Probably a stupid question..... but the apk just "works" on my zen8. Where do I enter these settings to alter or add tele/wide? (I have opened the settings menu but do not recognize the fields where I can enter these values)

I will prepare a collection of photos from Camera app and gcam. From my observations it's 50/50 which means that some are better on Asus and some on Google cam. From what I see is that in very difficult conditions - like against direct sunlight - Google makes more pleasent photos, but Asus is generally brighter and in shadows keeps more natural colours. In dimmspaces Google keeps the colours as they are, however.

Most of the times during day theres no visible benefit of google. Also HDR+ takes much more time to shoot. HDR is quick, though.

I've read on zenfone 7, that is possible to activate the 64mpixel. I tried all IDs, but no-one works. On zenfone 7, the write that I'd is 6 :)

ID 6 crashes the app so it does not work.
After todays photo session I can say that the gcam is not an upgrade. In most cases stock camera is better. Actually looking at the app versions it seems that the stock camera IS Google Camera with some slight adjustment.

If the sharpness of the stock cmaera could be slightly reduced to avoid pixelation it would be perfect. Maybe some manual log change will be possible for that.

I have created a folder with various photos from the Zenfone 8 taken on the stock camera and on the gcam.
You're welcome to take a look and compare by yourself - all data and an easy way to differentiate the cameras is the "info" where gcam has PXL_ in name and stock has P_

Comments on album are welcome.

In my opinion the stock camera is generally better and produces more true to life outcome. It is a little bit to bright and the sharpness in details is a little to big. You can see that only by zooming in. This can be overcome by shooting 64MP which happens quick but the size is bigger.

Thank you for your contribution, nice photos!
From what I can see, the gcam has more sharpening and saturation, which I like in photos.
But I prefer the HDR management of the stock camera, I love how it captures the clouds.

Is there a way to adjust contrast and saturation on the stock camera?

Yes and no, there are no options for that but you can slightly lower the brightness during the photo taking with a slider onscreen. That makes them a little more like gcam.

I have also noticed that HDR on stock is really nice but it softenes the image and destroys edges. With no HDR it super sharp.

Also stock wide camera has almost no distortion where gcam is quite round on edges.

thanks for sharing your experience, for me most of the times the gcam pics look much better on a calibrated monitor.
do you know if Face retouching and night sight are working with this gcam version?

I saw that selfie camera, during night, the HDR doesn't work properly. But also the stock camera, all selfies in the night are very cheaper quality :/

Edit: I put the selfie camera with "pixel 4 settings", it works now!

I saw that gcam make miracles, especially with selfie camera, during night. HDR work perfectly. All lens working properly.

This gcam freezing after 3 seconds, but i can take pictures, while changing lens. We need buffer fix, for make it working?☺️ or existing some config file?

Thanks

4k/60 fps doesn't work with gcam, is saved as 4k/30fps.. Would like to use GCam for filming because it has much smoother zooming while recording, in the default camera app the zoom is very choppy.

    Asus with GCam, night mode:
    View attachment 5331241

I would say GCam is for now useless for night mode, better to use stock. Stock night mode is worse than actually using a Pixel, but, by doing automatic photo adjustments it ends up usable.
This is due to exposure limit at 1/10 maximum from stream config. By default it was set to EIS V3
To fix this you need to change stream to EIS V2 for both wide and ultra wide back camera.
This allow to shoot much longer exposure for night mode and astrophotography up to 40 seconds
For front camera, keep stream config set to EIS V3.
I will set these stream config as default setting in the next version.

Edit: For 64mp mode. We have to wait Asus release an update to fix raw buffer resolution limitation. They recently fixed for Rog Phone 5. The new update didn't address this isue as of now

There's a new update from Wichaya, he added noise model from ZF8 ultrawide and front:

    - GCam_8.1.101_Wichaya_V1.6 (Wichaya, 2022-08-12, configs)

Configs from v1.5 should work fine on v1.6.
