Ok so I have had a little luck......
I attempted to make a factory cable and sort of failed so I bought one off ebay.
It arrived in the post today and I plug it in to the tablet, then plug in to my PC and straight away the tablet turns on and goes straight to:

AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Boot Failure)
0A.6C (sha-c79f1fc, 2011-12-19 11:35:56)
eMMC Info: Size 32G

Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0

Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

Invalid CG HAB (CG: mbr, status: 0X0056)
The fact it now comes up with Battery OK, instead of battery low I presume means that the factory cable is working as it should.
I also managed to find and download the "1.6.0M-281.4-PASTEM_TABLET1PASTUAUTEL_fastboot.xml.zip" file which I believe is the Telstra Australia Fastboot file for the Xoom 2 MZ616.

The problem now is that my computer doesn't seem to recognise it....
Both "fastboot devices" and "adb devices" return nothing.
And it still does say Connect USB Cable on the tablet.

Before you ask.....yes, I do have the Motorola drivers installed, and I also tried getting RSD lite to see it with no luck (although I will admit I don't know how to use RSD)

I AM able to (leaving the factory cable plugged in) switch the device off, the hold volume keys and press power to get to the boot mode selection menu with available boot modes being:
Normal Powerup
Recovery
AP Fastboot
BP SBF Flash
BP Only
BP HW Diag & Boot AP
BP Tools
I think I have tried all of these modes and they either hang on the Red Moto logo, or they go to a variation on the Fastboot screen I wrote above, in any case, fastboot or adb wont recognise it.

Any ideas or suggestions?

EDIT: I fixed it! :)

I un-installed the Motorola driver then re-installed it and my PC then recognised it and I was able to run the Fastboot flash sequence. After it did it's thing, it rebooted and came up with an Android robot with spinning cogs, then it got stuck in the boot loop.....but I now regained the ability to charge it normally.
I turned it off, and then waited for it to get 20% charge, then I tried booting recovery mode....no good, came up with an exclamation in a triangle.
I then ran the other batch file with the erase user data sequence included in it, and after rebooting this time, I unplugged the factory cable and let it boot normally.
After about 5 minutes of Motorola logo it was asking for the SIM pin, entered it and....voila....working again!
