The SD cards being sent it true, but only partially. The SD cards are put into the devices before startup and then booted from it specifically. Then the FW gets flashed with the information that is on the SD cards. Once the device is flashed/updated with the data from the SD card you do NOT need to keep the card in the device. In fact you should not keep it in the device.

To ENABLE demo mode you have to go to All Settings > Device Information and then press the Volume Up button and tap with your finger just above the volume bar that shows up at the top of the screen. Another menu pops up with a box asking for Demo mode (among other information). If it's checked, uncheck it. But just keep in mind that the demo information is still flashed onto the device and I'm not aware of any way to restore it or erase it.

But once it's out of Demo mode you should be able to deregister the device (has happened at my store one or twice already). But like some others have mentioned, the serial numbers for each demo machine are tracked so it might be flagged as stolen.

Thanks that worked. I just want to try it out. Unlike the kindle fire I'm sure some one will come up with a modded android OS to wipe out the nook os. much like when the nook color first launched. Thanks for the help though

How do you get a "Demo Nook"

Does any one know if it's possible to wipe a Nook HD+ Demo unit. I came into possession of one and I'd like to wipe it to make a standard version

Perhaps you could reveal how you came "into possession" of this demo nook. One way is to yank hard on the security tether or to use wire snips to cut it. Demo nooks come from stores

Here is a way to do this. Walking into a Nook Retailer and say, "Someone gave this to me as a present, but I don't know how to get ahold of them in order to fully authenticate my ownership of the device.", or "Gee, i found this on the street, so anyway i want to get access to the devcice, could you help me to deregister so that I can take control of the device." or, ................. If this is a nook with a legitimate history of being paid for with legitimate transfer of ownership, all you need to do is go into a retailer and they will be more than happy to help you regain access to your legitimately purchased nook.

Stolen nooks get blacklisted

If you have a stolen nook, it will have been blacklisted. I would just do the honest thing and contact Barnes and Noble and see if they have reported it as stolen. You might also contact the local police and see if it has been reported as stolen. This way you could get the nook back to its rightful owners. It is also good to be aware that to be in possession of stolen property is also a crime. It doesn't matter whether you are the one who stole it or not. I wonder if you will do the honest thing.

HI I am totally new on here. I have the same problem. I went to purchase an HD+ 9 16GB but the store only had the demo model and will only be getting the 32GB in future. They agreed to sell me the demo unit greatly discounted explaining that I would need to reset it. They did offer to help but I had to get away for an appointment - I can go back if need be. All this is to point out that it is totally legitimate. It shows the following settings:
Owner
TEST NOOKUSER

Account
[email protected]

Software version
2.0.6

Model number
BNTV600

Serial number
3024********4303

Wi-Fi MAC address
58:67:**:**:**:14

It only appears to charge to 1% and runs the demo mode through mains. Immediately it is unplugged it shuts down, so cannot be powered down holding the power button for 20 seconds as suggested above.
As I say, I can go back to the store but I thought there might be somebody here who might enjoy helping out.

Not Stolen

I know this topic is old, but I just wanted to throw this out there. This actually goes for any demo unit. The stores get these units for display purposes. After their time has run and they are no longer needed, the units go to the stores return center. The return center does whatever it is that they do, and then auctions are held on lots of used electronics. The lots can include new items (shelf pulls or end of season stuff), buyers remorse items, unwanted gifts, damaged boxes, demo units, you name it. Small businesses bid on the lots, win them, do their part to refurb them, then resell them at a discounted rate. This is all perfectly legal and is how a lot of people come in to possession of a demo unit.

What did you think happened to the stuff you returned to the store? They don't just tape it up and put it back on the shelf. Now you know the process.
