I'm glad you got things the way you like them. As far as updates go, Falcon342 gave you the options. I would just add that I don't think Amazon's biggest concern is security when they release an update. Their main concern appears to be "feature" updates and closing the holes we use to modify their tablets. I don't believe they're necessary. I think they're up to v7.3.2.0 on their latest tablets while I keep running smoothly on v7.3.1.2.thanks i solved i managed to delete the app. One more question to know if there are new updates released for the system should I re-enable OTA Update? or is there another way? Thank you
Thanks for such a great, easy to use tool! Can you advise on the pickle I've gotten myself into?
I am installing Google services on a 9th gen HD10, but both PlayServices & PlayStore apk's are throwing up "INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE" error messages. I removed the previous install and rebooted, then retried - no luck. Am I doomed to a factory reset or am I missing something?
Cheers,
Michael
Thanks for the tip, but I think the versions are too old - I must have updated Play Store & Services, more recent than the .apk's Toolbox downloads, and much more recent than the apk's in the archive attached to one of the posts you linked me to (Google-Services-For-FireOS7.zip).This seems to be happening a lot again. See Falcon342's post #6160 for manual installation instructions.

I'll factory reset - only playing D3 anyway

Yeah, seems Play Services refuses to install if it's not the latest version or within a certain "new" threshold...This seems to be happening a lot again. See Falcon342's post #6160 for manual installation instructions.

Greetings my friend!Hi, I used this tool so i could get all the bloatware off the the tablet when i bought it last December. After doing so, I am unable to update it to the most current version. Can you plz advise what I need to do to in order to accomplish this? Thx
Ok, I agree with you DS33. I wont update it.Greetings my friend!
I'd highly recommend not updating the tablet as it could add in new "features" you don't want such as Device Dashboard (if the tablet doesn't have it already). However, it is your tablet and if you really want to update then by all means feel free to!
Here's a quick little guide to re-enable OTAs:
That should do the trick! If you need further help please by all means ask, and we'll do our best to assist in any way we can! Best of luck and hopefully all goes well!
- Open the Toolbox, and click the second radio button at the bottom right to navigate to Main Menu 2.
- Execute the Modify System Settings tool.
- In the General category, toggle the switch next to OTA Updates.

Sounds good my friend!
Hey guys, I'm probably late to the party but can someone please share a link with the solution? I looked and kind find it...
First off, thx for the awesome tool. My question: After I've done a few changes with the toolbox, once i restart the fire HD 8 2016, the home screen just keeps flashing and refreshing. Settings work fine, lock screen works fine, just home screen keeps crashing and refreshing. Is it a launcher problem? Only factory reset can fix it so far...
Thx!
Some questions:
1 - Is this a fresh install or are there already apps on the tablet? You mentioned factory reset curing it. Did you try modifying with the toolbox before installing any apps?
2 - What firmware version are you running? 7.3.1.9?
It could be the way the launcher is replaced that's causing the problem. Is there more than 1 option in Toolbox for Custom launcher replacement? I mean there's the downgrade and disable option, and just the replacement option depending on your firmware version. Also, you might have better luck with a different launcher. Nova Launcher is a common choice that seems to work well. I would suggest that launcher if you chose something else to replace the Fire Launcher.
That was some healthy advice! Yes I changed the launcher method to "launcher hijacker" instead of downgrading the Fire Launcher. Worked. Nova keeps telling me it's not the "default launcher" but everything works smoothly.
Thx a lot!
I don't think (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) Launcher Hijack actually sets the default launcher system wide, I believe it intercepts the home button press and launches the custom Launcher (set as default in the app). As far as Android is concerned, Fire Launcher is still the default launcher.
There is even a hidden settings activity where you can change the default launcher system-wide but changing to a custom launcher has no effect and is ignored. It's setup so that Fire Launcher is ALWAYS the default launcher no matter what.

I didn't. I just went on Google Images, downloaded a picture of the navbar (for both Samsung and Pixel), then in photoshop I proceeded to cut the icons out from the downloaded picture, placed them in a new 24x24 canvas, resized them appropriately, and exported them as a .png.How did you extract the Home, Back and Recents icons from the Samsung & Pixel devices?
That is good to hear. Would you kindly please install Google Authenticator and advise if it's working on the latest firmware? Greatly appreciated.
Yep - Max 11That’s encouraging, is yours a Fire Max 11 too?
I gave up after three tries as every time after about 7-10 days I would get crashing apps, but funnily no problems with Play store or Google apps. It was usually browsers, Outlook and some others, but always the same ones.
I am currently running mine stock, but all apps not available from Amazon I am getting from Uptodown and it’s been working flawlessly. The only thing I don’t have is the Google apps which I am not missing really, but I may give FTB another go if it is more stable on 8.3.2.0
Greetings!

My Home Button isn't working after using the Custom Launcher Tool?Due to the way the process works, it alters your navigation bar's home key to send a key event that can be picked up by Automate. Once Automate reads this event, it launches your custom launcher automatically. However, if the flow in Automate isn't running, the navbar key will not work, and nothing will happen when it's tapped. To fix this, either open Automate and start the "Launcher Invoker" flow again, or execute the Custom Launcher tool in the Toolbox, click the ":" icon (upper-right) to show the Tool Options panel, and click the "Restore Navigation Bar" button to restore the stock layout.
Google Family Link won't work on my tablet?Unfortuently, no matter how hard we try, we still haven't been able to get Family Link to work correctly on the tablets. The Family Link app fails to install, and the Child account refuses to login. No matter what we tried, we couldn't get a Child account to work on the tablets. We believe this has to do with missing dependecies, and the tablets not being certified through Google's Play Protect platform. We're still activly looking into getting the issue resolved. Until then, it's recommended that you use an alternative such as Amazon's FreeTime, Eyezy, or another third-party family managing software.
How can I remove a Google Account from my tablet?Because of the missing accounts section in the Settings app it will be a little more difficult to remove Google Accounts directly from the tablet. The easiest way that I've found is to visit this page: https://myaccount.google.com/security, sign-in to your Google Account, scroll down to "Your Devices" and click the "Manage devices" button. From the list of devices find your tablet and in the upper right-corner click the 3-dot icon and from the list select "Sign out".
Can the Toolbox be used to root my tablet?Primarly, rooting a Fire Tablet requires the user to open the back of the device and short out a certain point on the motherboard. The Toolbox has been designed for folks who'd rather not bark down this alley. It uses the power of ADB to make changes, and is meant to be an alternative to rooting. In summery, the Toolbox isn't designed to root.
The Toolbox is being marked as a virus? This is likely because the Toolbox (and it's installer) aren't signed with a software license. This freaks Windows out because it sees that there is no publisher, and as a result it displays a warning (smartscreen). In addition, some anti-viruses might also flag the Toolbox as a virus simply because the build is relatively new and there is no record of it in the anti-viruses database, resulting in a false positve. As always, I take your security and privacy VERY seriously! If you do not feel safe with installing the Toolbox due to virus concerns, I respect and support your decision. It is always up to the user and their judgment!
