interesting aside, not sure if its related. After installing google services and disabling ota and updates. My amazon shop app no longer works. says the device is not supported? anyone run into this?

You've run into Amazon's latest measure to assure that we don't disable OTA Updates so they can force their "new improved" firmware on us! Fear not. I have the updated apps pulled from one of the newer tablets. Look at the last link in my signature. It's a link to my Google Drive with updated apk files of the most commonly used apps. If you tried updating them from the Play Store or somewhere else, then remove those updates leaving only the native app installed. Then install the apk(s) that you need from my files over the intalled apps. That should get you going again.

I own a HD10plus with FIREOS version 7.3.2.1. The Firetools worked great and my tablet looks very clean.

Now I wanted to create a profile for my son. However, the profile management crashes on startup. Which jobs do I have to activate again? Can I deactivate them again after creating the profiles?

I have read FamilyLink does not run but Amazon Freetime can be used, do I have to activate other jobs?

Unfortunately, I have found nothing about this in the FAQs.

Good questions. I'll see if I can help you out.

Although I haven't played around much in Profile Management, I believe you need to have Device Setup enabled (Shop Amazon may also need to be active in order to sign in). I would leave them enabled after you create the other profile because you may need them to sign in to the other account, but you're free to try disabling them again if they're not needed.

I'm really not certain about Freetime, but would assume that it also needs Device Setup, possibly Shop Amazon, and if you have trouble with Freetime working you may also need to go into Manage Amazon Apps > Manual tab > Advanced > Disabled/Hidden Apps and then re-enable DPC Client. I believe DPC stands for Device Policy Control and you may need that active to grant the requested permissions or set policy for the Freetime account. This last part is a guess so don't do it unless things crash or otherwise fail. I think it gets turned off by parental controls hide.

FireTab see my network but can`t access to net.
I don`t use VPN at all.

Alright, maybe I left something out of my guide. Lets check your configuration in RethinkdNS.

Open the RethinkDNS app. tap "DNS" in the upper-right. Under "Type", make sure it is set to RethinkDNS (the third option). Tap RethinkDNS on the list for extended options. Tap either RethinkDNS Default, or RethinkDNS Plus if you wanted any blocklists in Rules. Either will work. Tap "Check for updates" in the upper-right corner. If it updates or says updates available, you've fixed it. Tap again to download the updates.

Let me know if that fixes things.

but on the upper right corner, beside WI-FI icon is a small key. It says "rehink DNS connected.
s this correct?

you didn`t manshioned after instaling rethinkDNS and activity louncher Firetab should be rebooted!! now I did that (cross my mind) and now internet work!!

oh 1 more question - is there a way to remove some icons from "desktop" , like amazon kids, kindle,amazon music etc. don`t wanna deinstall , just remove form "desktop"?

Also, when I reboot, I am in Fire launcher again, I need to enable automate everytime. Did I do something wrong?

go to "blocking OTA updates" in "blacksheep"`s signature, it will lead you to page 531 where he explains everythnig - I did that few hours ago and now works fine. just restart your Firetab at the end.

Ahh... I'll add that!

Those icons are part of the default Amazon Launcher. You can either remove some of them by following @Jumbo100's advice in this post, or running the Custom Launcher tool in Toolbox and using Custom Navbar Key. If you choose to do the latter, be sure to follow the directions EXACTLY so that Automate gets installed properly and gets all it's permissions. Otherwise, you'll have a Home key that does nothing and you'll have to launch the Launcher you chose just like an app every time.

Edit: Just added the note about rebooting. Thanks @smirnoff9969 !

Yeah I followed your guide and it was easy to follow, but I ran into the same issue where it just blocked all of my Wifi. But a reboot helped. Thanks for putting that guide together, it's invaluable!

That is completely normal. Nothing is able to change your "default launcher" because Amazon has locked that down. The Amazon Launcher will still come up on a boot/reboot. I don't know if Automate can be made to bypass that after a boot. @Datastream33's alternate Launcher Invoker[2].flo script doesn't even do it, but it prevents the Amazon Launcher from appearing after clearing all in the recents list. I'm not sure if that's the current script that Toolbox installs, but you can check by tapping recents and clearing all. If you get your launcher then it is. If you get Amazon's launcher then it isn't. If it isn't and you want that, I'll find Datastream33's post about it and you can import it into Automate.

Edit: Looking at the release notes on Toolbox v.30.0, it seems that the Launcher Invoker[2].flo has been added! I'd also forgotten that Datastream33 had added a DNS Settings launcher to the Networking tab of Modify System Settings, making it easier to launch that activity without using Activity Launcher. (I'll still keep Activity Launcher because it allows access to other hidden settings that Amazon so thoughtfully removed from normal users.) ;-b Amazon!

Just went through the install on a new HD10.......Bingo!
However......the "x".....used to close open tabs isn't there
......so can't close a tab once opened!!

Any thoughts on what I may have done wrong please??

ALSO........must I now switch developer mode off.....????

Do you mean the square at the bottom of your tablet's screen? What tabs are you talking about? Your browser on your tablet or computer? I can't figure out what you are talking about.

If you explain a little further, I'll try to help you.

Developer mode can be switched off, but it isn't necessary. If you do switch it back off and want to change anything with Toolbox, you'll have to switch it back on in order to make further changes. In short, I wouldn't bother unless you have a specific need to shut it back off.

Hey there friends, I have a Fire HD 10 that I bought on July 19th 2021 that I'm attempting to convert using the fire toolbox v30. I just reset the table to the factory defaults however I'm running into what looks like a downloading error while trying to install google play services.

Does anyone happen to have any ideas?

I'm referring 100% to the Fire HD10 tablet.
When the square icon (bottom centre right) is selected.....I get a view of recently viewed pages. The Nexus7 (which I had been using) shows these pages with an X....allowing each to be separately closed.
The Fire HD10 allows the pages to be viewed....but not closed...as there isn't an X

....I think (always dangerous ) that I'm viewing the 'carousel'....and have just discovered that items are removed by selecting a 'remove from carousel' option!!
Haven't been able to try this yet....but hopefully that will provide the answer to my question!!?

I'll be leaving development mode on...thanks.
....and will also look at your section on 'Blocking OTA Updates' too.

I ran into the same issue. Turns out temporarily disabling Pi-hole (https://pi-hole.net/) solved it and allowed me to download the Play Services from within Fire Toolbox. If you are running some kind of ad-blocking service on your network, this might be the reason ...

First off, kudos to Datastream33 for a great tool and everyone else for all the support they provide. It's fantastic to see such a great community coming together to help each other out!

I've used toolbox v30 on an HD8 (10th gen) that is on 7.3.2.6. I used the 'fallback' method in the toolbox to disable OTA. What I discovered is it prevents the Disney+ app from downloading videos - I think because it believes wifi to be disabled. If I re-enabled OTA, it starts to download again.

I'm assuming it's a matter of using Blacksheep's RethinkDNS method instead but wanted to see what you think before going that route.

Ah, you're talking about the "Recents" menu. It's easy to close an app there. Depending on your firmware version, you just swipe an app left or right to close on older fiirmware, and up on newer firmware. You can also choose "Clear all" at the top on older F/W, or the left-hand end of the apps on newer F/W.

Yeah. The newest method of blocking OTA updates tells the tablet that it's on a metered network so that it won't download anything that's MB intensive (which OTA updates and movies are). That works and can be easily implemented, but it does have some drawbacks as you've seen.

The RethinkDNS solution seems to be working, is not that difficult, and it's only drawback is that you can't run a VPN with it running because it uses the VPN interface that Android provides. If you do need to run a real VPN, you'll have to use the method in Toolbox, or put an Amazon blocklist in your router, or run a Pi-Hole with the Amazon Servers Pi-Holed. Those last 2 methods mean that you are only protected when you are on your home network, so be aware.
