Sony Xperia 5 IV
Sony Xperia 1 V
I'm following all news about 5 V very closely. I consider next generation xperias a whole new level, including 1 V. And I knew when I bought 5 IV that it won't last more than to beginning of 2014.

The reason is in one of the worst processors ever with overheating problem and poor cooling system. And in below average point and shoot camera functionality.

Currently, we don't know much about 5 V. But there are some hints that it would be stripped of a lot of functionality. If so, I would rather wait a price drop of 1 V and go for it. Or, maybe we will be surprised with the new Pro-I, which might be the photo beast.

Anyway, I won't ditch Sony for any other brand. Not because it's main selling points, 3.5 jack and sd card, I never used them. Because of design, sw, new camera, audio, video, display, battery and my favorites: side fingerprint and now grippy back and sides.

I just manged to break my 5 ii.
Am considering getting the 5 V when that comes out, but the lack of notification LED has me thinking about getting a 5 iv used instead

I have the Xperia 5 III. I thought the IV was a step back. I've seen nothing about the Xperia 5 V that intrigues me but there isn't much out on the net. I live in Mexico and the Xperia 1 V will cost right at $2,000. I love taking photos and I'll stick with my Xperia 5 III as long as I can. I'm 82 so it doesn't have to be all that long.

Sony Xperia 5 IV
Sony Xperia 1 V
Some time has passed, and we're getting closer to the new Xperia 5 V. There are rumors that it might be launched earlier than previous year, and some others that it might already have Android 14. This is not so far fetched as A14 supposed to come earlier this year.
The obvious proof that Xperia 5 V is not far away is a leaked video, published on Redit (
). It's true, it hasn't been leaked by Sony, but it's professional and Sony has already confirmed that it is authentic. We know how it goes, those kinds of leaks are often triggered from producer to hook the potential buyers.
Anyway, there was a lot of buzz lately about device specifications, especially it was a feel of disappointment because the newcomer obviously only has two back cameras. Potential buyers accuse Sony that it ditched the telephoto camera, and it is outrageous. The first time, model 5 substantially differs from model 1, and it might have been done to reduce the costs.
But there are other explanations possible. Xperia 5 is smaller than 1, but it has all the features of the larger one. It keeps 3.5 audio jack, sd card slot and squeezing all these into a smaller space might be a technical problem. The actual model suffers from overheating, and it has problems with the compass.
It is obvious from the design that Sony tries to address younger generations with the next model. And it may not ditch the telephoto camera but the wide one. From the attached picture, it could be seen that the upper camera can be telephoto (size and shape). The bottom one, which supposed to be the new main shooter from Experia 1 V, could with smart configuration easily replaced need for an extra wide camera (bottom line: it is always panorama mode available).
And one more thing: the narrow gap between the frame and the backplate could show that the glass is replaced with a plastic. If that is true, I welcome the solution. Durable plastic could serve the purpose better than fragile and heavy glass.

I'm thrilled to find more about the new Xperia model and I hope that it will be available soon.

I have an Xperia 5 III. I'm mostly deaf and my major focus on a phone is the camera. I had Huawei and Nexus and Pixel phones but for taking photos they weren't any fun. I went with Xperia 5 for Photo Pro. I had fun again. It went fine until iteration IV. The Xperia 1 IV had a great camera setup and the Xperia 5 IV made a step back. Specifically, it went from four focal lengths to three. The Xperia 5 V seems to be going either farther back with two focal lengths. It's my impression that Sony is targeting videographers and not photographers.

It looks like I'll be sticking with my Xperia 5 III until the battery dies. Since I live in Mexico, an Xperia 1 V would cost me about $1800 with accessories such as screen protectors, case, and holster. I won't be doing that.

Sony isn't noted for stellar support for phones so when the Xperia 5 III quits getting updates I probably won't notice.

There are some strong indicators showing release date of Xperia 5 V. After leaked promotional video, the official announcement is expected to happen around IFA Berlin 2023, that's the beginning of September. While there are still no words about specifications, the price was leaked today. Xperia 5 V supposed to cost GBP949, what is equal €1100 and USD1200. For that price, a decent camera's configuration is more than justified.

Can you tell us more, please? What model do you have? xq-de72 or xq-de54? And why do you have to swap the phone?

I have the xq-de72, dual sim asian version, when you first setup the phone, on youtube, when press comment for short video (veritcal video), the video goes to youtube video homescreen, once you update youtube, it should be back to normal, the other problem, so far is not fixed yet, when watching short video's, some times it happen's, before the video finish, it jumps to the next video for example if the video finish at 20 seconds, the video sometimes jumps when it reaches 16 seconds.

also may I ask, what do you get with the phone in you country, HK get a XQZ-CBDE case with stand, and a WF C700N ear phones free.

HK official price is HKD 7499

Thank you for your answer. I've ordered the EU model (XQ-DE54) and it's hopefully due by the end of next week. I'ts gonna come bare, just the phone, but I don't really care. I could get the Sony headphones, but I rather opted for Amazon's extended 3 years warranty. I've got more than enough stuff from my previous phones. The price is 1000€ (845+ VAT) and is expected to fall around Black Friday.
