hi there, I am trying to run from my HD2 flashed with WP7 mango and I get...

ISETool.exe - Application error
The exception unknown software exception (0xe0434352) occured in the application at location 0x75f39617

This comes up quite a few times (once per application I think) and I also get the same error when I run the isolated storage explorer tool and click on get data?

nice, thx for the tool :)

another question: are you just going through the complete app folder and backing up everything along its way?

That Isolated Storage Explorer tool from MS only works with XAPs you deployed directly to the phone. Marketplace apps are protected by their license to download from the phone, I think. However you should be able to open up this paths with Advanced Explorer or TouchXplorer, because they use the OEM DLL files and native code for file access. This would involve copying the protected content to a folder accessible from your tool and then transfer to your pc.

Could someone test my theory? My Mango HD7 denies the touchXplorer or Advanced Explorer start although its an official developer phone. Must fix that finaly someday :(

Is this actually any different from the official ISETool? I mean, the one that actually comes with the dev kit? That one doesn't work for *any* Marketplace application; unless you downloaded the XAP and side-loaded it, the tool won't work.

It's cool and all, but aside from a command-line interface (which I am fine with) to a GUI, what does this enable?
as i mentioned in post#1, i can't access the IsoStore of apps/games which is downloaded from marketplace :(

I'll take that as a "no" then. I've been working on a "real" backup (all data, not just limited to sideloaded) and explored ISETool.exe but concluded it wouldn't work for what I need, so I was wondering if you'd done something to it that made it work better than the official version.

i'm too busy, i'll spend sometimes to think and may be i'll figure out a way to do that :)

Ideas

i'm too busy, i'll spend sometimes to think and may be i'll figure out a way to do that :)
Just an idea:
One can create a WP7 app that collects everything from IsoStore running on the phone and copying all to its folder. Than backup that file to PC. It is achievable as ThouchXplorer can access these folders.

Restore: After ROM Update the first XAP should be this program which can restore the Backup file to phone than extract every settings to its corresponding folder on IsoStore.

There is a lot to add here:
1. Auto XAP install along restore (Use XAP folder to grab needed applications).
2. Use Marketplace to convert GUIDs to AppNames (WindowsDesktopMarketplace has a downloader that can find paid apps too - URL is stored in wp7-search.exe.config XML file).
3. Backup all phone settings (Tile layout, Wifi passwords, Call and message tones, etc)

I know it is time consuming to develop these. But sure it will be popular if some codes this.

Regards,
Cina

Ok... So I needed to make use of this earlier today and I agree with Cina. One big thong for me would be if we could get the app name instead or as well as the GUID as the GUID doesn't mean much to us.

Also the ability to backup selected applications (So it must let me pick what I want to backup/restore).

Then if you could try and find a method to backup marketplace apps, will be even more awesome! Maybe consider what Cina said... See if you can't do anything with that?

Then the last thing would be to have an option to auto-install the .xap files a well as restore the data to your phone after you have just flashed it! :-D

This application has A LOT of potential!!

OK, it's not working for me either, I get the error regarding ISETool after each folder has been "backed-up" and all folders are empty in the restore folder. Several people have mentioned this along the thread and so far no straightforward answers, any clue?

I have a question.

The first time I ran i got errors and empty files. Then I ran the SDK 7.1 and got an error on the install of that. However, the backup then ran without the previous error and some folders have contents (small files about 1k) and other folders are empty. I'm wondering if it backed up correctly even if some folders are empty?

In other words, does empty folders indicate the backup did not work correctly?

While its backing up Navigon it gives up and moves on to the next app around Serbia to spain. About 1.6GB into the backup

So check your map dir I expect you will be missing map files

Also check the size of the dir.

Not sure why its dropping out. Its not th elock screen as i have that on 1h and im not doing any thing else that woudl cause it to fail.

EDIT: Running ISETool manually to see if it works on its own or if i get an error logged
EDIT2: Works fine with manual cmd with ISETool, seems to hit a timeout in your app that does not exist with manually running the tool. Takes about 24mins to back up this app isolatedstore folder and seems to hit your time out around 20mins in. Hope this helps you track it down.

yea keep hoping on that restore dude.
My phone was unlocked when I backed it up and had to reset do to someone else's brainy idea which bricked it and now can't get it unlocked again.

Restore evidently....would have been nice to know...does not work if the phone becomes locked again, therefore the back up is completely useless and you have lost everything.

Restorefrom in zune is just as disasterous.
Error Code 801812EO and nobody from zune knows what's going on.

This thread has tragedy written all over it.

went through the thread, and didn't see this answered yet (unless i missed it), but as far as upgrading phones (since there are a lot of wave 2 phones coming out) will this allow me to restore settings upon switching to a new phone (going from focus to focus s)

@simbadogg: Yes, this app will allow you to restore data to a different phone (though it will have the same restrictions on which apps it can and can't access, and you'll need to re-install the apps in question).
