Is it normal for the "Circle" home button to remain white and be "invisible" in some apps? I think I was able to get everything converted correctly to Android but that's the one bug I am noticing.
I got NOVA working again with automate so that's great ! I also followed your tutorial to block OTA updates. The tablet is actually ok now. Slight delay with home key press but its fine. Cheers !

Bumping this again. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Thanks in advance.I have an issue with the ESPN app on my Amazon Fire HD tablet 2021 version where authentication fails when I select my TV provider.
I had a similar issue with my older Amazon Fire HD tablet (also rooted) and it would seemingly resolve itself after a while.
When I reached out to ESPN about the issue, I received this response:
First, how do I get Silk browser installed on the tablet? I opened the Toolbox app but don't see Silk Browser as an option to install.
Second, any tips on how to get the ESPN app working if the tablet is not supposed to be updated?

Hi, just got a 2022 Fire HD 8+ from Black Friday. I see that it’s 12th gen and now just reading about some issues with this. I’ve managed to get the Play Store and Youtube working, but YouTube TV keeps saying I don’t have Play Services installed when it’s showing that it is. Any solution to this yet? If not, is there an alternative to this app? It’s one of the main apps I use regularly. Thank you!
The error says "Authentication Failed" after selecting DirecTV as my TV provider and trying to stream anything in the app.The Silk Browser is available in the Shop Amazon app. It's free.
What error is the ESPN app giving you? I have some updated apps in the 3rd link in my signature. If you need another updated app, I'll pull it from my 7.3.2.3 tablet and put it with the other apps I've pulled.
Have you tried the Alternate YouTube replacement apps included with Toolbox? I find SmartTube works nicely, and so does YouTube Vanced, although it's now abandonware.
The ESPN app is available at the Amazon Appstore. I just looked and I don't even have that app. Just launch the Amazon Appstore and do a search for "ESPN". The Silk Browser shows as being incompatible with Fire tablets when I go to the Amazon Appstore on my computer. It's for FireTV. That's why it doesn't show up in the tablet's Appstore. The error says "Authentication Failed" after selecting DirecTV as my TV provider and trying to stream anything in the app.
For some reason Silk Browser is not showing up for me in the Amazon Appstore.
Can you please put the updated ESPN app up?
The ESPN app I have is already from the Amazon appstore. I was referring to the Silk browser not showing up for me when I do a search in the Amazon appstore. The ESPN app is available at the Amazon Appstore. I did add Amazon System Webview to my Google Drive folder in case they updated that. Amazon Webview could affect playback of web video. Try updating that.

Do you have instructions for downloading apks onto the tablets? I will try downloading Amazon Webview.
You just need t make sure the tablet isn't connected to the internet, that USB debugging is on. Plugging it into your computer is perfectly safe. If you've disabled the OTA then it'll say in the options. There should be two toggles, and they should be off. If not, turn them off.Hi, I've just pulled out my Fire Tablet 10 Plus, Gen. 11 to use/update after it has been sitting dormant since the beginning of the year. Back then, I had used Firebox tool to clean up and get apps the way I wanted. As I recall I turned off OTA updating at that time (though not quite sure where to find this toggle at the moment), and current firmware looks to be 7.3.2.1.
I have downloaded the latest Toolbox to computer, but have not actually plugged in the tablet yet as I'm a little afraid to do anything that would mess things up. Would someone here be willing to refresh my memory/suggest on where I should start/what I should be careful of in bringing this thing up to speed?
As I recall, I had to turn off Play Store app auto updates for Amazon apps, but can update all others there, yes? What about updates to Amazon apps from the Amazon store? Do I enable OTA in order to update system and Amazon apps and do I not want to do that? If I don't go to latest operating system update, will my tablet be at risk (security-wise). Thanks for any help in getting me going again!
I followed your instructions but keep getting an "App not installed" message when I try to install Amazon System WebView.I just edited my reply while you were posting! Silk Browser is for FireTV, not Fire Tablets.
For dowloading .apk files, just point whatever browser you like to the link in my signature, download the .apk file to someplace convenient, and then open a file browser and go to the file and tap it to install.
That's strange. I pulled that from my HD8 (2020) with F/W v7.3.2.3 . I just downloaded the shared file from the link, to my HD10 (2019) with F/W v7.3.1.2. I tapped it and it installed without issue. Maybe your tablet needs a reboot? Try a reboot and try installing again. There shouldn't be a problem.I followed your instructions but keep getting an "App not installed" message when I try to install Amazon System WebView.
Okay, thanks much! I've gone to Developer Options and see the button ticked off on Automatic System Updates. I hope that this the only (one) button as that is the only one I see that seems to pertain to System Updates. USB Debugging is also ticked on. Should I be too concerned about using the old firmware in terms of security? You just need t make sure the tablet isn't connected to the internet, that USB debugging is on. The point is, you don't want to update to the newest Fire firmware.
I've rebooted several times now and still get the same error message. That's strange. I pulled that from my HD8 (2020) with F/W v7.3.2.3 . I'll add that you may or may not like the result you get with rooting.Alright, a Fire 7 bought in 2021 is probably an HD 7 (2019). If this is the case, then I had a search around XDA and found you this thread. It is a guide to rooting the HD 7 (2019) and installing Lineage OS. If you don't want to actually root and replace, then Toolbox is much simpler but will still require a Windows environment to run.
Toolbox does not "root" your device, so if you want root you'll be better off starting in the link I gave. Toolbox only issues non-root ADB commands to your tablet to accomplish what it does.
I'm talking to myself again...I bought 2 4K Firesticks from Woot early Saturday morning (in bed on my "Open Box" but new Samsung Verizon LTE tablet that I grabbed on eBay). The one that came Monday was used in like new condition and had an old firmware but not so old that I could hijack the Home button. Otherwise fine and I have the update servers blocked on my router.
The one that came yesterday was new in the box and a bit older than Monday's Firestick. I was able to hijack the Home button and block further updates with a debloating tool.
$40 for both! And the newer Firesticks will likely have less and less functionality.
I'd just make sure my tablet was awake with screen on while connecting to toolbox. It should go ahead and continue then. How to Disable Lockscreen on my Fire HD 10 Gen 11 with 7.3.2.6
Fire Toolbox 30.3 is stuck at
"checking to see if the device is locked with a pin or password"
any advise?
That depends on the version and year of Fire tablet you have. For the recent tablets, we don't have a bootloader unlock exploit so there is no "converting to Android" by flashing a vanilla AOSP Android image. Toolbox does the next best thing, though, by facilitating a bunch of ADB commands to disable the Amazon bloat and replace the launcher.
At the moment, the only way to do it on Linux is by running a Windows VM under Virtualbox. There was talk of making it work somehow under WINE by starting up ADB in Linux first, but I haven't tried that personally.
There is a project underway by @Datastream33 to make a Linux port of Toolbox. It's pretty far along and I've tested some of the tools included in the port. Datastream hasn't remarked about it lately so I don't know how it's going. In the meantime, you could load a VM and a Windows 7 image from M$ so you can run Toolbox. That's how I run mine.![]()
I would guess it's different servers. I have a blocklist in my signature that includes 6 addresses used in the US. They probably have other servers for other countries. You could use RethinkDNS to block the update app itself so that the app is blocked, regardless of the server.I'm talking to myself again...
I wanted to post what I think it bad news for those trying to block updates by blocking router access to the Amazon update servers. I bought 2 Firesticks as mentioned above. The newer one was used in great condition. It had a slightly newer firmware that than the older of the two. The one with the older firmware took 3 different commands used to block updates. The newer only allowed one of the three commands to run. I assumed I could stop he newer one from updating by blocking the Amazon update servers. I blocked six or so that were listed online in my Orbi router. Tonight when I started to use the Firestick that was in question it had updated to the latest firmware (6.2.9.4).
When I first booted it and thought I had stopped the updates it was 6.2.8.9 if my memory is correct.
So I am wondering if Amazon started to use another server or if maybe the servers used for the Firestick are different than those used for tablets.
I can see that. Is there no 3rd-party website keeping any of the desired Fire OS versions available? Would Amazon shut that down?Godd tactical plan ... you need/want FireOS 8.3.1.3 but ONLY f/w 8.3.1.3.
Keep a copy of the the f/w download for "safekeeping" , if you ever need to do a future device factory reset ... Amazon support only makes the current update available and doesn't archive previous versions.
If you've been away from the FTB community for a while you've missed a lot of excitement/angst/despair.I have Fire 8 (10th gen, 2020), and used (I think) v26 or so for the tool. I have system updates disabled so I can't see what version Fire OS I'm on but I haven't updated in more than a year at least.
So is it worth updating to newer Fire OS for the tablet? Any significant updates? Does v30 of the tool do anything more/less that it would be worth running it and updating, or even starting again? I only use this Fire for basic use, media use.
I still find the Fire tablets slow, this one was cheap it was worth it, is the 2022 version any faster in general use? Hate the pause and sluggish behaviour of it
thanks
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FIREOS 7.3.2.2+ AND THE TOOLBOX (PLEASE READ)
If your tablet is running FireOS 7.3.2.2 or above please note that some functions of the Toolbox may not work due to new restrictions in the new firmware. The following tools either do not work or have limited functionality:
• OTA Updates - OTAs can no longer be disabled.
• Manage Amazon Apps - Some system apps can no longer be disabled.
We're looking into workarounds to the issues detailed above. Please keep an eye on the forum for further development.

How can I run the Toolbox on Linux? The Toolbox is currently being developed for Linux systems in the Python programming language. If you'd like to see the progress of the port, you can do so at this link. Please be patient with me as the Linux port is being developed in my spare time and may take some time to complete. However, as the port progresses some builds will be released to those who'd like to help test alpha builds. More information on this later down the line. However, at the moment, the best way to run the Toolbox on Linux is to use VMWare and emulate Windows.
My Home Button isn't working after using the Custom Launcher Tool?Due to the way the process works, it alters your navigation bar's home key to send a key event that can be picked up by Automate. Once Automate reads this event, it launches your custom launcher automatically. However, if the flow in Automate isn't running, the navbar key will not work, and nothing will happen when it's tapped. To fix this, either open Automate and start the "Launcher Invoker" flow again, or execute the Custom Launcher tool in the Toolbox, click the ":" icon (upper-right) to show the Tool Options panel, and click the "Restore Navigation Bar" button to restore the stock layout.
Google Family Link won't work on my tablet?Unfortuently, no matter how hard we try, we still haven't been able to get Family Link to work correctly on the tablets. The Family Link app fails to install, and the Child account refuses to login. No matter what we tried, we couldn't get a Child account to work on the tablets. We believe this has to do with missing dependecies, and the tablets not being certified through Google's Play Protect platform. We're still activly looking into getting the issue resolved. Until then, it's recommended that you use an alternative such as Amazon's FreeTime, Eyezy, or another third-party family managing software.
How can I remove a Google Account from my tablet?Because of the missing accounts section in the Settings app it will be a little more difficult to remove Google Accounts directly from the tablet. The easiest way that I've found is to visit this page: https://myaccount.google.com/security, sign-in to your Google Account, scroll down to "Your Devices" and click the "Manage devices" button. From the list of devices find your tablet and in the upper right-corner click the 3-dot icon and from the list select "Sign out".
Can the Toolbox be used to root my tablet?Primarly, rooting a Fire Tablet requires the user to open the back of the device and short out a certain point on the motherboard. The Toolbox has been designed for folks who'd rather not bark down this alley. It uses the power of ADB to make changes, and is meant to be an alternative to rooting. In summery, the Toolbox isn't designed to root.
The Toolbox is being marked as a virus? This is likely because the Toolbox (and it's installer) aren't signed with a software license. This freaks Windows out because it sees that there is no publisher, and as a result it displays a warning (smartscreen). In addition, some anti-viruses might also flag the Toolbox as a virus simply because the build is relatively new and there is no record of it in the anti-viruses database, resulting in a false positve. As always, I take your security and privacy VERY seriously! If you do not feel safe with installing the Toolbox due to virus concerns, I respect and support your decision. It is always up to the user and their judgment!
