This program allow you to change screen resolution.
Program designed mostly for devices with wide screens - 800x480 or 400x240.
(Toshiba G900, SE Xperia X1, HTC Touch HD, HTC MAX 4G)
So if game or program don't work in wide mode you can try it in normal VGA/QVGA mode. Probably it will work.

Installation:
*Copy CAB files to device
*Install cab file
*Do soft reset
*Now you can see WVGAFIX4 in Programs.

Features:
*WVGA VGA SQVGA switch support
*WQVGA QVGA SQQVGA switch support
*You have black unused screen area on screen - no stretching performed.

Supported devices:
*Most devices with WM50, WM60, WM61, WM65

Limitations:
*You shouldn't rotate screen if not-original video mode applied.
*If you want use WVGAFIX4 in landscape mode, you should rotate screen in the right side, otherwise you will have touchscreen decalibration.
You should determine "good" side by experimental way.

no. it can only decrease resolution up to 480x480 for you. don't know if you need it....

When I start a VGA game, it displays well but with some black screen left on the top and at the bottom. With this I can stretch such apps to the whole screen?

no, you will be able to play to VGA games that didn't show the back pixels arround and that were impossible to launch

well it cant make the gps get signals faster which seem to be
what a lot of people complain about

I forgot about command line options

you can use
-800 -640 -480 for WVGA
-400 -320 -240 for WQVGA

no hermes is not vga or wvga so it dont benefit from this program
about good games then really depend on what people think is a good game
as my granny dont feel that doom2 is a good game but others might
