At june 2021, i had an android update (don't remember what version) and after two days my fingerprint sensor stopped working. Was totally gone from everywhere. Came here, tried activitylauncher and from there the app told that "enrollment time limit reached" immediately. I had warranty, send my phone to repair and it came back with new motherboard. Only explanation i got there was that it was broken. Phone worked like a charm and cost me 0€ so i was happy with it.

But again, 2 days ago, i installed new update. Android 11 (55.2.a.4.332) and today my fingerprint sensor vanished. All apps using it changed to useing some alternative method, its not in security settings and can't find it in tests either. And now my warranty is up.

I really don't know what to make of this. I can't believe that system update keeps breaking my motherboard (i would believe software bug but i already got one motherboard change free of charge) but the chances of coinsidence is pretty high too. Whats you take on this?

Update; december 30th i had an update to the sony support app, and the patchnotes mentioned something about new fingerprint test. So i downloaded the update, and right after my fingerprint sensor worked. Like nothing was wrong with it ever. Tests scanned the fingerprint reader and it was a pass, not a single missread. It worked about 24 hours like a charm, until december 31, and the situation is exatly same now as mentioned before.

So, after all, it is a software issue but what the hell? How hard is to fix?

My fingerprint sensor is also working since 30th of december, but I didn't download the sony app udpate as I never do it since I don't use it.
Still working fine by now, I'm just so used to have it broken after a year I totally forgot to use it now.

Interesting. Might this be some sort of time and date related issue? Try setting your date to December 30th 2021 if your sensor doesn't work, reboot, and check it again.

From what I saw, there was an update of the Sony maintenance app too (in addition to the suite) and since I didn't got the possibility to not do it, it could be that.
If the fingerprint sensor start to not work again, I'll try the date thing, but I guess it would be for every unit if it was the case.

Oh my god, this worked!!! I put 30th december, auto update to date off and reboot and the fingerprint scanner worked just like that! *Mind blown*

What the actual ****, Sony??
I've destroyed my own phone because of this trying to replace the sensor (welp, by own bad, lesson learned). But still, how could they not notice and fix something that stupid?
Also now I remember that it stopped working for me around the Dec 31 2020.

I think we need to dig deeper. Always living on December 30 doesn't seem like a good fix for me.

Also OP, if you're still reading, please edit the thread so it says "Fix found".

I would also like to know what can cause this problem, and see how long this fix works. I suspect that if i put auto update to the date, it will stop working but if i set correct date and keep autodate off, it might be viable solution. I already encountered problems while banking with my phone, because my date didn't match my banks server clock.

Last time fingerprint reader went offline 24h later, so i will see what happens now. After that i set correct date and will updete everyone on this stupid, but so intriguing issue

We should not jump to conclusion, it could be a small update that rolled on the 30th, making it works for a moment, and then some start to bug again, and the reboot helped reactivate it. Like it does a year ago.
If it was only a date thing, why would mine start working on the 30th and still continue to work when other stopped? (my fingerprint reader was totally dead for a year, tried reboot etc, sometimes worked for 2h and dead again)

Yeah, it's to early to make any conclusions, we should do more testing. Like let your date go to 31st and see if it stops working. Or set it to current one and reboot.

Ok so my sensor stopped working 1 hour after me writing here it was still working. Now I just did a spft reset and it's working again. I predict it will work for some time then stop, etc, until not working even after soft reset, like it did a year ago.

Alright, Im once again without fingerprint scanner but now i can't replicate earlier solution. I have tried to adjust date and i can't go more back than october 7th 2021. I've noticed that if i keep correct date, i have a red icon next to google security update but if I change the date to 30th of december, that icon will turns to green. Fingerprint reader is still missing but what do you think; does that have any effect?

Hi guys, first of all thank you very much for your help. My Xperia started to experience some problems with the fingerprint sensor for the last couples of week. Changing the date back to December 30th 2021, and a soft reset made the trick. The only problem is that the fingerprint disappeared a couple of days later. Changing the date back to December 30th 2021, and a soft reset didn’t bring back the fingerprint. After trying many things, I was able to bring the fingerprint back by deleting the cache and the user data of Side Sense App and after a normal restart the fingerprint appeared again. I hope this could help those who have had similar problems.

Finally, the sensor stopped working, there nothing I could do to make it work again. My last chance is to downgrade to an older firmware.

Help would be much appreciated.

    J9110 flashed with J8170.
On 55.0.A.10.26 (pie), used to say "PASS"
On latest 55.1.A.0.748, now says fail. but fingerprint sensor works fine.

    I'm guessing it's just a software issue.

Yeah I wish I had more time to test on Pie but I upgraded to 10 almost immediately and the fingerprint has been hit or miss from the start, but for the past day it's been quite bad.

Now it won't unlock unless I completely wipe down the sensor and make sure it's 100% clean, after which it unlocks just fine, but after that it won't unlock till I clean it again.

Quite frustrating, but judging from what I've read, it seems like Sony messed up big time with the Android 10 update for the X1, so I can imagine me and many others are eagerly waiting for a new update.

By the way, do you have any issues on a 'converted' device? Anything not working as intended? And do OTA updates work or do you have to flash every new build manually?

It works 90% of the time for me. Especially after I "trained" the fingerprint sensor. Basically open up the fingerprint settings, then constantly tap your finger, moving your finger slightly with each tap to cover your whole thumb.

IMO the update is fine! Well at least for me. I did a software reset after updating.

OTA updates fine Haven't tested out the dual sim, but I'm assuming it won't work. The only time I had to flash a new build was when I updated from Pie to 10, because I usually do a full wipe during a major update.

I succeed to revert back to Android 10, but it didn't solve the issue with the fingerprint. If you got some issue with another sensor, I will guess that the "drivers" for the sensor can be changed by an update but are not rolled back correctly, thus the creating issue or not solving mine since the faulty "driver" for the FP reader stay the same.

After a day of not even having the fingerprint management in the security options, Support asked me to do a forced reboot (volume up + power) to see if it solves momentarily the reader, there is a well known issue and they are working on a fix. It did solve the issue momentarily so I guess my FP reader is not completely dead (it was my conclusion seing it was still an issue once reverted to Android10) and I just have to wait for a fix.

Been having the same issue but I can get the fingerprint sensor to work sometimes after booting into safe mode and then booting normally, read that from another post somewhere but can't seem to find it. Mine also keeps disconnecting from LTE and drops to H+ and has been doing that a lot recently I hope that they will update some of this soon getting pretty frustrated with it, any of you been seeing that in addition to the fingerprint issue?

The fingerprint on my Xperia 1 is notice with "Could not read fingerprint", because "Fingerprint enrollment time limit reached" (like image attached)

Same issue, tomorrow I'll send the phone to a xperia repair center to see if it is a hardware or software problem
