AHAH
do you work at sony marketing and you got offended by my opinion? Cause your post makes no sense otherwise...
When i bought my z2 almost 2 years ago it was THE top notch device. 3GB RAM, snapdragon 801,
great screen, comfortable size, nice front stereo speakers, waterproof, huge battery, the best camera at the time, etc. It was very easy to justify it's flagship price and i still love the damn phone almost two years later.
Obviously i don't care about letters, naming or brands, i care about specs, functionality and price. That's were the X series fails for me because it brings nothing new to the table except slightly upgraded hardware. my biggest problem with the X series is the price range sony is placing the devices at giving it's specs, nothing else. I don't feel like an X performance is worth 700eur to upgrade from my Z2 (i would get a better cpu and camera, nothing else...i can get a z5p for less than 600eur and it still feels like a better option than the x for me).
IF you feel like it's worth it buy it, enjoy it, and stop criticizing other people opinions. I don't have a sentimental attachment to any brand so it's easy for me to choose the device that fits my needs for the best price am i not free to do that?
Honestly if i change to another brand the only thing i'll miss it's the great dev community sony has here at xda. and that doesn't include you obviously
Spoken like a true child.
My post makes perfect sense but I see already you're beginning to backpedal from someone whom just quoted you. I'll break it down for you.
1. only a child on forums (cliché of the last 4yrs) claims someone who doesn't agree with their opinion about a brand works for said brand (first bold quote above). Hence why I said grow up!

^ I stated that sales are affecting Sony's decision here to consolidate screen size and the specs along with shipping times and the brand sub-model here. SPECIFICATIONS like Skills or knowledge means nothing. It's sales to a company that continues to be a going-concern (accounting term) to make revenues that turn into profits and when sales don't go in that regard changes are inevitable for good or for worse, get used to this regardless if you don't like or do like the device ... change is here and in perfect timing. And like skills or knowledge both mean nothing without the means and the will to act ... using them (like drawing talent in a child that doesn't wish to pursue a career in that regard, drawing or visual arts is a useless skill).

Xperia Z5 Premium boasted the best screen (at least in terms of resolution and ppi).
The LG G Pro also released in April 2014 as teh Z2 had Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery

having a huge battery ... means nothing if the cpu, screen, storage and ram guzzles. Battery consumption efficiency and recharging efficiency is KEY because it's all about using the device.
4. Price ... this is a HUGE concern for what you get. No disagreements here from me ... BUT I did specifically state it's about getting more sales but more profits (the key) for Sony.
3 phones all sharing 5" LCD displays and resolution
All have the same storage options - consolidating and benefiting on economies of scale.
what you get vs what you loose in bold below. I've left out the battery because nobody knows the talk-time (continuous) standby time or continuous video/music playback times between the two on a production phone BUT if it increases you may reconsider.
