Will it be possible to root AT&T version?

Does the community need a system dump of the AT&T GalaxyS II?

I -could- have a means of dumping it if I knew how..
Yes, but right now the method for getting a dump will potentially screw up your device mildly - see alton987's post on page 2.

Hopefully alton will see my posts and get a system dump since he's already flashed a rooted kernel.

Call quality is MUCH better than my infuse. People can actually hear me!
Wow, I've never had any complaints on this even with window down driving. Cappy couldn't handle that. This is almost too loud... I actually keep volume down because speaker is too loud in my ear. Never that with cappy. If Gs2 is better then I'll be def soon.

And the Infuse is a million times better than the Captivate while running a ROM that didn't suck (anything i9000 derived).

So that's good to hear.

I've yet to find anything the Infuse does better.

Also happy/unhappy to hear about your call quality issues on your Infuse. Thought my wife was originally just messing with me since I change and hack my phones so often. Eventually some others complained. May be coincidental but I think it only happened on Froyo Roms. Running 1.6 now due to data speeds and reliability, but while running GB variants I don't recall any complaints. Have noise suppression turned off on froyo but wasn't option on GB.

Just picked up the Galaxy S II earlier today and can say, this is the best phone i have used. The display is great, along with the speed of this device.

Now to wait for some rooting and some custom ROMs.

Anyone get the built in tether to work? I get an error, saying account not setup. I was using the tether with my Nexus S.

The built-in tether is hobbled by bigbrotherware that checks if your account is provisioned for tethering.

If it's the same approach used on the Infuse it'll be easy to get rid of. All of our custom ROMs allow for tethering.

But beware - AT&T is really cracking down on tethering. If you do light tethering and your data usage is low you seem OK, but if your data usage is very high (>4-6 GB/month) AT&T starts looking more closely. Lots of Infuse users have gotten nastygrams, but I haven't and another guy hasn't. My usual usage is less than 1GB, his is 3.5.

Try changing the browser string on the laptop browser to be the same as your phones if you're browsing over your tethered link. They can't tell unless they inspect the data going across, and the browser string is one of the easy ways to tell as it goes in plain-text.

To everyone who has the phone already - we need a dump of the system before we can put up working kernels, and even a working CyanogenMod . . . before installing anything else, please take the time to contact one of the developers and ask how you can help us out by dumping the system files, the kernel, etc.

Btw, you cant dump the kernel without root.
So we must pull it of sammy servers.

Yes, we know - we just need a few people to contact us so we can tell them how to dump the system, and then dump the kernel. We actually just want the initramfs files really, but ideally need a couple of people with unmodified phones to contact us (either me or codeworkx).

I rooted after flashing the kernal and using superpowers click. Read the directions when you get hung up at step 6 and toggle USB development off then back on. Then plug USB cord back in. It rooted after that.
