I myself will reply for my question :)

Motorola razr XT912 is unlocked by default in ice cream sandwich update.
You can also manually unlock it in 2.3 version too.
The mobile phone would work in gsm mode only in non USA operators.

Since no one has responded to my request let me answer my own questions :

1) Moto Razr XT912 4.1.2 can be unlocked to be used on GSM ( am using in IND )
2) Root Exploit is also available which enables & provides you root access. ( Which is highly Easy : all thanks to those who developed it )

I liked the phone so much that bought another for normal use and one for Ubuntu ;)

Well, yes I know you can use GSM on stock unlocked verizon's XT912 on ICS(or later), but the thing I really want to know is:
When it comes to choose a custom rom, using the cdma_spyder version, will stop my gsm working?
Will a umts_spyder version of the software brick the phone?
Actually I still can't understand the real differences between the two motherboards (I even read that putting a xt912's battery in a xt910, will make the phone think it's a MaXX)
Again, thank you kindly:)

XT912 & XT910 are same phone with same chipset TI OMAP 4430. Only difference in the two is while the prior is Global Phone ( all frequency support ) later is GSM Only ( and 2MP front cam vs 1.3MP ).

XT912 conversion to Maxx is completely different. XT910 & XT912 both have same battery 1780mAH while the Maxx has 3300mAH battery.

For Ubuntu Touch I plan to have UMTS_sypder custom ROM https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/umts_spyder ( at my own risk )

I won't be able to tell much, as all I am doing is on my own gathering bits and pieces from the fourm ( as no one seems to come forward with all the answers clearly. )

Wow, so you just destroyed my castle... I mean I tought "XT912" was the code for MAXX, and now I don't actually know what I'm buying, and what I SHOULD search for!
All this confusion is putting me on an italian xt910, but this will mean no 3300mAH battery... :(

my understanding 912 is a hybrid qualcomm mdm 6600 ti wrigley LTE radio chipset and the 910 is a qualcomm msm 890 snapdragon Soc. that is why the american gsm unlock thread utilizing radiocomm will not work on a xt912. it will recognize the sim and number but the radio portion of the chipset is directed to pass over the american carriers. the 912 will work in europe and central america on foreign prepaid sim cards. i have one and tried it. still looking for an american gsm unlock fix for an xt912.

This comes from completely nob point of view, I just disabled entitelment check on my thetering of XT912, if there is an option of check on GSM also you could disable the same ( as I said am not sure whether there is such option available or not ).

So is this phone GSM unlocked and can be used out of USA out of the box? Any luck on getting the GSM unlocked for US Networks?
