So what?

I have hd2 phone too. And am I happy? Not quite :) There are days I am pleased with the android port and there are some I am not...

- WM6: worst system ever. Sense make it little more usable.
- Android: very nice but is it really working as it should? probably not.
- WM7: never had it! Why not? Because i have HD2...

Let be honest: I appreciate the hard work of the developers and they did the great thing. Furthermore I am very thankful I was able to try out the Android system. But it was never 100% finished on hd2 and I don't know if it will be ever (who can tell that)?. And Desire HD is still beta.

For those geeks that are happy with the fact that hd2 can be booted with 2,3,4 etc. OS: WOW!!!. So you don't have anything other to do except to boot from one system to other (and by that ported ones)? How about one system but good one?

What is good from all that porting sh...?
- you dont have money and you are happy you can put a decent os on your hd because you can afford anther phone with the originally designed system
- you can try android or mayber wm7 and decide what the next phone will be (HD7, Desire HD etc)
- As mentioned before you are a geek and run around and show your friends how amazing your hd2 is. And most of them dont care because they have either iPhone or think why you have bought a 700$ phone to use another OS on it?

At the end what to conclude? It would be nice if we could have any version of WM7 on our hd2 to get the feeling how the system works. After that most of the people will decide to go for android, wm7 or maybe iOS (like: i am tired of this sh....)

Sooner or later we will maybe have 100% functional android or wm7 on our hd2. By then most of the people will already have a new phone and maybe keep the hd2 as a nice memory on the time we were young ;)

For me: I am thinking how much money i can get for the old hd2 and how much money i need to put on top of that to get the next smartphone. how sad the technology can be...

Because I want them all, and you don't know what you are talking about...

Winmo + Android + WinPhone7, all in one Phone!

Thats, what I am talking about!!!
I have HD2 for about a year and I have tried both froyo and desire images. So i know what i am talking about.

Can it be done? Yes.
Remember these are the same people bring android on win mo device. I am sure it wont be that hard to port win mo 7. Since hd2 already met the hardware requirement except front button.
So if you want to be negative about it go use iphone stick with it and whine that you can put any other os on that phone.

hd2 was originally going to have a wp7 upgrade, until earlier this year, when microsoft stated they would only have phones with 3 button (hd2 has 5) - therefore development must have already begun on the hd2 then ported over onto newer devices by the MS devs...

just remember - it's all possible...
Ahahahah!if i remember this is the same thing that MS said when i bought my first HTC HD..ahahaha "don't worry your device will be upgradable soon when WM 6.5 will come out" and eventually: "sorry your device has only 4 hardware buttons,WM 6.5 needs 5 buttons!" this is marketing....ahahahah

Lucky we are to have Cotulla & Friends!

nicely said :) android is not much better on that. upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2? nice one lol

I did not said that it cant be done. Everything can be done. You can go further and write your own drivers for hd2 if the ported one does not work as they should. How about that? Ah yes, you probably can do that because of the lack of knowledge. On the other side you cant tell for sure THAT IT WILL BE DONE because you are not working on it. The cotulla is here today tomorrow maybe somewhere else. He is doing that for free so free stuff lives shortly (i dont speak here about freeware as it is).

I had iphone 3gs once. Why should someone put another os on iphone? it is working just as it should. If you dont like app driven and restrictive policy from apple than buy your self other phone. As i did with hd2. An ended up with winmo 6.5. Great deal LOL

One day i could be the president of the united states. As the time goes further this possibility gets smaller and smaller and smaller and.....

At the end of the day it depends what you use the phone for to see if its worth sticking with the HD2 or getting a so called real WP7 phone.

- WM6: worst system ever. Sense make it little more usable.
In my view, Sense makes it very usable and I think it kicks the iphone's ass... and I had an iphone!
But then again, in my view, sense also made Android more usable. I tried android without sense and didn't like it... but thats just my view.

- Android: very nice but is it really working as it should? probably not.
My brother has a desire, I have my HD 2 on dual boot with a froyo image. Comparing phones I see nothing to show that his phone is more complete than mine. Everything works the same. Infact my battery lasts longer!. Most Android images run fine in my experiance and are good enough for complete replacement to WM 6.5

- WM7: never had it! Why not? Because i have HD2...
Well thats just a pointless comment. You never had it because its not out yet lol. It has nothing to do with what phone you have now.

I for one will be looking forwarded to seeing WP7 on HD2. I'm very disappointed with the spec of the current WP7 line up and I'm guessing it won't be till next year untill we see things like dual core cpus etc..

Cotulla and co, you rock as always.

I don't understand why are some ppl writing bad words about the HTC HD2 or the Android/WP7 thing.
I think that the HTC HD2 is a really good device, and see, I haven't said PHONE.
The HTC HD2 is a really powerful ARM device, I can say, talking of HW it's the best at the moment (don't say "but it doesn't have PowerVR", you'll make me to get angry.) but I think that it's a real MISTAKE for HTC.

Let's talk conscientiously.

The HD2 is the only phone with an 1GHz ARM CPU, and we're talking of Qualcomm Scorpion that is really efficient in calculation. I'm saying that it was a mistake from HTC because when they've released it, it was really TOO MUCH powerful, so that ppl that have got it aren't switching to another device because the HD2, after (more than) a year from its release, has still got the BEST ARM board out there!
In my life, I've ever sold my "old" devices after 6 months of device's life because there came better hardware etc, but my HTC HD2 will live for much, much longer. At the moment my HD2 is 1yr old and I think that it'll resist at least for other 6 months and probably for a longer time!

Cotulla is giving us the possibility to really use our device's hardware at its best, providing us a vast choice of operating systems, and see, the only problem of WP7 is that it has got a new kernel with a totally new structure.
When the CE7 kernel porting will be done, it's like having a new WiMo device, as we can continue to cook ROMs like we've already done for previous WM devices. I can remember my old HTC clone by HP (Personal Messenger ...something) that came with WM5.0 and ended with WM6.5.
I mean, when CE7 porting will be done, we'll have WP7 on HD2... and when Microsoft will develop WP7.1 -- WP7.5 ...etc, we'll easily get it substituting only OS files because Microsoft won't change the CE kernel for a long time.

Remember that the last CE4 mobile OS from Microsoft was PocketPC2003 if I remember well. CE5 is WM5 - WM6 - WM6.1 - WM6.5 - WM6.5.5.

Anyway, this can be synthetized in a single phrase:
Cotulla is GOD.

I never said that the developers does not do a very good job. I am developer my self (thus 'normal' developer) but i admire the efforts of such people because myself i'll never spent any seconds hacking on phones etc... :D

But cotulla has a life (i hope so) and he is working on wm7, android (froyo, desire hd at later point) and whatsoever operating systems. so he cant do everything at once and whole his life. he is very intelligent person with a lot of spare time but certainly not a god, otherwise there would be no reason to wait for a working build. ;) credits here to all other working with him.

but google and m$ can! that was my point.

so if you intend to always wait for the working camera, better battery, no freezes etc. add to that millions of builds from different chefs, its ok. you can do that. :)

i had my fun. i hope the next phone will be wm7 or desire hd and i can use it immediatelly and dont worry about build october, build november, beta 2, beta 3 etc...

but this is only me ;)

From what I can tell Cotulla really enjoys solving puzzles. He and his friends have done an excellent job of solving the puzzle of making these operating systems compatible with phones that are capable of running them but aren't being accounted for by MS or the manufacturers. If he is happy then he has a life and I appreciate his work.

Why has this thread been renamed?

At the moment, it is a pointless thread with no real information it. The thread title leads me to believe that Cotulla has actually replied to the thread and is keeping us updated...which he hasn't and he isn't.

I'm not saying close the thread, but just questioning why the thread title was changed. If anything, it should be [pre]WP7 on HTC HD2 (discussion) or something...
