The up/downscaling would be handled by the graphics chip, as it has to do that on a regular basis whenever rendering 3d-content that has a texture on it that is larger than it is displayed.

The easy reason why there won't be upgrades is that WP7 is not backwards compatible and that there are LOTS of people out there who would not be to happy having their phone upgraded to a version which would be unable to run any software they own, like e.g. Navigation Software.

Providing for a way back to the old OS would mean lots of extra effort by MS/HTC just to enable it. The experience would also possibly be quite bad as WP7 wasn't designed to deal with user removable storage.

Some people only get Firmware upgrades when they take their phone to a store because they have issues with it. Imagine someone taking his WM Phone there and they flash Android on it - it would be pretty much the same: EVERYTHING is different, your Software doesn't work and so on.

The Hardware of the HD2 wouldn't be a problem. The resolution of 800x480 is the default resolution of WP7, the 1 Ghz is what we will most likely see in several release devices and the ROM would fit into the HD2s ROM, as at least the leaked RC1 and the x86-Emulator-ROMs were smaller than e.g. Energy's ROMs.

I don't know this 100% for sure, but AFAIK the screen on the HD2 is capable of true multi-touch, as in - as many fingers as you can fit on it. The reason it's only currently capable of 2 point touch is because there aren't drivers available to handle more. The drivers that are currently available were adapated from the HTC drivers, which don't handle full multi-touch - just 2 point touch.

What makes you think that the HD2 is capable of more than 2 fingers at a time? All of HTCs capacitive screen devices have used the clearpad2000 afaik... at least the nexus one did, I know. They are starting to use a new touch sensor in the incredible and evo4g that is cabable of unlimited touches, but these are the 1st devices they are using it in. The clearpad2000 is only capable of 2 touches, and since the HD2 was made around the same time as the nexus one, I would think they probably used the same touch sensor. I hope that they used a better sensor, but odds are they didn't. Maybe dcordes or the other HD2 linux port devs might know, as they are trying to get drivers for the touchscreen. It would be great if the HD2 is capable of unlimited touches... that would make the WP7 and Android ports much nicer.

I think it is possible to get the WP7 on the Hd2 bugfree, cause if 1 or more of your professionals can make it you can make a version without xbox live or apps who need much ressources.

The only problem and i am not at all skilled in any kind of programmation, is the problem to run the os via storage card

Dude, first off, I didn't quite get what you meant by storage card. The storage card is user replaceable. I think you're referring to the ROM of the device which should be big enough (post right above me is correct) to take the WP7 ROM.

I'd like to see WP7 ported to the HD2, but only because I want the option to be able to replace my OS and see what's up with WP7, same for the android, but really, I bought the HD2 because it's fast, it's sleek and it runs all the apps I need, and that should be good enough for me to keep it and be happy with it. Also, I have a ton on ROMs I can try out.

Don't think so, it looks perfectly scaled to be emulated...and when you look at it it isnt as buggy when he's scrolling but it is when he switches tabs.

I don't even like the Window 7, seriously you have to scroll hell long to get to a task, why not use the window 6.5x and custom with your fav custom RoM, add the co0kies on top, and you ready to go. I think what the window lacks is marketing, just show me what is so big about iphone? seriously, or look at the Android, I rather like the Android.

This is simple.

This is very simple... No lies... No BS..... If you want a media center to watch movies on travel with and whatnot yet still make calls and surf the web a bit. Get the HD2. For that its no contest what so ever. The HD2 plays all media formats. Android does not. You need to size the video and reformat it for Android. Android is more of a 1 in all Phone. The HD2 is a media center which is what i use mine for. I have delt with android and I got rid of my Nexus One for the HD2 I use my phone as a portable entertainment center. Windows mobile luanches a phone APP!!!! To make calls. The android is a phone it self. HD2 is more of a laptop on the go with a phone mode. IMO To be more blunt...

Tech Savvy Person = HD2
Average Person= Android

Period. No gray area there. It is black and white. Its like a Corvette VS a SUV. It all depends what you want to use it for. One is not better than the ohter; however a Techy will get more out of the HD2. I work for Nvidia and you could not pay me to leave the HD2. Most of the people I work with use Windows Mobile also btw.... So its more about what kind of person you are..

It plays all media formats? Since when? :p The Galaxy S pwns the HD2 so hard when it comes to media playback that it's not even funny. Plus the sound quality of the HD2 is horrible.
Stay away from WM6.5 unless you want to board a sinking ship.

Since TCPMP was developed, which was long before HD2 was announced. Android has a similar media player but it requires just a 1GHz (or better) processor. TCPMP works on my 528MHz MSM 7201A Diamond1.

This is true, though. But atleast it supports native apps + does not force any distribution channel.

^^ +1 on the TCPMP.

I've never had any problems on playing any/all of the video formats.

As far as the sinking ship goes.. 6.5 may be a sinking ship... but this sinking ship currently has the more dedicated developers i've come across lately. And I come from the android community (g1, mytouch, n1).

I love the hd2 because of numerous reasons many of us have stated.. I dont need the 300,000+/- apps apple offers...google's google maps w/turn by turn? i've got bing with turn by turn lol.. and honestly i surprised myself when bing came out with this because it REPLACED google maps on my phone!

I Agree with cwwjr1681

Notice how all of a sudden every cell phone company is coming out with a 4.3" phone with the obvious exception of Apple. I don't know why everyone is so down on Windows Mobile 6.5, Sense UI fixes much of what was wrong with it. After seeing how rediculous the data pricing is for the Evo, I am very happy with my choice. HTC HD2 rocks!
