Ventura, Ca.
I rooted after flashing the kernal and using superpowers click. Read the directions when you get hung up at step 6 and toggle USB development off then back on. Then plug USB cord back in. It rooted after that.

Confirmed also working just fine on my phone with the above link and method...Easy as all other phones I have previously used and rooted. Just FOLLOW the steps and notes and you will not have any issues rooting or getting ready for some SGSII good fun! Can't wait for the ROMs to start showing up! ;)

The built-in tether is hobbled by bigbrotherware that checks if your account is provisioned for tethering.

If it's the same approach used on the Infuse it'll be easy to get rid of. All of our custom ROMs allow for tethering.

But beware - AT&T is really cracking down on tethering. If you do light tethering and your data usage is low you seem OK, but if your data usage is very high (>4-6 GB/month) AT&T starts looking more closely. Lots of Infuse users have gotten nastygrams, but I haven't and another guy hasn't. My usual usage is less than 1GB, his is 3.5.
My tethering is very low. I actually use more data on the phone with Navigation and online music. Also when i tether i connect my tablet, so hopefully doesn't draw too much attention. Hopfully the custom ROMs will be out soon.

Dump of SGS II - SGH-I777

To everyone who has the phone already - we need a dump of the system before we can put up working kernels, and even a working CyanogenMod . . . before installing anything else, please take the time to contact one of the developers and ask how you can help us out by dumping the system files, the kernel, etc.
I have a phone. I just need the instructions on how to dump the necessary files.
