I've said it before and I'll say it again.

The only things I want out of 7.8 are a file explorer and the ability to sync whatever files I want. I'm talking about doc files if you add to them or whatnot they automatically sync when you plug in your phone. I had that setup on my wm 6.5

The obvious start screen we all know we're getting.

A notification hub or bar or whatever

Small thing I'd like to see the calender app offer the option for a clock on the live tile in wide mode.

Customization options for ring tones (already have but you know what I mean) custom sms, email, alarm alerts

and for me I would love to be able to have a lock screen with a lot more versatility. For instance an app like amazing weather could push current weather conditions with animations to the lock screen.

Would that make most of us happy? It would make me happy. With those features I would be completely happy with my phone. So let's see if MS gives it to us but I won't hold my breath.

That depends if you can install custom roms on your device! There is minimal need for custom roms on wp devices, but some HTC devices can, and first Gen samsungs. Thing is its not like android that need ripped apart in order to make it semi good ;)

Yeah unlike android no matter what you do it can never be semi good

get a good android phone with jellybean (note2, gnex, nexus 4) and you'll see why users are happy :)

Windows phones isn't growing, and if it hasn't yet probably never will

lol, oh your funny, would you care to take that wit of yours back to an android forum, its not needed or wanted here and if im honest your sounding like a broken record. If You hate WP, take every opportunity to belittle it, why bother hanging around here? I think you have a secret love interest in WP, you don't want to stand out from the rest of the sheep out there but deep down your come here to crave after WP, to listen to the rest of us normal folk get on so well with It in he hope that one day you'll be able to say im not a sheep!

;)

Joking aside, this is a WP forum, we like it, we don't ask you to like it, but please respect that we do like it, I would do the exact same if I ever felt the need to pester an android forum.

I actually do like it,like I said it is very smooth and has great social media integration...

There are just things missing that I feel need rectification. I really hope they do add more features and it picks up, it has the potential to be a great os.

I like android as well, two sides of a coin I guess...

I know most of the users from Android camp will complaint that WP don't have "Task Killer" app, they can't close the app.

I too am an android user (i also have a new ipad) and all I can say is this.

If you own any ios or droid hardware beware of ever installing latest os updates. Eg. 6.0.1 update to iPad has resulted in WiFi drops and system slowdowns. Jb update on my one x has resulted in complete system crashes, battery drain and sporadic system slowdowns.

Every time ms issue an update it improves the software. My gf has a 3 year old HTC hd7 and it is rock solid, never ever crashes, the os is smooth and that damned universal search tool is amazing. Click search and it searches CD covers, book covers, ms tags, those b&w tags, music search, lyric search, standard web etc... All under that one button. I can do all this on ios and droid but I don't because it involves several apps needing to be installed, and if I don't pay for the app it'll mean endless push notifications etc.

My next phone will be a Nokia. My iPad walks over any android device because it has better apps, and Nokia's have the best cameras and best gps (which is free), also a huge number of wp apps are the best of all platforms. I don't care if the os doesn't gain much market traction, since when did market share mean superior hardware?

I have installed the 7.8 update(version 8858) on my Nokia Lumia 900 using Navifirm and care suite and the differences are only very slight, Am not 100% sure if the update I installed is the one that will be released as some have mentioned an 8878 version,
It is an improvement where the tiles are concerned but Apps also need to be compatible to use the wide tiles etc, Bing wallpapers is an ok add on but I don't use that, I still think there could be more accent colours added too, I am hoping there will be at least one more major update for WP7, It has been rumoured of a 7.10 update but we will have to wait and see for that,
I am happier now I have the newer tiles but a bit disappointed there wasn't much more in the update :(

LOL after these two things I couldn't tke you seriously at all.....

WP8 changed nothing but the start screen really, they didn't fix notifcations, volume control, or anything for that matter.

Also, the app store is a graveyard with the worst quality I've ever seen hahah

Custom SMS,Email, 3rd Party Apps Ringtones

I am due an update soon, love my windows phone been through it all with 7 to 7.5 now waiting to see what 7.8 will look like if it ever arrives on my phone, been shopping looking for my next replacement and sadly disappointed that I am not able to change tones for messages on windows phone 8, Lumia 920 was definitely going to be my replacement but with constraints wp has on its users, what 's the point, something so simple?? why have they blocked or not put a feature to help allow us to customize our phones the way we want to???? PLEASE MICROSOFT, SORT IT OUT!! and this is meant to be a smart phone. Thank you for the custom ringtones but surely it would have not been too difficult to amend the sms tones as well. Open to suggestions, wish some one could jail break windows system, its frustrating hearing the same dam tones over and over again!!

the phone is getting the mixed responses and there are very few who are liking the device .. by going through such an imbalance ratio, how far the phone will cover?

I was commenting on the disadvantages of still using a Windows phone... I thought I was in the area about windows phones so i just commented as above... It is too bad that Microsoft has continued to drive people away from their phone operating system...

DOS hasn't been "built in" to home versions of Windows since Windows XP. Windows ME was built on DOS, but prevented direct access to it in the way previous versions allowed. Enterprise versions of Windows have been based on the NT kernel since the mid-90s.

A large amount of older software is very difficult to use on newer versions of Windows. Windows XP is as old as Windows 95 was in 2005, so it doesn't count as "modern" by any stretch - unless, of course, someone was running Windows 95 on an Athlon 64 X2 in 2005. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have severe compatibility issues with programs written for versions of Windows prior to Windows 2000, and occasionally run into issues with those designed for 2000/XP.

Windows Mobile was dropped because it was considered a failure. It was, to a large degree, an attempt to place a desktop OS on a phone. It simply didn't work well.

Windows Phone 7, though still based on Windows CE, is a completely different platform that makes use of different APIs. Windows Phone 7's relation to Windows Mobile is no closer than Windows 7's relationship to Windows NT 4.0.

Your assertion that "Windows Phone is a fail because people said so" is also flawed. Everyone may have an opinion, but there is certainly a such thing as an invalid opinion. I, for example, am a mathematician. I am not a very creative individual. I see things very logically and algorithmically. I am also colorblind and have absolutely no education, interest, or background in fine art. I can assert that a piece of art is "a fail," but in the end, my opinion is meaningless because my opinion is uninformed and invalid.

The average salesperson has absolutely no idea that there's a difference between Windows Phone and Windows Mobile, not to mention people pushing technology generally have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Around 2004, going to Best Buy would result in having an Intel Pentium 4-based PC pushed on you, completely ignoring the fact that AMD's offerings at that time were superior in every way.

    Hi there!

Inspired by this topic, i've made a new one on the Portuguese forum Zwame with lots of improvements, including more info about the updates, more included future updates and homebrew alternatives to missing features.

The website is in Portuguese, but you can use Google or Bing translator do check it out!

    Here is the link: http://forum.zwame.pt/showthread.php?t=645544

    This is only partially fixed.
Seriously I can only paste once, then it clears the clipboard

That is not fixed, not fixed at all

    /edit spelling fail

It doesn't clear the clipboard. Where you see the paste icon slide off to the left, you can slide to the right and bring it back and paste as many times as you want.
