So I'm trying to find out if the Xoom will be able to eventually support the Micro SDXC standard. Is it hardware limited or will future software updates give it the capacity to fully utilize these cards? I can't find anything on Moto's spec site for the Xoom in regards to SDXC support and my Google Foo is not turning up this specific tidbit.

This seems like a good thread to eventually house the info so I thought I'd ask here. :D
As far as I know the SDXC is software based, so theoretically any system that has a SD slot that can use SDHC cards can take SDXC after a driver update.

The casing of the WiFi and 3G models are the same...so you have a slot for a SIM card on both. The difference is that on the WiFi version there is no 4G antenna...so the slot is good for storing something the size and shape of a SIM card but that is about it. However, just above that is where you insert the microSD card, behind the same cover.

If you need it to support 4G data or you will return it...then why did you buy a WIFI ONLY version to begin with?

I rooted my atrix and am using barnacle as well as two other hotspot applications but my xoom does not recognize any of them does any one have any suggestions? I don't want to return this great device but I think I am going to have to because there's no point in paying for the service when I have a phone that enables a hotspot.
I use Barnacle too and at first it did not work until I selected to skip wpa_supplicant in settings. I had no luck with wifi tether and Barnacle has been all that I found to work for me on my Xoom.

a cool trick that i learned (dont know if its been mentioned) but when u wanna remove a icon on the home screen hold it with your left finger then put down ur right finger near the remove button and let go of ur left finger without dragging it =P That is helpful if ur holding it with both hands and dont feel like lifting up your hands

Please help...possible brick

[
Q: My Xoom is locked up / stuck on the Fast-boot / Dual Core screen - any ideas?
A: hold the Up Volume + Power button, this will reset the Xoom.

Q: What do I do if my Xoom is bricked? Is there any way to save myself from a very expensive paperweight?
A: If your Xoom is possibly bricked, then grab the SBF file from Multiupload here. To use the file, grab the latest version of RSD Lite (4.9) from Multiupload. Credit goes to LegionTHEFecalExcretion for the SBF File.

Hi, I have possibly bricked my xoom...the good news is still goes into recovery, unfortunatley, i have no idea how to fix it....

ok, here are the chain of events...last night I unlocked and rooted via adb...worked flawlessly..
Installed Tiamat-Xoom-Rom-2.0-Manta-Ray...worked flawlessly, i did do a nandroid backup
installed the update 2.1....worked flawlessly
i pushed the ad-hoc via /wpa_supplicant...it was working last night

during my lunch today i fired up the xoom and connected my wifi tether from my revo to the xoom and I could only go to websites and could not access data through apps...here is where I screwed up...I flashed a zip of the ad-hoc and that didn't work either...Then I screwed up more and tryed to reflash the tiamat rom and rebooted.....
fires up the the dual core logo and stays there...
tried a recovery of my backup and the boot recovers but get error message on all the others backed up....

I can reboot into into recovery, and get adb access in recovery, but everytime i try to go to fast boot it knocks off my usb access and gets stuck...cant push anything after that.

anyone have any ideas how I can save this thing? any help would be so appreciated!

What you did doesn't sound too bad...When you say you can get into recovery, do you mean CWM recovery? If you did all of your additional flashing through CWM recovery, you are probably not bricked. Just do a complete wipe in recovery (user data/factory reset and the caches) and see if you can reboot. If so, you could reflash your rom and kernel if wanted. I thought that the ability to tether was built into the rom. I could be mistaken.

If this doesn't work I or someone else will help with the next steps...

you can still enter recovery mode and reflash the stock images. Just check out the return to stock thread for info.
Don't relock your bootloader unless your sure that it boots without any problems.

heres a tip for those of you using clockworkmod recovery to perform nandroid backups: create a file named " .hidenandroidprogress" in the /microsd/clockworkmod directory, NOT in /sdcard. recovery will read this file and will omit the content listing and progress bar during backups, which will drastically improve the backup speed.

Cheers!!

About video playback

I will no longer be transcoding my videos for playback on the xoom.
Just found out there is finally a proper player that plays normal 720p mkv h264 files with ac3/dts and doesn't stutter or go out of sync. [finally...]

Have only tried on a couple of movies myself - but the general feedback seems to be this is the video player we've been waiting for :)
