Some videos showing the screen.

This one is in Russian comparing the Japanies Z to the rest of the world Z. You don't need to understand Russian to see how they compare.

These compare the screen to other leading phones.

It's because of the viewing angles, if you look at the beginning the European version actually looks more vibrant. The thing is that a slight tilt already makes a small difference the phones are recorded from different angles relative to the camera. Since you don't see any difference when viewing the screen head on and the difference in view angles are really minor I think it is just the positioning of the phones relative to the camera. Also because in the first part the European looks slightly better. If you look at the screen bottom up it tens to be slightly more blue with gives it slightly more vibrancy if you look top down it gives a bit more yellow causing white to be slightly yellow and thus has a tiny effect on contrast
Hi There.

This is exactly why I started this thread, because I personally believe that there are various screen quality like with the iphones/ipads.
I say this because I have had 2 phones which are identical except for the screen which is much more saturated on one than the other with an almost redish tint at times which I think has really good contrast. for example when all lights are off and I look at the screen the phone with lesser quality (lets call it phone 1) has a reflective feel to the grays in the settings menu and in the app drawer while the better phone (phone 2) has an almost indistinguishable reflection compared to phone 1 and the contrast is very high as well with no light, especially on the black background everyone is flaunting around.

One of the problem with all these videos is that they are made in a very bright environment with the brightness cranked up all the way which is not your typical scenario as a day to day user so the results can be obscured any further. What I want to know is what have people who have in fact been able to compare two phones at typical usage settings have found. This Domoco Phone that everyone refers to also has completely different ROM by the look of it and I can attest that one of the major issues with Sony's design is their choice of grays, you would have thought that someone told them that gray does not help with contrast and therefore with super users which most people who will buy this phone will be. I WANT MY CONTRAST :)

I was initially against the gray menu's but after a couple of days uses it is growing on me, this is because lots of apps aren't actually black, like Spotify, Tabtu, pocket cast, Dolphin browser, whats'app etc most of those apps actually uses lighter gray than the menu bar. The only app that uses black that I use frequently is kaiten mail and the black against the gray looks kinda ugly. So in retro spec I think it looks better with most applications I use than it would with black.
