Giffgaff certainly sounds like a good deal, especially for a smart phone. It all depends on how much 3G bandwidth you expect to get through in a month.

Personally I've opted to start off with "3" Pay As You Go data-only SIM cards - 3GB or 3 months, whichever comes first, for the princely sum of about £7.30 on eBay or Amazon Marketplace. Obviously the lack of texts and talktime allowance is not an issue on the Xoom, the only question is - how much 3G data will I want to use in practice? If it's less than 3GB a month then I'm doing alright!
Yeh, I forget sometimes that not everyone is looking for the largest data allowance available as I do, but I like to stream a lot and download stuff from my NAS at home over the internet.

As for texting, I'm pretty sure theres no reason you shouldn't be able to text from the XOOM. If the app is there you should be able to use it.

Hey guys, got my XOOM finally, turns out they did have it yesterday when i went there, they're just useless. So, I can't get Tapatalk Pro to work, just stays at receiving from server forever. Anyone else got it working on their 3G XOOM?

Guys, I'm going to need some help from those of you with the UK 3G XOOM, I'v bricked mine trying to root it and now I can't get it to boot, what a pita.

I can't seem to find files for the UK version anywhere to try fix it so I might need dumps off of someones device if they don't mind.

Thanks.

Since the stock firmware for reflashing/relocking the U.S. XOOM is officially available here:

http://developer.motorola.com/produ...utm_source=supportforums&utm_term=unlockboard

I've now asked when these will be available for the European XOOM models.
I'll update here, as soon as I get an answer.

Thanks, although I'm not counting on getting it for the EU version ever so I'm looking to find a community solution. Talk about a **** way to end the week. Nice new bricked XOOM that won't even turn off either.

EDIT: I Got it to boot now but it's using the Verizon system and boot so it thinkgs it's a Verizon tab, obviously nothing works properly. If Anyone with their 3G one has a bit of time I would be endlessly grateful if you could get me boot.img and system.img so I can fix it. I have No idea when I might be able t get the stock one off Moto if ever. Thanks

Hmm

I was a bit concerned about this when mine arrived, I noticed it was not sealed in any way the box just opens straight up.

Those of us who pre-ordered can refund under the distance selling act but I don't know where you stand legally in your case.

They are not allowed to deny you a refund - you have 21 days to return it, no questions asked. Ask to speak to the store manager and if you don't go anywhere speak to the Office of Fair Trading - they have a consumer service available here
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Consumerrights/index.htm

and they operate a phone service for you to ask them about your rights. I used it before and they were of good advice. I don't think they are allowed to deny you a refund if the device is in its original condition.

cheers mate! will definitely take a look on it first...
yes it is their policy -- if you change your mind in 21 days , Currys would offer you a refund
so i changed my mind and decided to get a refund, the staff told me that there are fingerprints/scratches on the screen protector that means i have used it

i cant take it out and have a look before changing my mind?! what policy it is...

In which case replace the screen protector then take it back to another Currys or PC World - when I bought mine from them they said I could return to any of the 2 chains. If your device is in original condition with no damage then you should not have a problem. try another store if they are getting difficult

it isn't even the "screen protector" that we have to buy it...just the sticker on the screen comes with the Xoom
arghhh that really pissed me off... would try again at another store after the bank holiday

Legally you can't get a refund because you don't like the product so sorry dude your out of luck it may be their policy to offer a refund but its their policy and such at their discreation, you should have went into a shop to try one first to see if you liked it

Nah that's wrong/old info mate, I use it myself.

You need to manually set up the APN, here are my settings:

Apps->Settings->Wireless&Networks->MobileNetworks->Access Point Names->New APN (Top right):

Name: giffgaff
APN: giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN Type: default

Save it(top right)->Go back, and tick the little green box next to it, and you're good to go. Enjoy.

P.S. If I didn't mention a setting, it's blank
P.P.S : Some people mentioned you may ned to put it in a phone first to activitate it then move it over, I'm not sure if this is correct or not.
P.P.P.S: They give out microsims for iPads so there is no reason they can't be used in tablets.

Nice one mate thanks, using those settings it's working fine, just set up a portable wifi hotspot too and works great!!

I am getting a bit of ghosting on the screen though which is a shame, but loving the honeycomb experience though!

No problem. What do you mean ghosting? The widgets have a ghosting effect when you drag them but I'v not witnessed any other ghosting due to the screen.
