i would be very very angry if MS went the google way and stop supporting the phones after a couple of months, but i think that they will keep supporting them for a reasonable amount of time (2-3 years). after that i would gladly replace my mozart for something better just to avoid getting bored with it, regardless of the OS version

I think they should support the devices for 3 years, as that seems to be Apple's timeline and it works well. Customers seem satisfied with that support lifecycle; and regardless of the years of legacy support that Apple offers, they continue to sell new iPhones to previous iPhone model users. Moreover, in Canada many people are on 3-year contracts, and thus do not have the opportunity to upgrade (at a reasonable cost) more frequently than that.

That being said, I initially planned to replace my Samsung Focus with the Lumia 900 when it becomes available next month, but I'm not eligible for an upgrade despite buying the Focus the day after launch. Since I'll have to wait a few more months, I'm not sure if I'll upgrade at that time. Or likely knowing more about Windows Phone 8 (and hopefully whether or not 7.x devices will be upgradable), I may wait until October/November when the third-generation devices with Windows Phone 8 come out.

One of the many reasons I drop Android. I have Nexus S and still no ICS
When I was choosing a phone I take it because of the updates and now I am feeling tricked.

I'd be happy with a two year update cycle, at least by then you are able to upgrade your phone here in the US.

Three years is, of course, more desireable.

Features I miss in Windows Phone

1. BlueTooth File Transfer
2. Different volume control for Media Player & Ringtone
3. Loud Ringtone volume
4. Mass Storage

and will Windows Apollo be available for all the existing Windows Devices ?

What I would like...

I think the ability to personalize the "Search" button to use other methods instead of the default Bing would be great. Google, MSN Search, even Wikipedia muchin the same way Internet Explorer and Firefox does it.

What I want to see is IE9 improvements, we need faster way to access tabs and open new links in the background.
Agreed. IE is great, but could be so much better! Especially the ability to go between tabs. i think there must be a simpler method for this. Perhaps a hold and swipe.

I don't know if anyone brought this up, obviously I cannot read all the posts in this thread, but I think the search button on my device shouldn't jump to Bing search, more like it should search the page you are in, as in android devices.
Sometimes I find myself in some places and I don't know how to get to what I need fast, as in example when I am in the zune player looking for a song to play! It's unbelievable that I have to look for the song like that even with the quick letters access method!
The search button functionality should change, especially when you're in an application or you're in the dialer or when you're even looking for a song!

I agree. The sad thing is that it used to be a context-sensitive search button, but in Mango they changed that because apparently the "inconsistent" functionality confused people...

Judging by the Windows 8 Consumer Preview I'd say we'll at least have this in Apollo:

- Some kind of wallpaper behind the tiles, even if they are predefined.
- More themes
- Tighter syncing with Windows Live Account
- Ability to kill apps on the multitasking screen by dragging them down.
- Shared Apps, Although his has been mentioned it's painfully obvious to see it now, open iCookbook for example and you can see how it would work on windows phone.

Microsoft should solve it, in my opinion, by differentiating short and long press of Search button. Short press could enable searching within the page, app etc and long press could take us to Bing search, this way it would be possible to find something on page and look for something that just came to our mind without much of a hassle. It is not breaking the whole Microsoft's concept of simplicity and adds important features.

I think they should add the "Edit colours" function from Paint (;)), then there would be tons of different colours to choose from. It is not impossible since WP7 phones' screens display over 16M colours.

This functionality is added with the advanced configuration app ;)

Though adding it to the base firmware would surely help!

Try to explain to girlfriends and mothers unlocking their devices, when all they want to have is new "fancy' colour. Especially when it's not always possible due to the newest firmware etc. ;)

Of course I understand what you are saying, I would think the same, but this function should be built in the OS.

Cheers :D

dont have time to read all 51 pages lol. but just wondering isn't tethering already on the phone? I could share my 3G connection on my HTC Mozart. (or do you mean tether the WiFi connection? or connecting to AdHoc networks)
