This is some kind of ancient torture
Besides the ancient torture, I'm having an issue where the backlight adjusts way too fast according to the environment. Normally it sounds like a good thing, but if there's a rapidly changing lightsource nearby (TV screen, sunlight behind tree) the screen flickers constantly.

I'm still on 7.1.1 and that happens to me at random intervals. Sometimes it works great, other times it flickers rapidly like you said. A reboot seems to fix it, albeit temporarily.

4K has indeed been moved to regular video mode, but with some restrictions. Once you enable 4K object tracking will be disabled. Only colour/brightness controls for video in general.
Also no manual focus with any video modes? If so that is really disappointing, since 4K focus tends to be inconsistent and image overall looks soft on my Z5, plus you could ONLY adjust a constant white balance in 4K mode but not regular video mode. I've seen some samples of XZ and XZ1 where the white balance shifts a fair amount in indoor or low light conditions. This makes the video quality unreliable, for example at fireworks the video may look great but white balance will shift and the camera will re-focus.

Has the headphone volume been improved? Sony always sets it to a low output voltage, supposedly to comply to low volume standards, but many phones out there have higher voltage and better amping. Supposedly it is possible to increase the voltage with tweaks though.

UK unlocked

i got mine through clove uk so im assuming mine is the uk unlocked version ?
Me, too (enjoying the Sony Bluetooth speaker that was part of the day one promotion with Clove; using my phone on AT&T in USA). Yes, our variant is known as Customized UK, and our 7.1.1 build version is currently 45.0.A.7.137-R13A. I also join others in recommending xpericheck.com to track release of builds.
