Here is how I rooted my SO-02E on the latest 4.2.2 OTA update.

Using flashtool I flashed my phone back to version .343 to get rid of CWM I had installed.
I used Doomlord Easy rooting toolkit v17 (here on XDA) to get Root access.

In SU application, I disabled root.

I run the OTA update to 4.2.2

in SU application I enabled root.

Hope it helps owners of Japanese Xperia Z.

Hello everyone, I'm new user for so-02e.. & I'm currently using the official 4.3 journalist & commercial firmware.. If i'm rollback to 4.2.2 docomo firmware & wanted to root it without unlock the bootloader.. I only have to use the doomlord toolkit? Or is there another way to root it?

Why are you trying to rollback? Are you having problems with the 4.3 journalist & commercial firmware? I also have a so-02e but when I upgraded to 4.3 journalist & commercial firmware my phone shows me up a message saying that there is no simcard. Which method do you use for upgrade to 4.3 ?

i'm rolling back to 4.2.2 docomo version because there isn't root method without unlock the bootloader for 4.3 at the time being :), & yes i found a problem using the journalist & commercial firmware, i can't use the NFC, it won't tick the list.

I'm using the normal flash tools (not the xperia flash tools), probably you should flash it again or try other 4.3 official firmware on other region in this forum like singapore, greece, portugal etc, probably more stable than the journalist version.

I have a question regarding this rom.
If I have the language set to English in the international version, kanji renders as the Chinese version, does the same happen with the SO-02E firmware?

Will flashing SO-02E firmware ock my phone to docomo?

Does everyone here using the "R" signal?

It's a bit annoying not knowing whether the signal is Edge/HSPA/LTE..

How can i replace this signal with the normal signal sign?

I have a question. Just got a Docomo Xperia Z and was reading reports of the screen digitizer glass just breaking for no reason inside people's pockets. Any setups (particular cases, screen protectors, ect) people can recommend to prevent this?

Also.... I am aware that the bootloader is locked and I am familiar with flashing roms. So there is zero chance that I can install custom roms?

Hello,

I just updated to 4.4.2 ROOT using one of the unbranded international ROM.

By doing so you will lose Felica and the Earthquake warnings.

Here is how I did it:

You need to have a rooted SO-02E
Then install XZ Dual recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606

Then update to 4.4.2 pre-Rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...k-rom-kitkat-ncb-pre-rooted-recovery-t2759143

Then you have to update your APN if you are in Japan on Docomo like me:
You are likely on spmode
http://www.japanmobiletech.com/2011/04/docomo-access-point-names-apn.html

Finally, do not forget to activate 4G on your phone.

It works all good on mine.

it stopped working after i upgraded to 4.4.2 - i did some search and it seems root access is needed to get it working again. and its so troublesome to root...

I have given up on spmode mail a long time ago so I cannot answer your question.
If you followed my method you should be rooted though.

How to use another sim card with Xperia Z SO-02E?

Hi, I recently became an owner of a Docomo Xperia Z that my Japanese friend forgot during her homestay in the U.S. She now has a new phone and she told me to do whatever I wanted with the phone, and I decided to give it to my cousin who's really into all things Japanese.
The version is 4.2.2 and build number is 10.3.1.B.1.1, but it is locked to the Docomo service provider.

Does anyone know any loop-hole or method to bypass this lock on sim cards so my cousin can use a pre-paid plan? I don't care if I enter the "dark side" of anything or voiding any warranties as my two choices are giving this as a viable phone or tossing it in the (electronics) recycling bin.

Thank you very much,
St3cky

Docomo unlocks it for $30 but it is obviously not an option for you.
I would check if any website sells unlock codes. It usually also costs around $30
I sim-unlocked my LG from docomo this way a couple of years ago.

Keep in mind that Japanese Xperia Z have a locked bootloader and that this cannot be changed so you'll be limited to official ROMs.

Please, do not throw it away! Worst case scenario there are plenty of people here in Japan who would be happy to use it and pay for the shipping fees.

Are there any sites where I can sell a phone to a Japanese target audience? And if I were to do so, would I still have to unlock the phone? Most unlock sites seem to be only tailored to U.S. phones, rather than international/Japanese ones.

Yahoo auction is the major one in Japan but you would have to navigate through Japanese pages and set an announce in Japanese.

If no one can help you with that your second best shot is Craigslist Tokyo. More limited audience but still worth trying.
