I have yet to lust over another tablet. It took a long time to enjoy my xoom. Honeycomb was pretty rough on it. Not until ics did it become usable and always around. Part of the longevity for me is team eos's hard work. Now that they're starting to finally hit some limitations with the xoom (although somehow figuring their way around these limitations) I'm starting to see the writing on the wall. I will probably keep the xoom for the size and get an n7 for portability and to keep up to date with technology. Unless I drag my feet and something else comes out. I was halfway waiting on windows to see what they offered but I'm guessing it may be a while before I look that way again. If ever.

Yeah, I think I may be going the other direction. Sell the Vz 4G Xoom and buy the Nexis 7

I chose xoom 32gb/3g hdmi out over N7 simply for more options on the xoom. as said HDMI out, larger screen, SD slot and build! Also parts are pretty cheap and easy to change (2 screws and the back slides off!).
I don't play games so don't *really* need the extra N7 power. Also read a LOT of broken screens on N7, manufacture defect, people just come back to them and the screen has popped (design flaw - some class action suit going on i believe as google refusing to fix!).
For a 3G device (easy to upgrade to 4G as said fixing is easy), with wifi and HDMI/SD, micro USB and a space frame made out of aluminium its still holds it's own. In fact I sold a new Samsung Tab 2 10.1 to get the xoom

...maybe im mad lol :)

^Hope you enjoy your new Xoom :D
Did you already root it? The best thing about Xoom IMO is the development ability it has :D. Also I think it has enough power for many stuff as you already mentioned ;).

I'd have to say that my Xoom has been a blast. I did the conversion from 3g to 4g and use it on trips on Verizon's network. Was on eos software and moved over to cm10.1 nightlies. Runs fantastic. I'm sure a quad core tablet will run faster but I am honestly pretty happy with my Xoom. I personally like the screen and the feel of the device. Prob not getting rid of it anytime soon and having 4g when I need it is great.

One of the things I love about the Xoom is how fast it charges and how long it holds a charge. I dread getting a new table that will take 2-3x as long to charge.

Tonight I'll be giving my XOOM LTE to my mom. I did make her promise that she would not go past her data allowance downloading porn (I am keeping the data plan for her.)

I have been using a Surface Pro 128 and I love it. There are some things on the XOOM that I really miss (like all of the widgets I had set up. The tablet was a great dashboard for everything.) The Surface also doesn't have a good way of getting notifications for non-Microsoft stuff from the Start screen. If I want it to do all of the things I do with the XOOM, I have to be in desktop mode. I don't mind that, it's just that the Metro interface is so much faster and could be more seamless.

I love having the real OneNote and the way the device interacts with the pen just can't be beaten yet. There is a cost and the battery doesn't perform nearly as well but for me it is worth it. It is kind of what I expected of the XOOM in the first place. It definitely held me over until the Surface was ready. If they made a version of Office that performed just as well in android, I wouldn't have given the XOOM away (not even to my mom!) I really hope she doesn't eat up my data downloading porn...

The surface isn't a tablet, its a slate. I can already configure switches via console with my Xoom. It's too bad vmware wont get off their rear. My notebook is no longer portable, so i'm need of decent mobile solution for vsphere. The surface seems like an interesting device, i have always wanted a slim line slate. If you can ditch win8 for Win7, it might be a winner.

What is the difference between a tablet and a slate? What can you do in Win 7 that you cant do in 8? Other than press a button in the lower left part that has "Start" printed on it?

A slate is a real pc, a tablet is not. This is why you cant run windows software on the RT. Microsoft made a huge mistake by not making this distinction clear from the get go. As for win8, its a complete abomination. My rant on that subject could take up an entire page here. Needless to say, I refuse to upgrade my MCSA to 2012 because of it.

I have the Fujitsu Q702 11.6" tablet with i5 and 256 GB hard drive. It had Windows 7 and I upgraded it to Windows 8 Pro. I have to disagree with you about Windows 8. I love it. I have it on my tablet, laptop, and desktop. Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue) will add a start button when it is released in the fall.

Hey guys! Just want to add 2 cents here. As you can see on my Tapatalk sig, I got s Nexus 10, which is great, I know that Nexus and Xoom has more than 1 year difference, but I want to make a quick comparison between them. So...

First of all: why did I get a Nexus if I already had a Xoom? The answer is simple: my mom accidentally broke my Xoom screen, so now it's plugged on my TV only :p, so she bought me the Nexus to replace it.
Would I get the Nexus if that didn't happen? No. I really liked Xoom, and didn't think it was needed to replace, until that happened. Xoom is still a great device, I can't ever deny it! But we can see with the time passing that it's age is already showing, I don't think it's time to change now, probably those who want to change now won't make a good deal, next year it will already appear to be more outdated, so it's better then to change. The Nexus 10 is an excellent device, covers up Xoom in every single aspect, but one, which may still be a deal breaker for some, the lack of sdcard, which is already a common knowledge.

So, what can I say about comparing the two, as it's a "Xoom tablet VS Other tablet discussion"?
The screen of Nexus is much better, okay, it's newer than Xoom, but as Xoom was a prototype Android tablet (at least that's how I see GED devices), we see that it's screen isn't all that amazing. For some time ago it was the best you can find, but now it's becoming something not too polished.
Speed is a point that makes me interest in this comparison, my Nexus boots in 15-20 sec, and doesn't lag (even running Linux in background), also it can run amazing graphic games and full HD videos without any gag. IMO Xoom is still a blazing fast device! Even it taking 3-4x more to boot, can't okay full HD videos, etc. You can clearly see that it still has much power, Tegra 2 is outdated, but it can still run sine high end tegra-only games that show that Xoom still has some power behind it. I used to use Linux on Android on it as well, I wasn't able to have a full nice experience due to some lag, but it was completely usable.
The form of Nexus is amazing, the rubber back and the front speakers are very useful, while Xoom had a more premium feel for being aluminium made, the problem is that aluminium was easier to slip off your hand, I had no problems as I had a case, but it was not too easy, differently from Nexus which it gets almost glued to your hand lol. I also have a case for my Nexus and it is comfortable and great to carry, but in comparison to Xoom's portfolio what would I say? The Nexus case I got (poetic case) is great to carry, very comfortable and includes a magnetic Bluetooth keyboard, which is very useful for me (who writes stories), BUT it has only one point of view, while the Xoom portfolio case is great for that, it's lighter, slimmer and has 3 view points, the thing is, Xoom got a more media vised case, while the one I got for Nexus looks like a more professional case.
One thing that annoyed me on Nexus was charging the battery, Google/Samsung disappointed me when I discovered that it was charged via USB, it takes ages to charge and if I use while charging it doesn't charge and even maybe discharge lol, while as you may know, Xoom charges very fast and it keeps constant, also I can plug my external HD or play games with my PS3 controller, while charging, and Nexus can't do that, or you charge or you copy files.
The development section of Nexus is pretty good as well Xoom is, as both are development devices I can't say much, because the two has amazing developers working and a good sized community, it's true that Xoom is decreasing as people are now changing their tablets, but probably it will stagnate at a good size.
The Nexus has a 9000mAh battery, which is great, and even with the stunning 2560x1600 screen lasts good 10 hours :), Xoom has also a great battery stamina, I don't recall now the capacity, but it was great and lasted 8-10 hours as well :).

Conclusions:
The Nexus 10 is overall a device much better than Xoom, you get a better screen, better processor, etc. But it has some fails when compared to it's antecessor, like the lack of sdcard (and as I mentioned earlier it can be a deal breaker for some) and the charging. Also it costs much more than Xoom nowadays, so depending of the person it may influence the idea, as Xoom still covers much of the tablet needs. If you asked to me: is it worth to change Xoom now? I'd say: "Wait for the next Nexus, then we see, Xoom is still a great solid device, and still has potential, unless you broke it, hold with the device and change for the next Nexus of even the new Nexus for next year."

Wow... Huge post... He he, but that's it, a quick overview about a comparison of my two tablets, the old and the new. Xoom and Nexus 10 :). Hope you enjoyed :D.

I've finally decided on getting the 2nd gen Nexus 7 which is supposed to come out this month. I'm sure I'll use my xoom for certain things but Web browsing is starting to get tedious.

I enjoy my Xoom every day (MZ601) but I realize that it will have to be replaced within a year or so.
What tablet would be a good choice?
Wait for the next Nexus 10 ;), the current one is great' but as you want to buy next year...

I downloaded Bubble UPnP on mine, even without the screen working, I plugged on HDMI, so I can watch many stuff there, also I'm thinking about formatting and loading it with only movies and videos, so it will be much better. So, it's now my media centre, as I can let it open on my bedroom and watch a video stored on it on my N10, while lunching.

still waiting for a decent 10" tablet with memory card support and 3g.
I guess Google won't be your option, since Galaxy Nexus they don't support SD card anymore, and I guess there will be no 10" with 3g, because if the following: I have a S4 and a Nexus 10, I don't need 3g on both, just share 3g from S4 to my N10. But I know that it can be an issue to some people, as not all phones have WiFi Hotspot, however as things go they will all have IMO. Probably you can look for the next Asus Transformer ;).

Thanks XxLordxX for your advice;

Wait for the next Nexus 10 , the current one is great' but as you want to buy next year...

But the Nexus 10 is not for sale in the Netherlands, something to do with the Playstore not being fully functional in our country.:(
