I'm a newbie and have joined this forum to ask one specific question...I am running WMWifiRouter on a HTC TP2...my Macbook and Iphone see the wifi network and connect without issue (although the Airport on the Macbook recognizes it as a "device" and not a wifi router)...however I have Motorola Droid (2.01) and it does not see the network...I've read various posts here and on other forums that seem to indicate that there is a hidden SSID that needs to be enabled on the Droid...I've downloaded an app Hidden SSID Enabler but have been unsuccessful in finding the WMWifiRouter SSID...have mercy, I'm a Mac OS guy and between the WM and Android OS's I'm clueless...any help would be appreciated.

Chainfire,
Just downloaded this app and the ICSInstall cab and wanted to tell you this is the greatest app I think I've ever seen! Fast, simple, and easy to setup (well, not really any setup). I was honestly shocked that my through put was actually equal to my cell through put... I even had two other co-workers connect and still maintained through put! To me, this is like, WOW!
This is for sure on my wish list and I'll be purchasing a key as soon as I have the spare cash to buy one..
THANKS for the cool product!

Got a suggestion for the next version...

On the iPod Touch, it is able to do a fake form of GPS location using Skyhook. It does this by looking up the MAC address of the WiFi hotspot it is connected to in a database which then returns a location. They have generated this database using a combination of driving around and recording the location of WiFi points, and user submissions.

Now I presume this request must be done to a fixed address, so what if WMWifiRouter could intercept that and do its own response to the iPod. One using the co-ordinates it has obtained from the phone's built in GPS.

So what you in effect have achieved is to turn your GPS enabled phone into a GPS module for your iPod Touch.

What I don't know is whether the iPod polls the same IP address more than once, or whether it just assumes it is fixed once it has a response. So it may only be of limited use for a single position lock, but if it polls regularly, then as you move around, the location will update and you could even use stuff like sat nav software.

mobile won't connect to internet WITHOUT WMWifiRouter anymore

Hello guys. I have a strange problem and been browsing through this whole thread but couldn't find any help for my case.

I have WMWifiRouter 1.60 installed on my custom ROM HTC TP2 (Germany - Eplus). Except from high battery use and loss of connection when turning the mobile's screen off, it works smoothly. Great tool!

BUT: Since I installed WMWifiRouter my TP2 can't connect to the internet anymore when WMWifiRouter is NOT connected to my laptop (Macbook Pro, Snow Leopard btw).

I did hard reset my TP2 once because someone in this forum had the same problem and solved it by hard resetting.
Well...didn't work in my case. After hard resetting, the internet connection worked fine again UNTIL I reinstalled WMWifiRouter.

Does anybody have any helpful thoughts on this? I'd hate having to uninstall and forget this funky program again.

Thanks!

It should keep working when you turn off the screen... perhaps use a different ROM ? (you should use version 1.61 in either case)

As for the internet problem, are you sure you have setup the right cell connection? Go to Options -> Configuration -> Cellular Network, see which options are available, if there are multiple select a different one, restart your device, retry WMWifiRouter, and see if that fixes the issue.

Oops, sorry, I do use v1.61.
Well, the strange thing is that it does work as a router. Right now I'm online using my TP2 as a router for my MB Pro. But when I quit WMWifiRouter, my TP2 can't access the internet anymore. It seems WMWifiRouter changed some internet settings so my TP2 can't do it alone anymore. When I run the prog again it works fine again.
So I guess it's not a matter of the cellular network I've chosen..?

I tried your advise nevertheless. Funny enough, it even works with another cellular network but still with the same limitations: perfect when WMWifiRouter is running and MB Pro's connected, not working when program is quit.
Do you think I should give it another try and hard reset my TP2 again and then pick the other network (btw: 1st network was "Internet GPRS" 2nd try was "Internet.GPRS" which I never put up myself...(?))?

Thanks a lot for helping out! I've only got a few days of trial left and would like to find out if I can use the prog before purchasing it.

Cheers.

You should e-mail support @ wmwifirouter . com (copy / paste all the info put here), they'll set you up with a longer trial and try to figure out the issue.

For now, do NOT hard-reset until you've talked to support (they will not answer before monday, though).

One thing they will also want to know: if you use WMWifiRouter the internet stops working, does it stay non-working also after a soft-reset ? Or does it work again until you use WMWifiRouter ?

iPhone is too restrictive to make something like that work without a jailbreak... I'm sure if you jailbreak you'll find some software that does something similar.

As for WP7S, not saying anything until after MIX :)

No. It's the other way around:
1. internet works on mobile device
2. installed WMWifiRouter: WMWifiRouter works - TP2 works as a router AND receives Emails on the TP2 while working as a router
3. when WMWifiRouter is not running - no internet connection on the TP2, no emails, no internet pages, nothing (TP2 tells me there are network problems)
4. when WMWifiRouter is running again and connected to my TP2, both have internet again.
5. hard reset
6. TP2 has internet again
7. installed and run WMWifiRouter again
8. when connected and running, TP2 and MBP have internet
9. when not connected, TP2 has no internet anymore (same as point 3.)

If that is what you meant, after running WMWifiRouter for the first time the TP2 never had internet when NOT being connected with the Macbook Pro through WMWifiRouter.

I'll forward this to the support as you said.
Do you have any ideas nevertheless?
Thanks!

Thank you for the elaboration. Please include that info as well in your email to support.

I don't know what the problem is directly, but support will run you through a procedure that will help us figure out the issue and hopefully fix it.

So, I'm confused. Is this thread for support of the freeware version? I've been reading through it, and I keep seeing questions about the commercial version...

Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth buying the new version or just use the freeware version. I really just want to be able to use my HTC Touch Pro (Sprint stock ROM) as a USB wireless adapter.

Thanks!

1) Will this app allow my iPod Touch to connect to the Internet through my Motorola Q9C?

2) Or, if I have to get a different phone, which Windows Mobile phones would allow this functionality? HTC Touch? Touch Pro 2? Diamond? Vogue? Treo Pro?

3) Same as #2, but Android-based phones.

Thanks!

Through my Blackstone, I was able to give a 3G internet connection via Wifi to an iPhone, so i guess this should work with other phones as well...;)

Where to download

I went to their web site and downloaded the trial version, and I know that that one isn't free but after skimming here I keep seeing people talk about I guess a previous version being free? I do not have a lot of money and if I can get it for free legally I would really like that. I looked for it in the first 5 pages and the last 4 pages and didn't see anything.

Good day! I installed the wmwifirouter from this site. I was able to download onto my Omnia Pro BT6710. When I activated the wifi router, it worked, and could be detected by my Nokia E72 (and I could browse on the Nokia); however, if I try to use my Omnia to browse either using Opera or IE, I am unable to. When I turn off the wmwifirouter, I am able to resume browsing. Is this really the way this software is designed? You cant use the unit broadcasting the wifi signal to browse? Please help me resolve this problem.

Not going to recap the entire history here, the first release was November 2, 2007, with a lot of releases between then and February 28. The exact history you can find scattered through this topic and the previous one - TalynOne's.

    February 28, 2008
    v0.96 TRIAL has been released.

    March 13, 2008
    v0.97 TRIAL has been released.

    March 26, 2008
    v1.00 has been released (!)

    April 1, 2008
v1.01 has been released. Various small bugfixes, specific device compatibility fixes for EM-ONE, EM-ONE Alpha and W-ZERO3. Also adds semi-live traffic statistics and live connection monitoring.

    1.02, 1.03, 1.04
These are just small maintenance releases bringing nothing really new. Some device specific things added again for the Japanese users, new trial end dates, small bug fixes.

    June 3, 2008
v1.05 has been released. Various small issues fixed. Capability added for multilingual support (only English is included out of the box, though), corporate EULA changes, new EXE installer (which can 'inject' your license key into the installation, and remembers it for future installs), small GUI adjustments.

I'd like to stress again that almost all new functionality is going into the 1.20 branch, and the < 1.20 branch will remain maintenance updates only.

    June 12, 2008
v1.20 beta sent out to the first beta testers! It still has a very long way to go, but the semi-public beta (select numer of registered users only) is probably not far off!

Hmmm... I don't know the reasoning, but I see that this has been removed from the second post, so I figured I'd post it for anybody that may still need it...

    Instructions:
    - Download the attached ICSInstall.CAB and put it on your phone
    - Click the CAB to start the install
    - Make sure to install to the DEVICE, not to the storage card!
    - Soft-reset
    - Run WMWifiRouter and have fun :)

Not really.. We're aware this conflicts on some devices, it's quite likely because many devices have a single antenna that is used for both bluetooth and wifi (and thus can interfere with eachother), combined with drivers that are not built to handle it. That's 'informed speculation', though ;)

I can assure you however, even though WMWifiRouter also offers the option to share over bluetooth, nothing is done with/to your bluetooth stack unless you choose a connection profile that actually uses it (this is true as well for cellular, wifi, usb). It's not something WMWifiRouter is doing, it's something your device is (not) doing.

I do know there some registry edit you can do on a device or two that enables simultaneous use (in the driver?). I think it was for the Athena, but not sure, been a while since I've seen that hack.

And BTW, I see you mentioned the data connection being interrupted during a call and resuming after... that is not "normal" behaviour as you describe it, in fact, it depends entirely on the network you are using and it's capabilities. For comparison, my data connection never drops when I get a call (it'll happily keep going), while for other people calls do not come through at all when a data connection is active. For more information, see http://support.wmwifirouter.com/knowledge/KB0802013/.
