Okay, thanks much! I've gone to Developer Options and see the button ticked off on Automatic System Updates. I hope that this the only (one) button as that is the only one I see that seems to pertain to System Updates. USB Debugging is also ticked on. Should I be too concerned about using the old firmware in terms of security?

Am I correct in assuming I can download and update freely from the Amazon App Store? I recall that I need to turn off Enable Auto Updates for any Amazon app that shows up under my apps in Google Play. If apps are available on Amazon and Google Play, should I generally go with the Amazon option? In other words is Google Play primarily for the apps not available in the AppStore?

I would not be too concerned with old firmware security unless there are reports of critical security risks.

I don't know about updating Amazon apps, so I can't speak that. But I imagine they should work fine even on outdated OS firmware. One day they may stop working but until that day comes, I am not going to worry about it.

Hi, just got a 2022 Fire HD 8+ from Black Friday. I see that it’s 12th gen and now just reading about some issues with this. I’ve managed to get the Play Store and Youtube working, but YouTube TV keeps saying I don’t have Play Services installed when it’s showing that it is. Any solution to this yet? If not, is there an alternative to this app? It’s one of the main apps I use regularly. Thank you!

Update to the latest firmware. It worked for me to solve all issues.

I've rebooted several times now and still get the same error message.

Hmm... I don't know. Hopefully someone else reads this and can help. I don't even know if that's the solution to streaming video problems. It was just a guess because Webview is the browser-like architecture underlying most apps that display web content.

With DNS66 available, there's no point to use Blokada?

Specifically, Blokada 5 because Blokada 6 is paid-only. I have a subscription with Windscribe VPN which blocks ads (except from the YouTube app so I use Vanced) and it's fantastic.

It would be nice to just figure out what commands I can run on Linux and drop them in a script without having to go score a copy of Windows and set up a whole VM. M$ free since 2010.

hey there, thanks for all the work put into this! I got two fire tabs on black friday, but only managed to get the toolbox to work with one.
The one it worked with was the fire HD 10 (11th gen, fire os 7.3.2.6), the one it didn´t work with was a fire 8 plus 12th gen, running fire os 8.3.1

I didn´t check out correctly when purchasing, because i only found this page after the purchase.
First time I didn´t disconnect wifi either.
After the first failed attempt, I did a factory reset and didn´t pick the correct wifi, so it wouldn´t connect to the wifi.
Installed the google stuff, removed lockscreen ads and screen lock and nothing works.
I played around some more, also installed aurora play store, but that doesn´t helo much, if google play services aren´t running properly, which seems to be the case.

I´m going to do another round of factory reset, but I´d just like to know wether its even possible with the fire 8 12th gen and the current os...

Some of the errors I get:

-can´t sign in with google
-google apps start and shut down immediately
-error in other apps about google play services missing
-nova launcher doesn´t come back when using home button.

Hi, and welcome to XDA!

I'm sorry but this project is not open source so the source code is kept private. The good news is there is work going on to produce a Linux version of the app. It's not coming along as fast as some would like but there is progress. You can check on it's status at this link. I wish I had broken free from M$ that early, but I was still playing around running Linux as a VM. With the writing on the wall about Windows 7 support, I bought a new SSD and installed Linux dual-boot and now almost exclusively use Linux. I'll get those last 2 or 3 apps to run in WINE eventually.

The biggest problem you're seeing is that Automate didn't get set up completely when it was installed. Automate is needed to make the replacement home key work and to do a couple other things. If you have it installed, open it and start the Launcher Invoker flow again. Make sure that all the checkboxes are marked at the bottom so it has full permissions.

The problems with Google Services are known on the 12th gen tablets and I believe can be alleviated by granting all requested permissions in Google Play Store. Somewhere in the last 5 pages of this thread it's been described.

Hi everyone first i would like to say a huge thank you to Datastream33 for this amazing tool.
I bought a Fire HD 10+ and using the tool i have the tablet running nearly perfectly apart from one small issue. I have set Nova as my launcher which works almost perfectly for what i need apart from when using full screen apps. When i swipe up to bring up the nav bar in a fullscreen app and then hit the home button nothing happens even though i can see its detecting im touching the button. If i press the switch app button that does work so i can then hit the home button to get back to the launcher. Is this just something i need to live with or is there anything i can do to fix this behavior?

Does the home button work for any/most apps? Which full-screen app does it not work on? I'm trying to figure out if you have Automate set up correctly. It's required to make the Custom Navbar Key tool work right.

The home button works for anything that is not full screen for example chrome or the playstore it works fine. An example of a app that doesn't work in full screen is CrashOnTheRun!. Everything else is working fine just the fullscreen apps dont work with the home button.

Updated my ToolBox to version 30.1 and still can't re-enable OTA updates. If I make a factory reset it would enable again?

If not, I'll try to updates the apps using @blaacksheep method.

If you have a Fire tablet on v7.3.2.1 or lower firmware, you're better off not updating. It will only bring you pain! Yes, a factory reset will undo all changes made by toolbox and return you to stock. If you have firware v.7.3.2.1 or earlier, you'll lose the ability to easily change your launcher, your ability to disable OTA Updates again, and you may have difficulty removing lockscreen ads. There's nothing to be gained by upgrading. Only things to lose.

That said, you can re-enable OTA Updates if you're sure that's what you want, by using Toolbox, going to Manage Amazon Apps > Manual tab > Advanced and allow it 30 seconds to load. Click the Disabled/Hidden Apps tab and allow that to load. Click the checkbox by Forced OTA and then Enable Selected in the upper-right. Your OTA Updates are now enabled. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The apps I've collected are from a newer tablet running newer firmware. They install right over the built-in apps. You have to uninstall any updated versions of those apps from the Play Store because they won't work. They're just updated .apk files linked in my signature.

Trying to use the toolbox with a fire hd8 plus. Toolbox says can't obtain generation info and closes.

I note this model isn't on the list of compatible devices but is there any reason why the toolbox wouldn't work on this device?

Any thoughts on this? Still can't get my hd8 plus to connect to toolbox.

Had a 10 plus that I bought at thd same time - worked perfectly.

Just notice that Reroute Homekey on the custom launcher doesn't work anymore. Something triggered it back to stock launcher when launching apps.

Oh, this is really sad...
Fortunately is an overlay still working. e.g. Automate should do the trick.

Yeah it is annoying but have got used to just hitting switch app and then the home button. Would be nice to have it working for all apps not just those that are not fullscreen but can live with it if it cant be fixed. I did go back to briefly using the fire launcher but i cant stress how much i hate it lol

Ok, after a long journey, due to my local parcel service my fire tablet from black friday deals is here and i´m ready to try it out with the toolbox. Just in case if something goes wrong i always can make a factory reset right ?
