assuming this is true

There standpoint on Gingerbread for their flagship phone, basically a big F U to their customers
“Such a review will be based on various factors including, without limitation, the overall effect of such Update to Samsung products, the system requirements, the structural limitations, and the level of cooperation from the component suppliers and the software licensors”.
“If Samsung decides to make the Update available to the users after such consideration, Samsung will use its efforts to develop such Update, which may be released to the users upon successful completion of such development”.
are you kidding me..its the same damn device (EDIT: as in the other galaxy s phones)

While I am not siding with them - they really aren't the same devices. If they were we could easily port vibrant and captivate roms. There is clearly work that has to go into each variant of the SGS line. It would probably make the LEAST amount of sense for the Epic to not get 2.3 officially. Primarily because of its 4g Radio and Front Cam - features that the others lack- even though our device is probably the most complicated to get working right.

In my opinion this is a conflicting report with what that one leak tweeter/w/e he was said. Samsung didn't say no, they basically said "Um, well, uh maybe?" so it has, at least in mind, just as little credibility as some guy saying we were getting it. Just have to wait and see.

i agree it all is still rumor, but it doesnt hurt to have some hope...

merry christmas
Having hope means you can either be:

Hope for X

1) Let down horribly - No X
or
2) Content - X

Having no hope means you can be:

1) Pleasantly surprised - X
or
2) Content - No X

Hope is stupid. Its math.

But its not only our device. Theyre talking about their whole galaxy s line. Samsung says we will think about it, while htc says we're working on it.

I love my phone but damn you samsung. If only htc had super amoled screens, and put decent camera sensors in their phones..I'm really considering that HTC Knight

This may very well be the last straw that makes me sell my Epic. While I realize that Samsung doesn't owe me anything, until people quit buying their phones, they'll keep jerking us around. HTC, here I come.

LOL. I thought it would at least be a few days after Froyo's release before we got these posts about Gingerbread.

I have 2 people wanting to trade their Evo for my epic. Samsung doesn't support their products as well as HTC, and it sucks. For some reason, I think they would rather put out new phones with Gingerbread and make you buy the, than give you an upgrade.

Yes, yes, for profit. We all get that they're in the business of selling phones, not giving free updates. That's why I read an interesting blog about paying for OS updates a little while back. I'd gladly pay a few bucks to get honeycomb or ice cream on a 6 month to year old phone and to have them out in a timely fashion. Then Samsung and all the other manufacturers would have an incentive to actually put out updates for phones as well.
