The exact same thing happened to me with a few USB flash drives. I don't think it would be too far fetched to assume the flash memory in the Atrix can die or malfunction just like any other. And no, in that case there won't ever be a fix since that would be entirely a hardware issue.

I have this exact problem. No matter what I do, nothing gets wiped. I read this entire post. Unfortunately, there is no solution.
