You should distinguish between marketing and internal version. E.g. Windows 7 (SP1) is v6.1.7601. Mango should be marketed as 7.5, there are so many updates, it is like iOS(1) -> iOS4.
Hope microsoft takes a look at the app phone 8 and takes features from there.
I think microsoft and all phone fabricants mock us. htc didn't say anything on the official site about all these missing features. and now all of us, who bought a wp7, wait for them to throw some candys( updates with features). I have an htc hd7 from february, and there are 6 month with a phone almost useless. is that corect to wait over an year to have a full functional phone?
I paid all the money when they sold to me. and is not corect what they do
why microsoft didn't developed this OS completely before to lunch IT?

I tried to convert a 2 hour mouvie whit zune. take it more then 5 hours. are they idiots or what?( my laptop is an I5 quadcore procesor, 4Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD and 1Gb dedicated video).
so... where are the benefits of a new OS? I just have an expensive ping pong paddle( even for ping pong is not good cause is to small for that).

these is my opinion. and please don't tell me to buy an android . since I had my first computer, I used only microsoft OS. I appreciated them and their work. but with this phone OS they made a HUGE MISTAKE CAUSE THEY GAVE US A CAR WITHOUT ENGINE AND WITH DOORS LOCKED. AND THEY KEPT THE KEYS.

Not sure if you're trolling, but did you not do any research before buying the phone? Most companies don't advertise what's missing, they advertise what's present - Marketing 101. Although the current public version (NoDo) is missing quite a few features, it's far from useless. It does most things you need from a phone. Why did they launch it without Mango? Well, they need to get people and developers on board, so when Mango comes out, at least there's some established user base and apps in the market (which, btw, is the fastest growing app store).
Scratching my head as to how my phone that has worked for the last 9 months is useless......
1st September apparently according to pocket lint. Though i doubt the networks will finish there so called testing before 2020

Does anyone know if the current earlier release of mango support custom ringtones for contacts? I am very tempted to update my HD7 however only would like to if that was fully insituted in the update.

just remember the rules for custom ringtones
must be mp3/wma, less than 40 sec, less than a certain file size that I've forgotten, and the genre must be set to ringtone
I apologize in advance if I've forgotten any other rules lol

Ok I found how to assign ringtones to each contact but how do you add mentioned custom ringtones?
Sync them in Zune like normal songs. I believe the Genre has to be RINGTONE or something like that. There should be a guide if your search a bit.

It lacks:
Search for name in the number-block, just like good old 6.0 (Or nokia or Android)
Number lookup. If you punch a number without countrycode, that is stored with country-code, then the name is not showed and vice-versa
