Verdict

The Xperia Z is Sony’s best smartphone to date. It takes the ideas the company has been working on over the last few years, and throws them all together in a more refined and polished manner than ever before. It ticks all the right boxes, yet there’s something missing. Maybe it’s the design – it’s a beautiful, striking phone but it feels larger in the hand than other devices with a similar footprint. Maybe it’s the screen, which has stunning resolution but lacks the vibrancy that we’ve seen elsewhere. Or maybe it is the software, which adds little of true value. Or maybe we’re being too harsh. As a media device, a camera phone or a workhorse capable of devouring any task you throw at it we have absolutely no complaints.

The bottom line is the Xperia Z is a great example of a high-end Android smartphone. It bears comparison with the best phone of the last year, like the Galaxy S III and the Nexus 4, but it does not stand in a class of its own.

Sony is back, and in style. The extremely good hardware paired with Sony's flair for elegant design makes the Xperia Z something special. When you first see the device, you wouldn't suspect that it has such power, not to mention the fact that it's dust and water resistant. In addition, Sony has thought of most users' needs: light-weight, large display but small casing, fast, NFC, LTE, good battery life, a decent camera, and a sleek design. Granted, the glass back is a matter of taste, but this seems to bother noone, considering the iPhone 4/4S sales figures. How the Xperia Z will fare against the HTC One, which features a better CPU and stereo speakers, is something we'll have to test as soon as test samples of HTC's One will be available.

OK so firstly sorry for the long post ..

Just wanted to share a bunch of things with all for all those complaining
that they wasted 800+$ for this fone and complaining its a crappy phone , washed out color , crappy battery
sound clarity is worse ,

how many of you agree Sammy or LG have a great design ? its same curves in all the phones touchwiz is not that
great to start with does not allow any support to theme your phone , no option to beautiful widgets like SONY
I know many out there including me have longed to have the album , walkman , movies , Bravia engine insatll on
our sammy phone , I have note 2 note 1 S2 and One XL I have always wanted to have these apps why? cause they make your phone look
sexy n in style . build quality have you ever dared to drop your phone in water ?or a simple wooden floor? if yes you
know what happend with the screen in the first place . i have had a X10 for long time now and have dropped a billion time without any casing and not one scratch . SONY really puts the best materials in the build quality which is very durable
than any other manufacturers , I have so many people use shattered iphones screen cracked. never seen a sony phone

for all that compare the phones sammy or any other manufacturer cannot come close to the precision engineering of sound
technology with SONY , SONY STYLE has been the iconic thing for ages where SONY is the one who always sets the trend
they have been in this business for ages than Samsung untill the galaxy series kicked in , who can forget those walkman
phones and the Kseries cybershot with megabass technology on phones they pioneered it .

The screen yes Sammy have AMOLED which are rich and vibrant in color but zoom in on pics it starts to grain , the amoleds
have a great history of burn in issues along with the life of the OLEDs , they have problems with deep blacks and whites
untill note1 they used pentile technology ,I dont think anyone would use phone in wierd angles of 180degree of 90 Degree
its always head on or a bit tilted keeping on the dock or desk , and in that matter the display is brilliant .

Why did you buy a sony in the first place ? why? cz the look sexy and awsome it catches the eyes in the first look
unlike anyother plasticky body phones
none of the technology has been copied inthe phone , for that matter if you see the S4 specs leaked nothing great
just another 300MAH more in battery , and 8 core processor which in any condition would run only 4 cores
rest all features like eye scrolling , smart stay and all those are software features which can be built into any android
phone ,

with little organization of the apps and screen settings you can get a decent full day's juice out of the XZ , let it be any phone we all carry a portbale charger always so you can charge it anywhere let it be note 2 or apple in due course
third parties will come up with solution to juice up the phone with external fitting or housing to get more power .

so summary all those complaining that you wasted 800$ dont crib else you wont enjoy the beautiful piece of art crafted
by the Legends in style business SONY .

I am not a SONY Fan boy or a SAmMY hater , just a neutral man seeing so many posts compaints and analysing

Here's my mini review :)

I'll try to sum up my experience so far.

THE GOOD
This phone looks phenomenally good. I love the monolithic design and the all black exterior. The absence of ports (or them being covered with flaps) makes the phone look very sleek. The power button placement is the best I've come across so far, I wonder how no one else has come to the idea to place it there. :) The overall build quality is great, much better than the S3 I had before this phone, although the S3 was put together very well and had no big problems in that department.

The performance of the phone is absolutely staggering. I tried torturing the phone to find its flaws in the software and failed miserably. It works effortlessly, the 2 GB of RAM really shows and makes multitasking a breeze.

The HD resolution is fantastic, I really strained to see individual pixels on the screen but my shoddy eyes can't discern them. :D makes watching HD video (with BRAVIA) a real joy. There are gripes about the screen, yes, more of that in THE BAD section below.

I find the UI reasonably okay, I love the Walkman lockscreen widget. While I'm talking about Walkman, I have to commend the sound quality of the phone and the adjustments that can be made in that department. Makes using the phone as a media centre in my car a joy. Also, the supplied headset is absolutely fabulous, great sound (once you manage to fit it in your ears, though).

THE BAD

The screen. Maybe it's just my unit, but the colors are nowhere near the AMOLED screen on the S3 which has great, rich (over)saturated colours and great blacks. Not that big a deal for me, maybe once we (maybe) get the screen calibration app we will be able to manage the picture. And yes, viewing angles are not that good. BUT - it's not as bright as the S3's AMOLED which made watching Family Guy in bed last night in a pitch black room a joy for my eyes.

The all glass surface of the phone is a massive fingerprint magnet, within 20 minutes of unpacking it my phone already looked as if it came from a muddy trench :D

The protective flaps on the phone's body will be a massive nuisance to some people, I personally don't mind (a small price to pay for having a waterproof phone).

The vibration motor is... weird. Makes a weird sound when typing fast when it winds up. The camera takes a bit too long to open.

Compared to the S3, wifi range is smaller. At the same place (my garage) I got 1-2 bars of wifi with the S3, no reception with the Z.

My LED notifications don't work. I will reset the phone later today and see if it fixes things.

The feeble speaker is the biggest dissapointment. No, wait, it isn't. The speaker placement is. :D it is really hard to hold the phone without covering it.

THE UNKNOWN

Battery life is still a mystery to me, charged it fully the first time last night, gonna give it a couple of full cycles. Also, haven't had the time to try Stamina mode.

This is it so far, will update with more info.
