The Goal is to let a L710 sim card compatible.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12/6

I finally received the part from china. I installed it fairly easily. I did have to cut the back cover and pat of the metal plate from the reader.

Sd card works and reads fine. I only have have a verizon LTE and a tigo sim card to try it out So I am going to try flashing different roms soon, I am on Blazer. Nothing seems to happen when the verizon sim is inserted.

you are still be able to use sprint LTE, since the sprint sim is built into the main board and not the sd/sim reader.

Any have advise on how i can check if it know a sim card is inserted?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was searching ebay for parts and I found this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SIM-SD-Card...341?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2575c1e915

It should be as easy as unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one. You would also need to get a verizon back plate. But this phone is super easy to open and change parts, minus the screen.

You will lose LTE, unless there is some way to get a sim from sprint (the Iphone 5 has one).

Does anyone know a res eon this will not work? I plan on ordering one later today.

Thanks

Have you Tried the Sim Card App in the Play Store?

There is already a discussion about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802714&page=8

No proof has been found that shows that the Sprint S3 is or is not GSM capable. However, it sounds like it is, and just needs a custom ROM to enable the gsm radio, along with installation of the sim card slot like the OP has done.

I'm surprised no progress has been made in the several months that this phone has been out?

From looking @ Qualcomm's website of the chipset thats in our phones its shows that it is indeed a world phone

The chipset of course supports gsm/wcdma, as it's also used in the at&t and t-mo s3's,as well as in the HOX and many other phones. However this doesn't mean they left in the required power amplifiers and other hardware required to transmit on the gsm frequencies. Since they are in the VZW model it is possible but not certain.

It would be great to see this project moved forward so we could learn if the bands are supported.

don't know if tis might help .. but can someone post HD pics of GSM S3 PCB and Sprint S3 PCB so that it can be physically compared around the baseband chip area to see if there are any major differences?

uhm...this is the closest thread I could find to my problem,

First post...thanks for the multiple rescues in the past...the convo has veered away from my question, but ....oh well. I know anyone on this thread could help.
Why does my LPH-710 not "see" my internal sim after a stock flash? I had to reset my Sprint Sgs3 using Odin (and the .tar below) and upon successful installation, it quickly suggested that "insert sim". WTH? If that is the stock Android system for my phone, why is it expecting an insertable sim card in the first place.

(the following is not a link) -> KIES_HOME_L710VPALEN_L710SPRALEN_618049_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5

Thats the unbrick or reset file that I found here:: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761956

How do I get it to recognize the sim card that is internal?

Thanks in advance and thank you XDA community in tardiness....Sorry....

Oh, I just saw the suggestion for the sim config app from G.Play. I think that might work. I'll let you know. It's a pain in the ars, b/c I cannot use mobile data
without it.
This is a link to a google drive public folder with a picture of the sim app that I d/led, telling me all kindsa thangs bouts my SIM Card including the fact that I don't have one present. Can someone please tell me what I need to do>?

The Goal is to let a L710 sim card compatible. (global capable)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I installed a few verizon roms. I can change the network setting, but always get an error when i search for net works.
I only have 2 sim cards to test it out so I am not sure if there are bad sims. One is verizon LTE and onther is from an overseas gsm carrier tigo.
What more can I do with out bricking my phone?

I added some screen caps.

Thanks for the update.. could you pls see if the verizon and tigo sim works in some world phone? just to make sure the sim is good..

motorhead_biker -> your link for the sprint model is probably the board without the actual sim slot.. IE the stock board. The other models all seem to use the same sim board as the quantities are the same leading me to think that the sprint version is the only one that is different.

Very cool to hear about this on the Note 2 - I may actually get a sprint one then. I personally ended up getting a Verizon GS3 for the sim support, and did a donor ESN swap to run it on Ting - which works, but doesn't seem to give me 3G data. Really want a Note 2 now for illustration work.

If you're gonna do a donor swap on the Note 2 and put a sim slot, you'd be better off with the Verizon version:
1) it already has a built in SIM slot
2) it is already unlocked for use with any GSM provider including those here in the US.

I haven't flashed a Verizon Note 2 to any Sprint MVNO, but it should be doable since I was able to do it on the Verizon GS3.

You shouldn't even need to flash different ROM's, though you will need to edit the APN's to access anything but voice service, and possibly even that (which you most likely need a custom rom to do).
