That procedure worked for me when I upgraded to -49 and -64. But I have used a filefactory source for the files, and that's not working anymore for me, so I can't tell.
Files where named differently, but that doesn't mean anything.
XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139-48_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-XT1644_CFC.xml.zip
XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139-49_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-XT1644_CFC.xml.zip
XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139-64_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip

LE: Link works now.

flash question

Yes, fastboot is avail after you unlock the bootloader on Motorola site (loosing the warranty).
I have booted into TWRP to root (SU systemless method), but didn't actually flash it (because I don't plan to switch to CM at this point).

Can anyone confirm that flashing this file ATHENE_MPJ24.139-48_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=72578, is for the US version of the XT1644? Furthermore will the flashing procedure outlined here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67031808&postcount=4 work? Lastly will this allow me to take the Nougat 7.0 OTA update without bricking the phone? Thank you.
This is the exact file and source I used to take the ota update to 139-64 on my XT1644. I used a different flashing method however so I could keep my data...http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/guide-sucsessfull-ota-update-rooting-t3472658. I had to reflash TWRP, reroot and add the netprovisioning line to build.prop afterwards, but it worked much better than I thought it would. I am going to wait until I get OTA notification for Nougat and will probably use this method again to upgrade. I don't know if it will work or not, but I have no idea why it shouldn't. Good luck.

I have bought mine unlocked and it is "retus". It has the MPJ 24.139-48 fw. Radio is M8952_70009.08.03.45R ATHENE_RETUSA_CUST.
If I check the update it says it's up-to-date.
I have one with same configuration, 64Gb version. I bought from Amazon (unlock version). But I don't get OTA updates. If I check the update it says 'up-to-date' always. This version don't receive updates? What's wrong?
Tks.

I am not sure, I have unlocked the bootloader and side-loaded the latest MM firmware.
But even when I did flash back the original firmware, I never got the OTA update either.

Motorola doesn't roll out the updates globally at the same time. They provide a soak test in a region for people who are willing to try the new build. Then they to the update in that region/country. Where you buy your phone (country and/or retailer) will make a difference when the update becomes available.
For the Original Moto G, I received the updates to Lollipop and Marshmallow many weeks after they were available in Brazil and India.
Be patient, they will come!
Here is where you can check if it is available where you live/bought your phone. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/1949

I agree with you, but I not received any maintenance update as well. My release is MPJ24.139-48 and I saw that exists a release MPJ24.139-63 that never arrived in system update.

Once the ota comes through someone will post. Manual by reading the script is always the best choice. You know what is be updated and how to update yourself. I am on my 2nd amazon unlocked through Motorola. It came updated to 64. The issue was with the WiFi, gradually becoming weaker over 4 months. I had unlocked the device after a month. The first device did receive the ota from original to 64. This not what I expected from Motorola, as they had a good reputation of passing along updates and stuck to mostly to stock. Lenovo has greatly diminished moto, and now puts Chinese and test guinea pig India as their first in line. That's what you get when American Corporations are sold outside the country. America is weaker for allowing Corporations to run a muck. They the politicians say there is nothing that can be done. They Congress holds all the power to regulate Commerce and the President controls executive power to enforce. Believe it or not. All trade issues can be changed in seconds if we change the same politicians to a real citizen politician. Everyone's issues here at home will change also.
