Find this interesting charging analysis from here, and thought i should share!

We just report Xiaomi Mi 4c information today earlier. Now, Let’s check the charging performance on Xiaomi Mi 4C.

Because our test sample is still on the way, should get tomorrow, the following test result are coming from our friend @chongdiantou, All credit to him :)

Here is the usb type c port in Mi 4c, and you need to connect your charger via type c cable to charge it.

Here is the type c cable which included in the package, the length is about 1.2m.

Xiaomi also include a USB TYPE C Adapter in case you forget to take your type c cable, and you can connect this adapter with your Mi 4c, and use the regular usb cable to charge your Mi 4c. But it is really NOT convenience for people to charger via the adapter.

Here is the photo for the stock charger in xiaomi mi 4c:

This stock charger model is MDY-03-EB, input is 100-240v, output support 5V/2A, 9V/1.2A and 12V/1A, total 12w. It’s follow the qualcomm quick charge 2.0 standard, however, the total watt is lower than ours’ 18W quick charger. and this is the same charger as you seen on Mi3 and Mi4 and Mi note.

The sample we test still use preload MIUI 6, and the battery level is 60% when we do the following test.

First we test with the original Mi 4c charger, with screen on, we get this;

With screen off, we get this:

With screen on,you get 9V/1.12A, and with screen off, it change to 8.98v/0.99a, it’s a little surprised, in our charging analysis for Oneplus two, we found if you turn off the screen, the charging current will get bigger, while in xiaomi mi4c, it get smaller.

Update: We just found this charging time test from another site:

They use the original xiaomi stock qc2.0 charger, and It need about 2 hours 10 mins to charge from 8% to 100%.

Then, we use the xiaomi ZMI QC2.0 charger to test:

The ZMI qc2.0 charger have the same output as ours, 5V/2A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A, total 18W. However, the mi 4c also just accept 8.96V/1.16A.

So we can confirm xiaomi mi 4c make some current limits.Now we can’t know the limits are in kernels or the hardware.

Since no matter which quick charge 2.0 chargers you are using, the output just almost 10w, how about to try the regular 5V/2A charger? Then, next, we decide to test with Oneplus two charger:

Oneplus two offer a 5V/2A regular charger, In our charging analysis, it can give 5V/1.98A to OPT. so what’s about in the xiaomi mi 4c?

Even the charger can offer 5V/2A without problem, but xiaomi 4c just accept 1amp current. So If your charger don’t support qc2.0 quick charge, it can just give 5W output to xiaomi mi 4c. :( This is really annoying. we don’t understand why xiaomi limit current in 5V/2A regular power adapter.

Here is the first part of Xiaomi MI 4c charging analysis, we will test the total charging time from 0%-100% and compare with our tronsmart qc2.0 chargers. and will try to find the reasons why xiaomi limit the current.

But now, from the analysis, If you want quick charge your Mi 4c., you have to get qc2.0 chargers.

Xiaomi have one wall charger included in the package, If you want a backup qc2.0 wall charger, you can check our WC1Q model:

http://www.tronsmart.com/products/ts-wc1q-rapid-wall-charger

We also have multi-port QC2.0 chargers, check here:

Among all of our accessories, We would love to give you a BIG RECOMMEND for our CCFC car charger, which is the world’s unique Type C + Quick Charge 2.0 support car charger

Hi, I have Mi4C... and I have a "problem", I tried Anker and Aukey wall charger using quickcharge 2.0 technology.. But I had some issue.
I used till now the original battery charger with its usb cable. I usually charge the phone turning it off... When it gets to 100% I unplug the phone and then turn on .. that's normal ok... But I noticed that using another compatible charger that uses Qualcoom 2.0 quick charge technology.. once the phone gets 100% and I unplugg the charger my phone boots by itself.. Why does it happen with this charger and not with the original one???

As I don't have any measurement tools, I can only state things based on my observation, but I see no noticeable difference between charging time using xiaomi's charger and a noname 5V/2A charger - ie. in both cases an idle phone (system on, wifi on, standard processes running in background) gets fully charged in about 2:15 to 2:30. Currently I'm on holidays with a standard 5v/2a charger, using some cheapo usb A to micro-usb, a noname microUSB-usbC converter and charging time remains the same every time I charge. Most probably the results may vary with different cables - maybe in some cases the charging power is purposely reduced by phone electronics in order not to fry the charger if it's get recognized as regular one.

I also use a car charger that's capable of 5A/1A and charging there lasts ages; never drove sooo long to get the phone fully charged
I tried a Lumia usb charger 5A/750mA and then it takes about 5 hours to get mi4c fully charged

regular users - try Ampere app, it works well, at least with CM12.1. the one shows charging at about 1400-1500mA with the above mentioned setup,post your results with different cables / chargers

for me guys xiaomi mi4c didin't have quick charge.
I have note 4 and he have battery 3220mAh (thats mean bigger should take longer to charge) and even when i use him (have bigger screen loosing more energy) and i charge from around 20% i see my procentage of battery is growing. With xiaomi almost nothing....

But ok lets speak about quick charge.
Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 2.0 Tech
Developed by Qualcomm, the proprietary technology solution is built into devices powered by Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM processors, including the 200, 400, 600 and latest 800 series (including 810). With a compatible phone, laboratory tests show that Quick ChargeTM can charge a typical 3300mAh mobile battery from empty to 60%-75% in as little as 30 minutes.
then sorry guys but in 30 min u have nothing in xiaomi.

i like this phone but about charging is not like should be

I don't know what's faulty on yours. Mine can reach 60% in 1 hour with the supplied charger and cable.
Sorry but meybe u didint see but quick charge 2.0 means
30min =60-75%
your is
60min = 60%
THATS MEANS FOR U IS QUICK BUT FOR REAL HOW SHOULD BE IS TWICE SLOWER
Im not telling like charging is crap just i have note 4 6 months and charging is much quicker... thats all....

And start to play some games on xiaomi when u have 20% and than tell me how quick u will charge your phone.... Meybe for u is quick because u never had before real quick charge 2.0. I had samsung galaxy s5 and was normal but after when i bought note 4 and i was plaing on phone and the same time charging my battery was really fast charge to 60-70%

You're drunk, even Qualcomm never admits that. Here's official Qualcomm video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut6lemu_N64
It uses Nexus 6 which has 3220 mAh battery. The snapshot takes:
20 min -> 26%
30 min -> 38%
40 min -> 50%
Compared to my 60 min -> 60 %, the progression looks comparable. Now state a prove for your claim.
And start to play some games on xiaomi when u have 20% and than tell me how quick u will charge your phone.... Meybe for u is quick because u never had before real quick charge 2.0. I wouldn't do that. Why charging while playing on low battery? That could definitely kill your device if the wrong thermal config is used because the device will get really hot compared to if you do it on >50% battery. It seems like you're the one who doesn't understand how to charge correctly.

For whatever reason Xiaomi limits the charging on this device. Quick charge 2.0 according to the official qualcomm specs is 0-60% charge in 1hr. I can only get 0-40% charge in an hour. Without the kernel sources, there is nothing that can be done to modify the charging rates. Anyway, using the charger that came with the phone, I can charge from 0-100% in about 2 hrs and 15 mins which is good enough for me

You might want to scroll down a bit and read:
Remember, a Quick Charge 2.0 certified power adapter is required to charge at the speeds Quick Charge 2.0 is designed to allow. Different Quick Charge 2.0 implementations may result in different charging times.
Also check https://www.qualcomm.com/documents/quick-charge-device-list, Mi4c is clearly listed (on page 2) and thus certified by Qualcomm.

I know xiaomi says 2.0 but only what i try to tell u quick charge compare to my note 4 is not quick....

What i try to say its good to tell to people quick charge 2.0 are sometimes completly different...
I was thinking when i was buing that phone will be the same like note 4 but is big different.
And IF somebody thinking about buing this phone he should now its not charging in 30min 50% of your battery

I was trying note 4 charger and xiaomi charger and now i order this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281867423580?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

And how u see supouse to charging in 30min and i understand couple % less but that not working how should

It is working how it should, because it is working the way the manufacturer calibrated it to. All hardware is different.
You can't expect everything QC 2.0 to charge at the same rate of 60% in 30 min or whatever. If only because 60%/2000mAh is half of 60%/4000mAh for instance and rates will differ depending on the current capacity etc etc.

Reseting charger when it overheats (?)

I had an interesting experience with the Xioami Mi 4c charger when on a recent vacation in South East Asia.

I purchased a 4G (LTE) sim for the vacation and I was extensively using the phone as a wifi hotspot for my wife and my other wifi capable devices (laptops, tablets). Because we could use the Internet for some time, while using the Xioami I mistakenly would keep the phone plugged into the charger so not to run down the smartphone battery. Then on one hot day, after using the phone as a hotspot with charger plugged in (and charger was very warm) the charger failed to charge the phone anymore, and at that time I was only able to charge the Xiaomi via my computer with the USB cable (which is much slower to charge). A few days went by and the charger still did not work.

So I decided to try a technique that worked with my old Asus TF101 transformer's charger.

I wrapped the Xiomi Mi 4c charger inside two layers of plastic bags, and placed the charger (thus wrapped) into a freezer overnight. I put it in the plastic bags to protect it against humidity. The next day I took the charger out of the freezer, took it out of the plastic bags, and let it sit for a few hours so any humidity would evaporate. I then tried the charger with the phone and it worked fine with the phone, charging at the same speed as I have observed in the past.

Since then, I have not kept the Xiomi Mi 4c charging with the charger at the same time as I used it as a wifi hot spot. Instead I plug the Xiaomi into my laptop computer to provide power when using the Xiaomi Mi 4c as a hotspot, and this works much better.
