I've interop-unlocked my ATIV S.

The process is a little hokey, and relies on having the Samsung disagnosis app; we'll either need to find a way to get that onto other phones, or find a similar vuln in them.

It's possible, though, and I've done it. Stock TELUS Mobility ROM, standard AppHub dev unlock (should work with the free unlock).

I can install apps with both ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES, and with non-public capabilities (internal or private), and they run.

This is a beautiful, beautiful day. It's 5AM and pouring rain outside and I need to be at work in four hours, but I could hardly be happier!

Real thread forthcoming. For the moment, I need to dance around a little and see what else I can do with it.

I know the way to download other OEM's app onto your own devices, whatever OEM you are.

I also know if you set your system time to year 2213, run the app will show the Windows Phone Store link

So, if:

1. Samsung diagnosis app can be run on Lumia
2. Samsung diagnosis app exist in Windows Phone Store

i also succesfully installed some apps with : <Capability Name="ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES" />
so that went ok ...i am testing further with these apps

I also noticed that my MaxUnsignedApp went back to 10 after 30min.
so what i did :

change : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg
PortalUrlProd to : http://127.0.0.1
and : PortalUrlInt to : http://127.0.0.1

lets hope this prevent relock my unlocked device

and change : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install
to : MaxUnsignedApp 99999


and YES i can install/sideload ANY apps on my samsung ativ s

Wolf, I take it you tried looking it up with the Diagnostic App's GUID I presume? That's what I was going to try to do on my Lumia 920 but I don't know what the GUID is...

Right, I see... Unlike Nokia which updates their kind-of equivalent extras+info through the store. The Samsung Diagnostic app was last updated in January of this year so, that does make it kind of old... It certainly looks like it, but getting it installed on a Lumia will be the hard part.

What we need is someone with an Ativ S to go to that page and see if it is available for their device. Depending on what UserAgent/Device info they send back and forth, it might magically send back the extra info we need (the thing that enables the install button). I got wicked far using the the unpublished youtube app...I could download that to my 8x from the store, even though it was pulled. It always failed the license check and never completed installation though because I couldn't provide it with the "proper" SKU and checksum to allow it to register.

Edit:

This is what needs to be changed/added to the response to make it work on any phone:
1. <visibilityStatus>Unpublished</visibilityStatus> needs to be changed to <visibilityStatus>Live</visibilityStatus>
2. <isAvailableInStore>false</isAvailableInStore> needs to be changed to <isAvailableInStore>true</isAvailableInStore>
3. This section needs to be added:

the correct MediaInstanceId can be gleaned from using the "SKU" line contained elsewhere in the xml. Without the correct offerID, you can download the app, but it will fail to install due to the registration server not supplying a license. If someone can figure out the correct "offerID", we can install this app on any device.
