General Working GCAM for S23 Ultra

Search This thread
It does not work perfectly. Tested that yesterday a bit, overall exposure is brighter, but it has some tendency to overexpose white areas to make it have no details at all, as the whole profile was rather optimized to the darker one.
It's because GCam has worse HDR than stock and I found the balance when I don't lose info from light and shadows and the photo is not too dark for me.
Btw stock is overexposed most of time for most of cases.

Yeah one limitation gcam has over stock is it can't use AI to decide which profile to use based on the scene you have in front of you, so we have to use a config that works the best it can in all scenarios. If we wanted the most in each scenario, we'd probably need to have 1 xml per scene (outdoor, indoor, night, portrait, etc.) and then we'd be the AI selecting the right profile. This would become annoying very quickly 😂
I've seen Java do some extensive tests with extreme hdr to recover highlights to a point where it was better than stock... But it had too much negative impact in other scenarios that it never made it to an official released XML.

For me, the stock is too bright, and overall just bad. Your config is maybe a tad too dark, as I have described in some post ago, in many situations it is a bit too compressed on one side of the histogram, But anyways, If I have to choose, I will choose your approach, as anyways I always do RAWs as well. If only these would have been stacked ones... I find that JPGs from GCAM are more detailed about what is possible to get from DNG.

Expo toggle allow us to cover most of cases, but of course, custom GCam cannot be a silver bullet for all people and all cases :)

What phone do you have? S23 ultra? what camera .apk did you install ?
Keep reading this thread more. I know there is 50+ pages and lot of posts but it's still good to read all.

If you want to use GCam LMC 8.4 then download "ruler" or "scan3d" version.

Read also this post.

I totally agree with you. It is almost impossible to get perfect setup that works for all scenarios. Here you can see some images with expo on and off. It brightens up to image but overexposes some bright areas between clouds. However, overexposed areas looked a bit weird with some hue in these scenarios. I will try more in a sunny day. I wonder which one handles sunset better.

So I've been playing with JavaSabr's config file.
Tips:
- Go to Photo Processing and Disable Lib Patcher
I've noticed that leaving processing on that for some reason some of the values are not at the default values (no idea why) and will affect the photos.

I've compared this to using LMC with Matteo22D's custom lib and S23ultramc.xml and the results from this config and custom lib have such a natural DSLR look that I can't get with JavaSavbr's xml file alone with the default Google lib.

Has anyone else a similar experience?

Yes, me too. I'm sticking with that set-up for now but it's great to have so many people working these Gcam configs.

Lib patcher modifies values in the currently loaded lib (Google's in Java's config). If you disable lib patcher, you simply are using Google's defaults. When you instead use matteo, you're doing the same thing as what Java does when he modifies all the lib patcher settings, it's just that all customization is hidden in that custom lib.

But if you did import and activated matteo on all lenses then yeah, you definitely don't want to use Java lib patcher settings as they will modify matteo lib settings and give a different result. At this point, you're basically using matteo's "XML" from a camera tuning perspective.

You saw my latest pic with his config, if you don't achieve such results, might be worth uninstalling lmc, delete the whole lmc 8.4 root folder and start from scratch to make sure you're testing lmc the exact way Java configured it.
So are you saying that when using Matteo libs, lib patcher needs to be disabled?

So are you saying that when using Matteo libs, lib patcher needs to be disabled?
Lib patcher overwrites the settings defined in it from the library you use. Java tweaked the settings according to Google's default library. Matteo might use many different default values so Java lib patcher wouldn't be optimized for it. So yes, if you use matteo, you might need to disable Java lib patcher if you don't like the output.

Yes, me too. I'm sticking with that set-up for now but it's great to have so many people working these Gcam configs.
Disabling libpatcher in LMC removes all customizations from the config. You essentially have stock LMC, except for the lens ID modifications to get things running on the S23U. When you load a lib on top of the XML the two interact, and this XMLs that use libs are typically developed in tandem.

🌟 NiCkAM8PRO V2.5 (AGC V9.5 GCam) Custom Pack (APK + Profile): https://gofile.io/d/Aiphia 💥

Changelog:

4 integrated profiles to play with, using the top-right icon on the viewfinder: "Authentic", "Black & White", Sepia" and "Bright", each with their own characteristics. They can even be combined with the included "Leica" profile for added vignetting and some slightly different colors & white balance. HDR+ and - values have been defaulted and White Levels were slightly re-adjusted, for improved results. Tele 10x fix when using HDR+ is also included. JPEG size is set to 97% for all lenses, after no significant improvement in IQ could be found when pixel-peeping between 97% and 99%.

1) Download the above .zip file to your device 'Download' folder and extract it in this folder.
2) Install the APK file.
3) Start the app and make sure you grant all needed permissions for it to work correctly.
4) Open the Quick Settings panel, then 'Load Configs', select my profile and have fun! :)

/// Preferably enable 'HDR+Enhanced' photo mode for Selfies under low-light, for cleaner shots \\\

For close-up shots (but not only), you might getter better results if you manually focus on the brightest zone of your subject, as it will usually ensure better overall contrasts, gamma levels and less clipped highlights.

For higher-quality / less noisy results in low-light shots, you can adjust the shutter speed slider, on the left side of the viewfinder, to 1/15 or even 1/8s of a second (just remember to remain still for a second or two).

You can also try the "Leica Filter" mode if you fancy some different color temperature / white balance and vignetting in your shots.

Cheers!
Can we increase/decrease the number of frames with HDR+ Enhanced?
Can't find it anywhere.... IF it's possible

Some sample from my recent trip.

Probably is not the best photo quality on the market, but using the Gcam overall I'm very satisfied of the incredibile versatility.
Plus the device is all around the best you can find.

I did many test gcam 12mpx vs stock 50mpx and 200mpx, and i can say that most of the time high res stock is useless. Details are similar or even better with gcam at 12mpx.
