ok all fixed up now. ill post new files and instructions again here

it allows restoring loading of old version of ndtksvc that allows unrestricted writing, if you've installed the extras+info update that blocks it.

go to templates, and choose "restore ndtksvc", hit apply, then reboot. now you can load vcreg normally and write to registry again.

for the 950/XL, the process is a little different. go to templates, choose "restore ndtksvc 950", hit apply. connect phone by usb to PC, go to "My PC", open your phone, then in the root directory where you see the folders Documents,Music,Pictures,Videos,etc... make a new folder called "ndtk". now in this folder you need to put a ndtksvc.dll file that you extracted from another lumia rom, like the 1520. put this file ndtksvc.dll in this ndtk folder and reboot. open vcreg and apply interop unlock. how this works is, we tell the registry to load the ndtksvc.dll version from this folder instead of the prebaked restricted one that comes stock.

Rolled back to TH2 and deployed vcReg 1.5, applied Live Interop with success but I can't deploy the Tweaks app.

I decided to try this "guide" for my 950, but after reboot vcReg complained about missing capabilities.
It happened twice, and I'm starting to think that the provided dll doesn't work.

Please note that the device was just reset and it has not connected to network yet, so no updated and stuff like that.

Hey guys,

Quick question... i am stuck trying to retrieve a Whatsapp backup from my Lumia 925 wanting to place it on my Lumia 950.

Is this unlock method my only way to go, or are there easier ways to obtain fs access?

Okay, so after a lot of searching i finally found the offline version for WP SDK 8.0. Installed it so i got the App Deployment Tool.
Now i deployed the VcReg 1.2, went to Template and chose "Full interop unlock + Enable FS Access" in template.
I clicked apply and got a confirmation message saying "complete".
Rebooted the Lumia 925. No result to FS access. Power down/Power up the phone... still no FS access.

Can anyone please help me and explain how i should be able to see the Filesystem/MainOS files on the phone now?
All i want is to copy my whatsapp messages.db backup file so i can restore it on my Lumia 950.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

have you tried this? Not sure what you are running. WP8.1 or W10M

Both my 925 and 950 are running W10M.
Thanks for the tip! I did as you suggested and its working now!
Took a little longer for my phone to get recognised (and coincidentally my lockscreen froze the first time after i rebooted the phone...) but i have FS access now, great!
...Now to find that damn Whatsapp backup file....

Nope... my phone does not seem to have a C:\Data\SharedData\OEM\Public\WhatsApp folder, not even a \SharedData\ folder in C:\Data\

Any clues perhaps?

For me it was on the SDcard in plain site if I remember correctly. Did you check there?

Thanks but..thats the whole issue i am having mate... i own a Lumia 925. It doesn't have an SD-card slot.

So my problem still persists!

Does anyone know if the Full FS Access template grants access (read) rights to the following locations:
C:\Data\SharedData\OEM\Public\WhatsApp
C:\Data\programs\windowsapps\
According to several articles the Whatsapp messages.db backup should be on one of these locations for a WP device, yet these folders do not exist on my phone!
(....or maybe i just can't see them).

can someone help please, I have 950, I used vcreg1.5 tool and changed the path to ndtk, downloaded the ndtk file and created the folder to put it in, opened windows phone on my pc chose phone storage and put the folder and contents there. rebooted the phone, and vcreg wont open the template, also note I cannot load files.zip ...I get invalid error ?? Please don't let it be recovery number 3 flash lol, it takes hours to set up my stuff. error says error initializing. check if you have correct permissions (ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES). registry functions disabled. I'm suspecting I need that files package??? ...but it wont deploy

vcREG is a registry editor for lumia windows phones that has SYSTEM level access to the registry. the tool also has the ability to unlock all app capabilities for third party apps(interop unlock), and give SYSTEM level access to most of the filesystem through MTP.

for those who need i have patched CustomWPSystem_0600 to support mixradio.
-install mix radio on the sdcard.
-install CustomWPSystem on the device.
-put vcREG_MIX_RADIO_bootstrap.xap on the sdcard the run the app.

Now that MixRadio is no longer supported in the Windows Store...is there a NEW workaround for vcREG? I just bought a new Lumia 640XL Dual Sim with a 64GB SD Card. I love Here Drive+ and I have successfully used this procedure in the past on my Lumia 1320.

the 640XL supports the latest Windows 10 Mobile versions which allow you to set the maps to be saved onto the SDCard. You do not need to hack the registry for that.

02/08/2016 I solved my problem via flashing an old ROM (CYAN to be exact one) for using interop unlock method it worked only problem is i can't revert to main phone memory for normal use but i don't care at all bc i use a 16GB sdcard I can help anyone just send a message

Maybe try the camera app? I know it sounds strange, but at least for w10m the Store listing of the native camera app says it has access to interop capabilities. Don't know if this is what you are searching for, and it may very well be different with the wp8.1 camera app, but thought i would mention it here anyway, the chance is there...
