Voodoo Root JellyBean 4.1.2

I was able to keep root using Voodoo Root Keeper going from ICS to JB ota. Just one minor issue, the apps that were already installed have root access. ie SafeStrap, Root Explorer, Titanium Backup but any new app installed isn't granted root access. Any suggestions to correct this issue would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to keep the chance of downgrading after updating to 4.1.2, you will have to edit the *.xml file and remove cdt.bin flash line from the xml file. This way, your cdt.bin partition will stay the same and you will be able to downgrade to 4.0.4 or honeycomb as you wish.

I'm downloading the fastboot file 4.1.2 xyboard, as it is the last of its kind from motorola ( omap4/motorola ), maybe it have some information in it. Maybe...

Thank you for the reply. Yes I have SuperUser installed and
the apps that are already listed in superuser have root
access. When I try to update SuperUser or install a new
app thats isn't already listed in SuperUser that needs root
access, the apps says I'm not rooted. But Titanium Backup,
Root Explorer, Nova Luacher and the other apps that are
already listed in Superuser have root access. The error I get
is "Could not acquire root privileges. Attempt was made using
the /system/bin/su command." I used Root explorer to check
that su is located in the /system/bin folder and it is. Its
really a minor issues because I can use Titanium Backup and
Root Explorer which is 90% of the apps that I use that need
root access.

Sir..in reference to your suggestion of modifying/removing the cdt.bin flash line from the xml file..

Are you referencing the FXZ (fastboot) in your post here..I have downloaded, unzipped this..and the "default_flash.xml" is the only xml included..and opening the xml..I see no such cdt.bin flash line included..what am I missing..or are you referencing another FXZ..?

I have three more XYB's and this seems to be an option I would like to have, to downgrade, if I wish..I have one on JB..without Root to this point..and the device seems helpless without Root, (example) Titanium, Root Explorer, SafeStrap and more..

Anyhow..would you give more detail, what I'm overlooking..no expert here..:)

thank you very much..

Maybe make sure you have the latest SuperUser, or maybe uninstall the SU and reinstall..not sure if this is a fix..maybe reboot also..

But..I have had apps that where previously installed..that needed Root access, and have un-installed them with "Easy Uninstaller Pro" then went to the Play Store, installed again, and they work fine..I have also had Root Explorer do similar, I un-installed Root Explorer, reinstalled and all is well, I'm absolutely no expert, just mentioning what I have ran into before, and was the solution, maybe ask a Pro.. :) if you feel my suggestion is not for you..either way, I hope you have a resolution soon.. :)

Hello again, i posted that before i actually downloaded the file and to my surprise, there's no cdt.bin partition being flashed during 4.1.2 fastboot xml, however if you check the OTA folder, you'll see various cdt.bin depending on internal memory size. How to bypass cdt_bin flashing ? Since it's in OTA folder that means it will be flashed within the radio partition, so removing radio partition line from the xml should do the job.

But when i look further into OTA folder, there's a file called "ext4_parts_to_fixup" which tells the device to format the cache, pds, preinstall, system, userdata partitions to EXT4 format. Anyway, i can't give you my word if the radio partition removing line would do the trick. You could test and see yourself. In the worst scenario, you can flash the device with the unedited file and get 4.1.2 without downgrade ability.

Better keep a backup of root with Voodoo OTA rootkeeper before flashing anything.

Here you go by TBH's theorangeremix !

fastboot-p2_pasteur-pasteur_mmi-user-4.1.2-9.8.2OT_127-127-release-keys-cid2-Verizon-US.tar.gz
you are a genius. I updated my MZ617 through fastboot files and then reset the device, full wipe. the 4.1.2 works like a charm. I am a happy camper. Now I need root to get rid off the junk.

If you can't root it with other known tools, you can try VROOT from CHINA, a rootkit program that's run in windows. It's one click root tool, i don't guarantee if it's knownt to be unharmful. However It's pretty popular so i think it wouldn't hurt to try if there's no other way. This post will help you replace chinese root tool with superuser from koush.
