So... Sony is updating Xperia Z fixing sudden death issue. There's no update with me for now btw. I was so worried cos this looked to me a drastic issue.

Given that TFT and type of back-lighting are two totally unrelated aspects of LCD displays

almost all lcd panels are tft including ips oled. and nowadays all mobile device screens are led backlit. do you think they can fit traditional ccfl in those inches thin panels?
You really need to learn about what makes good panels rather than chasing buzz words without understanding jack.

What exactly is this "ips oled" of which you speak? buzzwords chased without understanding?
While IPS is a type of LCD (as is TN), OLED has virtually nothing in common with LCD.
LCD has a back-light (increasingly LED these days) shining through coloured filter picture elements
made of liquid crystal (which are switched via thin film transistors, I doubt that they have used
anything else for switching in over twenty years).
In OLED the picture elements are themselves light emitting diodes (made using organic compounds),
no filters and no back-lighting.

then the Xperia S that Trollololol seems to like so much has a TN panel, albeit one of the better ones.

I was going to get the ZL but tested it at the store and it seems laggy for some reason as oppose to what every owners has described. If its the first ONE Sony phone, I can see Sony going all out in specs, and late release might be key lime pie on day 1.

Honami is coming July in Japan. Will see worldwide release/announcement in mid-September.
