my Galaxy s3 has 4.1 and wifi direct. I tried it out on galaxy tab 2 demo at the store between the phone and tablet. Does the a500 have this available? My a500 is sxtock ics and not rooted.

I would like to transfer files and better yet, I would like to open a file stored on the phone (spreadsheet or pdf) on the tablet and save any changes back to the phone.

What I don't want is to need a Wi-Fi router between. Most of my files are on the phone. The phone is always with me. The tablet is not, so I would like to just remotely access the files on the bigger screen and save changes or annotations to the phone.

I'm replying to my own message to help get it new life. I'd really like to know if the WiFi Direct is something that is able to be done on my Acer.

Thanks.

I use SwiFTP. It will let you turn your phone / tablet into a file server. You can also use ES File Explorer to access files via ftp or lan.

SanDiegoan, we are building an app that does exactly just that. The app is called Drop, and it is a simple, fast, and secure way to share files with people/devices in proximity. We are going into a limited Private Beta soon, so if you're up for the challenge, (and running Jelly Bean) then sign up at www.get-drop.com. Seats are limited, and we have a rolling enrollment, so check it out.
