Is it normal for the "Circle" home button to remain white and be "invisible" in some apps? I think I was able to get everything converted correctly to Android but that's the one bug I am noticing.
I got NOVA working again with automate so that's great ! I also followed your tutorial to block OTA updates. The tablet is actually ok now. Slight delay with home key press but its fine. Cheers !

Bumping this again. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Thanks in advance.I have an issue with the ESPN app on my Amazon Fire HD tablet 2021 version where authentication fails when I select my TV provider.
I had a similar issue with my older Amazon Fire HD tablet (also rooted) and it would seemingly resolve itself after a while.
When I reached out to ESPN about the issue, I received this response:
First, how do I get Silk browser installed on the tablet? I opened the Toolbox app but don't see Silk Browser as an option to install.
Second, any tips on how to get the ESPN app working if the tablet is not supposed to be updated?

Hi, just got a 2022 Fire HD 8+ from Black Friday. I see that it’s 12th gen and now just reading about some issues with this. I’ve managed to get the Play Store and Youtube working, but YouTube TV keeps saying I don’t have Play Services installed when it’s showing that it is. Any solution to this yet? If not, is there an alternative to this app? It’s one of the main apps I use regularly. Thank you!
The error says "Authentication Failed" after selecting DirecTV as my TV provider and trying to stream anything in the app.The Silk Browser is available in the Shop Amazon app. It's free.
What error is the ESPN app giving you? I have some updated apps in the 3rd link in my signature. If you need another updated app, I'll pull it from my 7.3.2.3 tablet and put it with the other apps I've pulled.
Have you tried the Alternate YouTube replacement apps included with Toolbox? I find SmartTube works nicely, and so does YouTube Vanced, although it's now abandonware.
The ESPN app is available at the Amazon Appstore. I just looked and I don't even have that app. Just launch the Amazon Appstore and do a search for "ESPN". The Silk Browser shows as being incompatible with Fire tablets when I go to the Amazon Appstore on my computer. It's for FireTV. That's why it doesn't show up in the tablet's Appstore. The error says "Authentication Failed" after selecting DirecTV as my TV provider and trying to stream anything in the app.
For some reason Silk Browser is not showing up for me in the Amazon Appstore.
Can you please put the updated ESPN app up?
The ESPN app I have is already from the Amazon appstore. I was referring to the Silk browser not showing up for me when I do a search in the Amazon appstore. The ESPN app is available at the Amazon Appstore. I did add Amazon System Webview to my Google Drive folder in case they updated that. Amazon Webview could affect playback of web video. Try updating that.
I just edited my reply while you were posting! Silk Browser is for FireTV, not Fire Tablets. The ESPN app I have is already from the Amazon appstore. I was referring to the Silk browser not showing up for me when I do a search in the Amazon appstore.
Do you have instructions for downloading apks onto the tablets? I will try downloading Amazon Webview.
You just need t make sure the tablet isn't connected to the internet, that USB debugging is on. Plugging it into your computer is perfectly safe. If you've disabled the OTA then it'll say in the options. There should be two toggles, and they should be off. If not, turn them off.Hi, I've just pulled out my Fire Tablet 10 Plus, Gen. 11 to use/update after it has been sitting dormant since the beginning of the year. Back then, I had used Firebox tool to clean up and get apps the way I wanted. As I recall I turned off OTA updating at that time (though not quite sure where to find this toggle at the moment), and current firmware looks to be 7.3.2.1.
I have downloaded the latest Toolbox to computer, but have not actually plugged in the tablet yet as I'm a little afraid to do anything that would mess things up. Would someone here be willing to refresh my memory/suggest on where I should start/what I should be careful of in bringing this thing up to speed?
As I recall, I had to turn off Play Store app auto updates for Amazon apps, but can update all others there, yes? What about updates to Amazon apps from the Amazon store? Do I enable OTA in order to update system and Amazon apps and do I not want to do that? If I don't go to latest operating system update, will my tablet be at risk (security-wise). Thanks for any help in getting me going again!
I followed your instructions but keep getting an "App not installed" message when I try to install Amazon System WebView.I just edited my reply while you were posting! Silk Browser is for FireTV, not Fire Tablets.
For dowloading .apk files, just point whatever browser you like to the link in my signature, download the .apk file to someplace convenient, and then open a file browser and go to the file and tap it to install.
That's strange. I pulled that from my HD8 (2020) with F/W v7.3.2.3 . I just downloaded the shared file from the link, to my HD10 (2019) with F/W v7.3.1.2. I tapped it and it installed without issue. Maybe your tablet needs a reboot? Try a reboot and try installing again. There shouldn't be a problem.I followed your instructions but keep getting an "App not installed" message when I try to install Amazon System WebView.
Okay, thanks much! I've gone to Developer Options and see the button ticked off on Automatic System Updates. I hope that this the only (one) button as that is the only one I see that seems to pertain to System Updates. USB Debugging is also ticked on. Should I be too concerned about using the old firmware in terms of security? You just need t make sure the tablet isn't connected to the internet, that USB debugging is on. Plugging it into your computer is perfectly safe. If you've disabled the OTA then it'll say in the options. There should be two toggles, and they should be off. If not, turn them off.
The point is, you don't want to update to the newest Fire firmware.
I've rebooted several times now and still get the same error message. That's a great idea. They're great, for what they are. They're not a good gaming platform or much good for video editing. If you want something to watch movies or play music, or control your home automation, they're the best bang for the buck!
If you'd like to prevent updating, you can add my blocklist to your router's blacklist. That's only good if you only connect to your own network. If you want something more portable that can work anywhere you connect, you can use RethinkDNS to block the updating apps on your tablet.
There's an installation guide to RethinkDNS in my signature, along with my blocklist that you can add to your router.![]()
thank you so much for this! This software has breathed new life in to what would normally have been unusable outdated tech... i have always been a fan of the Kindle tablets, seeing the potential in a small inexpensive tablet has the ability to be so much more... with so many companies locking up their software and hardware, and going the way "Proprietary". it makes it hard for budget creatives to keep up... with your software, you have made it possible for me to stay afloat, without breaking the bank. Thanks again! We value your existence!Hey, I know I'm a little tardy to the party... but I suppose it's better late than never... right?
I'm happy to announce that today marks the 4TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the project!
2019, the year of the Toolbox's release... It seems like such a long time ago, doesn't it? (feels like 4 years to be exact).
...............................
TaYeah, the list is a file an attached file at the end of the (now outdated) post about how to deal with v7.3.2.2 or greater. Here's a link to save you the trouble of reading that whole post.![]()
Ongoing incompatibility issues with YouTube TV and FireOS 8 on 12th Gen (2022) Fire tablets. No reported solution yet.If this has been addressed, I apologize, but I did a cursory search with no results. I've noticed that two of my devices - Fire HD 8 Plus 12th gen (8.3.1.3) and a Fire 7 12th gen (8.3.1.4) - both wil not run Youtube TV. Youtube is fine but the Youtube TV fails with the dreaded "Youtube TV won't run without Google Play services, which are missing from your device."
Sorted. Thank you for your helpYou would want to select Disable Amazon Apps. Then you will get a selection of what can be disabled. Select any that you don't use, but always look in the lower-right of the tool to see if it might be needed for something else to work. Then don't disable it. You can always re-enable an app later, or disable further apps later. Just don't be overzealous.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FIREOS 7.3.2.2+ AND THE TOOLBOX (PLEASE READ)
If your tablet is running FireOS 7.3.2.2 or above please note that some functions of the Toolbox may not work due to new restrictions in the new firmware. The following tools either do not work or have limited functionality:
• OTA Updates - OTAs can no longer be disabled.
• Manage Amazon Apps - Some system apps can no longer be disabled.
We're looking into workarounds to the issues detailed above. Please keep an eye on the forum for further development.

How can I run the Toolbox on Linux? The Toolbox is currently being developed for Linux systems in the Python programming language. If you'd like to see the progress of the port, you can do so at this link. Please be patient with me as the Linux port is being developed in my spare time and may take some time to complete. However, as the port progresses some builds will be released to those who'd like to help test alpha builds. More information on this later down the line. However, at the moment, the best way to run the Toolbox on Linux is to use VMWare and emulate Windows.
My Home Button isn't working after using the Custom Launcher Tool?Due to the way the process works, it alters your navigation bar's home key to send a key event that can be picked up by Automate. Once Automate reads this event, it launches your custom launcher automatically. However, if the flow in Automate isn't running, the navbar key will not work, and nothing will happen when it's tapped. To fix this, either open Automate and start the "Launcher Invoker" flow again, or execute the Custom Launcher tool in the Toolbox, click the ":" icon (upper-right) to show the Tool Options panel, and click the "Restore Navigation Bar" button to restore the stock layout.
Google Family Link won't work on my tablet?Unfortuently, no matter how hard we try, we still haven't been able to get Family Link to work correctly on the tablets. The Family Link app fails to install, and the Child account refuses to login. No matter what we tried, we couldn't get a Child account to work on the tablets. We believe this has to do with missing dependecies, and the tablets not being certified through Google's Play Protect platform. We're still activly looking into getting the issue resolved. Until then, it's recommended that you use an alternative such as Amazon's FreeTime, Eyezy, or another third-party family managing software.
How can I remove a Google Account from my tablet?Because of the missing accounts section in the Settings app it will be a little more difficult to remove Google Accounts directly from the tablet. The easiest way that I've found is to visit this page: https://myaccount.google.com/security, sign-in to your Google Account, scroll down to "Your Devices" and click the "Manage devices" button. From the list of devices find your tablet and in the upper right-corner click the 3-dot icon and from the list select "Sign out".
Can the Toolbox be used to root my tablet?Primarly, rooting a Fire Tablet requires the user to open the back of the device and short out a certain point on the motherboard. The Toolbox has been designed for folks who'd rather not bark down this alley. It uses the power of ADB to make changes, and is meant to be an alternative to rooting. In summery, the Toolbox isn't designed to root.
The Toolbox is being marked as a virus? This is likely because the Toolbox (and it's installer) aren't signed with a software license. This freaks Windows out because it sees that there is no publisher, and as a result it displays a warning (smartscreen). In addition, some anti-viruses might also flag the Toolbox as a virus simply because the build is relatively new and there is no record of it in the anti-viruses database, resulting in a false positve. As always, I take your security and privacy VERY seriously! If you do not feel safe with installing the Toolbox due to virus concerns, I respect and support your decision. It is always up to the user and their judgment!
