Custom Ringtones are probably a little harder because it'd require updates to the Zune software to support creation and syncing of them. Assuming they do it like Apple does it with iTunes.

That would be one approach... the wrong one.
Another is, select a file from the phone and set it as the ringtone. That requires another update first, to allow storage and transfer of user-accessable files.
Lack of this is the key omission that is causing a number of other problems.

The sacrifice made by early adopters

Hi all

I think we have to accept, as early adopters of WP7, that not all of the development features may officially be available to owners of the first round of hardware. Undoubtedly M$ are working as hard as they can to improve the platform and to get more features on our devices but we can't ultimately complain if we're unhappy with they way our phones work, if they were like that when we bought them.

I am hopeful about all sorts of features, e.g. turn-by-turn navigation, Copy and Paste, Flash and other browser support, file browser, better applicatons, full skydrive support, twitter integration and better facebook integeration... I could go on. I have no doubt that all or nearly all of these features will show up on Windows Phone devices at some point, but when is another matter. M$ may also surprise us with some great features that none of us are expecting.

I am happy with my phone (HTC 7 Mozart), even thought it doesn't do everything I want it to, but the reality is that it can only get better and the best is yet to come.

Cheers

Hopefully there will be flash not only silverlight. Unfortunately there will be no flash on WP7 or does someone know more?
Adobe has said they hope for a Summer release of Flash 10.1 for WP7. This is totally up to both Adobe and MS, though, to work together, and will require an update to enable browser plug ins (if not already supported) etc.

You'll be waiting a very long time for what you want while others run around with their iPhones and Androids and WebOSs and Nokias etc doing the things you want and can only watch them do it. Maybe they will allow you to borrow their fully featured phones in a pinch to get you by temporarily whenever needed.
please sell your phone and hang out in other forums. It's obvious that you did not research buying this phone and the "newness" has worn off. If you are using the hd2 instead, that is your choice, but why come here and bad mouth the OS every chance you get?
More than likely, you'll keep the phone, then when the mango update hits and we have flash support/ silverlight and html5, you'll be back here singing the praises saying I knew they'd get it all along.....
welcome to my ignore list.

This is a question out of general curiousity and hopefully does not start anything further:

MartyLK, why does your sig have HTC HD7 as future Android phone? Why not just get an HTC Desire HD? If the answer is because T-Mobile USA does not carry the Desire HD then that shuts me up. Otherwise, the Desire HD hardware is better than the HD7 plus it was actually meant to run Android.
or why not the new lg with the tegra 2 processor? I think t-mobile is supposed to get it in march or april.

I haven't watched the CES presentation, but did they even mention anything about custom ringtones being in the next update?
They have said all along (from what I have read), it's not so much needing to release an update, but to allow 3rd party apps to change them. So once they do that, there will be 100 apps on the marketplace for this.

That would be one approach... the wrong one.

MS doesn't want you in the file system. I doubt this is changeing.

Hello,
I have an HD2 running android/nand. It runs very smoothly. The back button is broken and I would be willing to us my warrenty replacement and trade for your HD7. This way you trade a used HD7 for a new or refurbished HD2 that you can put whatever android rom you like on there. Please let me know. I really prefer the WP7 over android.

Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

Check out this video preview, apps load definitely faster:
Don't expect better performance for all apps! Microsoft changed the way things are loaded in memory. The best performance gains you are going to get are with apps that load many resources into memory. Typically these will be games.

The hardware is basically the same as the HD2, with minor changes. My HD2 is running DesireHD and doing so beautifully. I would actually prefer my Hd2 running DesireHD than an actual DesireHD because it works so well and I can switch out to another ROM whenever I desire. The HD7 will be gravy...or a cherry on top...with Android because of the much beloved soft keys. The button arrangement of the HD7 is also ideal for Android, compared to phones like the Xperia, Evo and others.

As it is right now, after studying the button configuration of the HD7 for Android, I am quite thrilled and eagerly await Android for the HD7. So much so, if MS were to completely fill up the WP7 with all of the missing features before Android appears, I would be torn about it because I am very much desiring the Android experience on this hardware.

to be honest, as of right now after reading a lot of your recent posts i really hope this comes true. as disappointed as i am that we don't get wiz-bang features straight out of the gate or with the first update, i understand the time required as well. being a software developer, i appreciate the time required to advance feature sets, especially within an OS. i personally would of thought they would have broken everything into individual apps so they can all be updated on their own, but either way, i'm not going to continually ***** and complain in every thread possible just because my disappointment wasn't met with the first update. get over it. yes android has features, go with it and stop annoying the rest of us.

i'm sure the mods will delete this post and all the ones you've posted because so much of everything you've said (and all those that have responded) are way off EVERY OP message.

The mods have done a great job closing threads that have been hijacked by a few unhappy people who sought solice in one thread, hijacked it, went to another, hijacked that, and then onto another. They are like little children crying to Dad and when Dad doesn't sooth them, going to Mom. You would think that after finding no support in any thread, they would get the hint, but that's not the case. I am beginning to think that their objective is to actually close down any WP7 thread that shows any support for WP7.

But that does not answer the question at all. Why would anyone choose to make an HD7 into an android phone over owning a Desire HD?

Desire HD has much better specs: SD card slot, more RAM, 8MP camera, newer snapdragon cpu. Is the button placement on the HD7 more ideal for Android than the DesireHD? No.

I must agree. It's totally idiotic to buy WP7 device to port Android into it, instead
Of buying a proper Android device with all the support.

Or maybe if somebody's not happy with WP7, he should buy Desire HD and port WP7 to it.

Not idiotic at all. It accomplishes several things all at once. Instead of hacking the HD7 to put the refused features I need, which is a purely temporary solution, one can put a leading OS on there and start buying the leading OS's apps instead of using their WP7 device to buy WP7 apps.

This achieves the needed functionality of the device and sends a strong wake up call to MS to start working for the consumers or they will file them away in the circular file bin. If MS dares me or discounts me, I will take action. I won't just sit around and be miserable and sullen over not having the needed functionality. And using an alternative OS, MS can't do squat about it. If I stayed with WP7, I would be featureless. If I used hacks on WP7, MS could disable them or affect them. My stance is to calmly and defiantly tell MS where to shove it with an in-your-face attitude that they'd have to suck up.

I can't abide spending half a grand on a device and be cheated of its usefulness. MS will come down to our level and cater to us or we will will bolster the other leading OS maker by spending our money making them even more leading.
