Xoom Wi-Fi not checking for updates

Hi all. I have just inherited a Xoom Wi-Fi, and for some odd reason it won't check for updates, and it says that the software is current, but also says it hasn't checked for updates since 6/15/11. The "Check Now" button lights up when I hit it, but nothing seems to happen.

I would rather not root if at all possible.

Current specs:
Android Version - 3.1
Kernel version - 2.6.36.3-gc2bee64 [email protected] #1
Build number - HMJ37

Did you try clearing Google services framework cache?
