I prefer the Focus design more than the 800. But no doubt the 800 has better build quality and is made of metal. Nevertheless, I love holding my Focus, it feels good in the hand and looks good to behold. The display is outstanding and an excellent compliment to the style of WP7.
It is not made of metal to quote mobilechoiceuk

"Unlike these powerhouses, it’s not made of aluminium, but of a matt, rubbery plastic that feels surprisingly lightweight. It doesn’t feel cheap "

I think metal would of been cool but with a phone this sexy i dont care but if your not obssessed by the looks upgrade after a year are never big steps. I personally would shoot my mother for one in blue though.

They're probably talking about the bendable Nokia phone, not the 800. The 800 is the same as the N9 and the N9 is all aluminum.

First thing first, a 24 months contract is never worth it. You're better off paying part of the phone and get a shorter contract.
That aside I don't think any of the new phones is worth an upgrade unless you're desperate for a front facing camera, in which case Nokia is out of the equation. All the first gen phones run Mango well, there are no apps or games that necessitate a faster processor, the cameras are fine, really I can't see a valid reason to upgrade. Only larger internal storage would be worth an upgrade and it can now only come from the Focus S which I doubt very much will happen.
Keep your upgrade option in the air for when a proper phone arrives, I know it's hard because there's that desire to get something new and shiny but all thing considered it's not worth it, especially on a 24 months contract.
Not always true, I got a free HTC Desire (on Launch, ~£450 unlocked) for £25 a month on a 24 month contract. 600 Minutes, Unlimited Texts and 3gb Internet.

That's £600 over 2 years.

I use on average 500 texts a month which, on PAYG (10p a text) would cost £50 a month so I'm not even fully paying for the services I use let alone the handset itself (I did ofc go on to sell the handset for an Omnia 7 but that's a different story).

My point is handsets are released at a fast pace nowadays and not all of them get updated, it's not exactly a question of price. The 2nd gen WP7 devices are barely upgrades on the 1st ones so what's the point of getting tied now for 2 years when we know other devices will be released in 2012 (HTC with Beats and Nokia phones should come before Apollo)?
I'm not saying you should always wait for better but in this case there's little difference between what's coming out now and what came out last year, it's not like upgrading from an iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4 for instance.

Wow, it is. Just read a review saying as much. Screw Nokia. They now have nothing special to offer. The metal construction they've always had prior to the N9 is gone.
Just in case you've misunderstood, this isn't your run-of-the-mill plastic construction. The N9 and Lumia 800 are crafted from a single piece of polycarbonate that's coloured right the way through. I wouldn't say it's worse than metal, just different. Construction is still solid, feel is still high-quality. If anything it should be lighter and more hard-wearing (scratches won't show up as badly with their chosen material).

i hear you on this one. When i first pointed it out i didnt think it a negative in fact more of a posative. has said it isnt just some normal plastic it should feel a lot more modern then a metal phone as well as having better signal. Metal also slides in my hand this will be a lot more comfortable to use.

Marty, you're such a hater.
Polycarbonate is an interesting material, and the magenta and black Lumia 800s look fantastic. Like most people, the specs aren't a big enough jump - and Mango hasn't nailed my current handset and make me "need" to upgrade.
But the Lumia looks lovely, and the 8M pixel camera (and a review of its low light ability) might make me get one. Plus the built in Navigation.

I have been using Nokia for a long time now, my most current device it's the N8 and to tell you the truth i think Elop was right stating this is the first "real" WP, this device goes far beyond tech specs or screen sizes.

Just look at the quality control Nokia has and their build quality, the screen uses almost no battery (see Nokia Sleeping Screen), a very original design compared to HTC that uses almost the same as their Androids.

A big letdown was the use of bluetooth 2.1 instead of 3.0 like on my N8 but it doesn't really matter because WP has an integrated assistant but still 3.0 uses less power also not having a front facing camera that is going to be used in the future with Skype in WP.

If WP isn't about specs then why not choose Nokia???
