I tried the fake-server trick once before, not because I was having a problem but because of the claims of reduced battery drain. I'm not using it now, however, and ActiveSync only seems to run when I reset the device; when I terminate it, that seems to be the last I see of it until I reset again. I don't actually synchronize it with anything these days, so this is a good thing. I'm still using Kozhura's 6.0 revision 4, as far as I know (I've forgotten how to check).

/edit:
Well, it seems I actually DO have a server setting, though I don't recall doing it: the server is m.google.com, which seems like a really weird choice. As I said Activesync tries to start after every reset, but when I kill it it never attempts again. I don't know if that's the result of this server configuration or not.

I can't tell you what version of Activesync that I have running on my Pocket PC, but I can tell you that it's exactly the same version you have, assuming we're both using Kozhura's ROM. You're confusing the "client" side with the "server" side. As I said, I don't even have a version of Activesync installed on a desktop system and don't ever sync the Pocket PC now, and AFAIK it's only the Win32 software that has a version, per se. I can't even determine what version of the binary is in the hx4700, because there's no "About" function where it might display it. In any case, the Win32 version number is moot because that isn't what's running on the hx4700, and that version must be the same if we're using the same ROM. You don't get a new version of the ARM binary when you install a new version on a paired desktop system.

Aargh! I just flashed Kozhura's WM6.1 ROM and, just like before, ActiveSync turns itself on every 5 minutes! Creating a fake server didn't change anything, either. Any ideas out there? Does the Phamquang ROM do this? Don

Try changing the file \Windows\ActiveSync\CtrlLog.txt to "read only"

and/or with a registry editor change this key:

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ ActiveSync \ Engines \ {176F4FFD-F20C-4bd4-BDD7-01D0726C567B} \ Settings]
"SyncAfterTimeWhenCradled"=dword:00000000

Change the dword value to 0 as shown above, which means manual sync. The default value is 5, 5= 5mins, 15= 15mins, etc

You can do both these things with skTools.

Thanks, firefly123! A couple of questions: First, how do I change the \Windows\ActiveSync\CtrlLog.txt to "read only?" Where do I find this file? Second, which version of SKTools is right? I downloaded the lite, but when I clicked on the .cab file to install it on my Hx4700, I got a warning saying the program was only for devices running WM6 and I'm running 6.1. Don

First, you need to be using a better file explorer program than the one included with WM. RescoExplorer or TotalCommander etc. If you don't have one of these yet, there very useful for lots of reasons. Now go into the options settings of the program and set it so that you can see all files, including those in rom, hidden...everything. Then if you navigate to the \Windows\ActiveSync folder you'll see CtrlLog.txt. Tap and hold it, choose properties, and change to read-only.
Second, I don't know which SKTools is right, I have the full version and I think there's a demo. As for the warning, I wouldn't worry about it. I always get warnings saying "the software you are installing was not designed for your version of windows" and it's never a problem.

It's alive !! LOL
 ... well, sorry it didn't work for you. Have you seen this activesync thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477720
There's also a setting in sktools that stops activesync from connecting at all (sktools-tuneup-activesyncpage-autoconnect set to no) I don't know the reg key for that.
BTW when changing any setting in registry it's a good idea to right away turn off power, wait a few seconds, turn on, then soft reset.

What about setting activesync to not start with windows (in XP: start\run\type:msconfig\OK\startup tab\uncheck wcescomm(activesync)\OK)

Alkor ROM 21054 question?

I often used PhamQuang PDAViet Rom, but after installing lot of programs, the icon started blinking, touch pad out of control and programs took time to start.
So I move to Alkor ROM 21054 (many thanks to dpdurst for collecting all ROMs). Modify it with 12 MB page pool.
At first, it's very fast but i have trouble with reset (must unplug battery for reset), then still the same trouble with touch pad - automatic get something pressed for the left or the right... even i don't touch it at all.
With 10-20 softwares installed, i can do reset in normal way (thanks God!) but the touch pad continues working incorrectly.

I wonder if anyone could help?
Thanks

turn it off. its the worst part of the 4700 IMHO.. the layers stick and you get phantom presses... i had to turn mine off so i could use it at all..either that or turn the sensitivity way down....

start/settings "synaptics navpoint" navpoint sensitivity to heavy touch...
also check navigation mode not cursor mode.

this should effectively disable the touch pad .

Dropped my hx4700 into water 2 years ago. Now, after extended drying period it is working well again. So, I upgraded it to WM6.1. Everything seems better and faster. Installed Opera Mobile 10 and noticed that all images have pixel-doubling (like Pocket IE used to have). I think older Opera (8.65; 9) used native resolution for showing images. Anybody knows how to fix it?
