In some days I will be getting a Sprint Galaxy S3 like as a gift, the problem is the next,

In my country we use GSM for mostly everything, I saw the Photon for Sprint that if you remove the internal SIM and replace it with a full SIM Card Tray you can make it work, but with this one is simpler, you just need to buy the piece and put it on, the OP didn't give any further information about it, I'm asking because I want to try it.

Was wondering if there was any update. I know that the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was able to swap SIM PCB's successfully but didn't see if this was. Maybe the galaxy s4 SIM PCB could fit into the S3 location?

Thanks

I have the answer for you.

I'm working on something like this on both phones, the Sprint Galaxy S3 and the Sprint Galaxy Note II.

I will send the GN2 to Moca, DR to a friend of mine after I finish the swap.

PM me and we can talk about it.

I'm interested on asking you a couple of questions since you live in Santo Domingo, you'll have the scoop on this issues.

Thank you!

Suave manito!

Sorry for my english im not native english speaker

I dont know this adding sim card slot on SPH-l710 been done or not, and even if its done most of the problem i read through this forum is the phone wont turn on after adding sim card slot, if the problem still hanging there maybe my post would gave you some idea.

I bought SPH-l710 few days ago through chinese market, my chinese friends help me to get it, the phone is already modded with sim card slot and no particular problem as my friend tried it, unfortunately the phone isnt in my hand yet, ill update later if the phone is already in my hand and trying to put some local sim card
but based on the testimonial from another people who buy l710 it works well, here is the review you can use google translate to read it

and some other testimonial

i can see that the seller using GOODNESS STOCK MA4 v 1.0.0

the only problem i found from the seller is some of the buyer did not get the original acessories like headset, charger and battery but considering the price is cheap i think its ok also the seller respond is very good.

here is the pics of my l710, hope it helps

Glad to see this thread resurrected. I found the idea pretty interesting. Due to our phones modem, it is about impossible to convert it to gsm. But we might be able to get it working on wcdma thus able to be used as a world phone. Just my two cents.

Don't know if this helps or not, using Nova Launcher you can do activity shortcuts, under the phone activity there are 92 activities, including gsm/umts call forwarding, gsm/umts options ,global roaming, network operators, network settings, preferred networks, select network. In some of them you can select GSM, but... you cannot save the options/or it brings you the message that process com.android.phone has stopped working. So i suppose the ability to use GSM, is still somewhere in there, it is just blocked from doing so. There has to be a way. haven't used custom rom though, stock Sprint 4.1.2. I was thinking to replace sometime when i have the time the process com.android.phone with an international one and see what happens. ;)

Flash L710PALEN Odin tar 4.0.4 and make the phone RUIM if available from DFS after reading SPC code. Add the SIM tray. Any version of S3 SIM tray will fit in. Phone works super perfect only on PALEN. There isn't any indication of GSM SIM. A foreign CDMA SIM is intended for use by this exercise. Do not try this if your phone is 4.3 bootloader or above.

I can tell you what will happen if you replace the stock ROM with an international on an L710. You'll hard brick your phone. It won't power on at all.

No...no... i think you misunderstood me... i didn't meant to replace the stock ROM with an international, I know it will be bricked... I said replacing the process "com.android.phone" on the STOCK ROM with the same process from an international ROM... Not the whole ROM. In the stock "com.android.phone" it has some secret options that include GSM options but you cannot save, and anything else makes the process to stop working and prompt you to force close it (the GSM version of com.android.phone that is IN your L710 stock rom), probably cause it may be moded by Sprint itself, but it's there. But replacing ONLY this process from an international Rom, who knows? maybe it can restore some functionality and make it usable in GSM networks. Just saying, haven't tried yet cause my L710 is unsuable at the time, broken outer glass... :( But if someone can verify this, it could help a lot people, if not, it could stay the same, or make calls not working, but with a hard reset at most it would be revert back to normal. Not much of a deal. So what i said has nothing to do with a hard brick or anything like it.

You would need more than just SecPhone.apk, believe me... This is an impossible dream unless you know how to micro-souder a SIM card slot onto the device and then reverse engineer the software to work with the international S3 software. We're talking a ridiculous amount of work. It would be easier to just go out and buy the international S3 and probably cost you less time and money.
