But you can root the latest Android 4.2.2 without problems. 534 isn't the latest. Just look on which fw are based all custom roms, on 257.

Yup. That's an option. I'm actually already on 257. And I try not to use Roms these day. Sketchy feeling. So I would rather just use a patch.

Yes, I'm talking about zip to flash in cwm. Just backup your files in Titanium Backup to save all apps.

Proud owner of Xperia Z1 two days ago. Locked BL (for the moment), rooted .534 (for the moment!), flashed krabappel deodex patch. Everything is OK and even I don't lost the root! Thanks krabappel!
