem - with the exception of the dreaded Skype issue eating battery.

But generally speaking, an application may seem to work, but not really be compatible and cause unexpected behavior - this is not a revelation, right?

If you are expecting your phone to act a certain way and cannot find the issue. start either eliminating apps or temporarily turn them off and see if your phone does better...

general comment about 4.2.2 (NC2) -

I like it. Yes, I have done a mass debloat job for sure, wherever possible de-Samsunged, de-googled, and definitely de-Verizoned where possible. I even removed hangouts, and gmail and most of the google framework - after I added all the essential applications from the play store followed by removing my google account from the phone - it runs fantastic, no on-the-surface issues / errors

my note 3 4.4.2 is leaned out -

all-in-all I removed about 650MB from system/apps / system/priv-app, and data/app - and I have excellent battery life, fast charging, use the true Hardware GPS (with no Verizon location services involved - thanks to power toggles gps toggle feature). Yep, that's right, in note 3 (4.4.2), if you opt to use GPS only in location settings it still engages Verizon location services too - they lied about gps only... it's not. but with power toggles it does in fact ONLY use the hardware GPS :) with accuracy between 6 to 10 to 13 ft - usually 10ft though most of the time.

So, for those who are having trouble with kitkat - not sure what you are doing, but it is fast IMO

I want to add one more thing about this behavior. It has been present on TouchWiz devices since the 4.3 update, both on the Note 3 and 2 (and Galaxy S I am assuming). Back on 4.1, the data connection was fully disabled when wifi was connected. At that time the only network connection would be 1X, not even 3G or LTE. Since 4.3, wifi connected does not disable 3G and LTE. I originally noticed because I only used wifi in low signal areas where mobile data killed my battery, but it didn't seem to help since 4.3.

So you ripped out all or most of the google stuff and suddenly your phone runs great. But how is it not completely useless? Why on earth would you rip out all the SMS apps? You de-googled, de-samsunged, and de-verizoned your phone and you're left with what exactly? By my reckoning the phone should be basically useless without any of the software from these 3 companies.

I guess I'm curious why you wouldn't just flash and AOKP rom and be done with it? Or, you know, buy a nexus device.

I have a rooted, somewhat debloated, but otherwise stock 4.3 (MJE) that does turn off (disconnect) mobile data network when wifi is connected to a hotspot. Both the mobile data icon in the notification bar goes away and settings->about->status Mobile Network State shows disconnected. And battery life is 20 to 30% better.

Mobile network state may be disconnected, but what does Mobile network type show?

Mobile Network Type is always LTE, even if I turn Mobile Data off in setup. I believe that references the type of tower I am connected to (CDMA or LTE) only....whether I have data via the mobile network or not.

Did you keep a list of what you removed?
I turned off in App Manager or froze them via Titanium Backup....I didn't actually remove them. I also have a 32Gb external card...so have tons of room so for ME...no need to delete.

Just keep in mind that some apps keep running even if you freeze them, the only way to truly remove them is to delete them.

I had setup my apps that I want, and then removed the frameworks and the applications (google, Samsung, Verizon**) -

** there are some basic apps I use, like My Verizon / Voicemail - the essentials, that's it. I found a way to not engage location (real gps, not Verizon location services or google services)

I use Samsung's phone / sms etc...

So, what am I left with -

I am left with a phone that is closer to "just" a phone. There are apps, but basic apps...
