Engadget and V3 are quoting really bad battery life, is this genuinely the case for you guys who have one?

No. I'm actually pretty happy with it. The display is a big drain on high brightness but as long as you keep it in check you get a pretty good amount of screen-on time from it. Five to six hours isn't a problem (on WiFi).

More importantly, there is very little battery drain in standby. I have mine in Stamina Mode with five exclusions and the drain is less than one percent per hour. With WiFi it's only one percent every four to five hours and that is very, very impressive.

I usually end the day with 40 to 50 percent left, and that includes a lot of time spent in an area with very, very bad coverage. Much better than the Xperia S and T.

Thanks mate, put my mind at ease. Engadget are properly slating the battery life.

Hi i have the XZ and it came with 74% .. I installed it and played with the great phone: apps installed, set up accounts, twitter, pictures and videos about four hours and still had 46%. -28% also in about 4 hour (display on) extrapolated it will tell a nice value but you can say really only after 2 weeks :D

Battery life is a massive factor for me, I'm such a heavy user. My phones are always on charge though but like to know my phone will last the day if I'm out say from 3/4 in the afternoon till 2 in the morning. Stamina Mode will be on straight away when mine comes. I don't care about notifications from apps that much.

I'm Note 2 fan. So I'm used to long battery life. On 10 display and 10% is grade standard (with custom kernel and corresponding ROM) but the XZ it looks good and the STAMINA mode is cool ..

Easily. As I've said before battery drain in standby is extremely low, and I've only tested with data connection always on. If you use Stamina Mode without exclusions it'll kill the data connection when inactive and you really won't see it drain a lot.

Mine lasts all day (8 in the morning to 23 at night) with about 1/3rd spent on WiFi and everything else on always-on HSPA+ and a comfortable margin. I've never been worried about the battery life on this phone to be honest.

Re: Xperia Z battery life

Its kind of weird. Comparisons are showing the XZ gets worse battery life than the HTC butterfly (by quite a bit) and the butterfly has almost identical components and a smaller battery. Perhaps the XZ screen is more power hungry?? Or some included Sony software is a big battery drain...

Not trying to bash the phone I am just wondering how this can happen.

Just look at the battery comparisons between the Nexus 4 and the LG Optimus G. Identical phones.... and the Optimus G gets WAY better battery life (Almost double in video playback)

Just goes to show that a little optimization goes a LONG way. :)

Do you have a LTE model with the LTE turned on? And could you please make som screen shots of the battery stats. :)

I have the LTE model with LTE off (my provider doesn't offer it yet). I have tried a prepaid card from an LTE provider and the results were similar.

https://www.dropbox.com/sc/vmsvdnymmn2ojk6/JBC7JRBf3Y <- These were of my test day on LTE (bad reception in most places where I was for longer periods) with some heavy speedtesting at certain times. I get more screen on time now.

Yeah.... 5 hours is terrible compared to the Droid DNA/HTC Butterfly battery life. That review says 4 hours of media playback and the Butterfly gets 7.5

http://blog.gsmarena.com/htc-droid-dna-takes-battery-tests-heres-what-it-scored/

GSM Arena said they will use the Xperia Z in this exact test and give the results by the end of the week. I will be looking forward to the results.

Well, HTC has been working hard in battery life department since hard (true) critics went down on the HTC One.

One X+ is among the top dogs while the Butterfly is average good.

In the meantime, Sony hasn't been improving a lot throughout 2011-2012 battery life wise. That's also maybe why they put the Stamina on the XZ in order to resolve somehow some integrations problems through an add-on software (not saying it's not good, haven't tested in day to day use the XZ).

The same goes for Google and their Nexus devices, while having great softwares, somehow, when they mix up their top notch software with the hardware, battery life seems to take a hit (Nexus One, Nexus S (maybe the less problematic), Galaxy Nexus (known battery life issues), N4 (known battery life issues). Maybe the X Phone will give them the needed expertise while integrating software to hardware.

I've had the opportunity to play with both Z and ZL for around 1 week and I got approx a days use out of them both. In a normal situation I'm confident I could have got 25-30 hours if turning on STAMINA and not just playing with it.

"approx a day of use" --> A day ++ or a day -- ? :p
I mean is it short battery at the end of the day or not ? 20% 10% ?
Can you give a raw usage ? Voice, Data, SMS and co. ?
