I think that everyone is so stuck in the "cloud" (sorry bad pun) that internal space is not even a thought anymore. So SD is not much around anymore.

I don't see why we can't have both???

It really doesn't have to be one or the other!

The new Galaxy Nexus also does not have a Micro SD slot! Really pisses me off!

I use cloud service, but its really not convenient if you're on a plane or somewhere with a bad internet connection! Just not cool at all!

How is one to flash a rom or kernal without micro sd? I've heard of apps that can do it but i've always used micro sd to put roms on my xoom. Could this be their idea , they did this so we couldn't put custom roms on it? Also, Is the bootloader locked on the xyboard?

Re: Name - The problem with 'Xyboard' is that English speakers are conditioned to enunciate it as 'ex-why-board', as opposed to 'psy-board'. It sounds better when pronounced per the latter, although 'board' as a play on 'borg' + 'tab/slate/pad' is awkward and also doesn't sound well.

X is always a cool letter to use in names. X-men. Xtreme. Xcel. Given Verizon's apparent settling on the X-prefix--like Apple's i-prefix--you can get some snappy name combo: Xite, Xtream (for the ME model), Xcision, etc. Troll the dictionary for X words.

Anyway, it's trivial. Nobody thought that the Wii was a great name either, but the thing still sold loads.

Re: Price - The first reaction is sticker shock, but it's not intended for the mainstream. Those who'd pay for a second (or third) wireless connection aren't the price-sensitive consumer type. And if you think about it, there's not much difference between $500 + 720 = $1220 and $400 + 720 = $1120. The bulk of the cost is still in the wireless charge, which is the same.

It's obviously not going to sell in large numbers, but the intent is to fill a niche--demanded by the carrier--for business travelers. Price is unimportant, as it would be expensed.

>Is the bootloader locked on the xyboard?

Probably. The ME is advertised as having Netflix HD (hence the Media Edition moniker). Certification for such requires a locked bootloader, which was touted by TI for its OMAP4 platform. The Nook Tablet has same.

Not really sure on this one - I've only really charged it overnight, and I wouldn't know what a good recharge time would be!
Thanks dude... Here is a comparison chart showing recharge times... as you can see the Xoom FAMILY Edition (which also uses Micro USB charging like the xoom 2) is the slowest one.

The original Xoom has the best charging times because it has a dedicated AC adapter!

I never knew exactly how long it took for xoom to charge. Cool chart. I gotta imagine the xyboard is around five/six hours like the family because of the USB charge. Another xoom win:D

I cringed when I saw the micro usb port on my Xyboard. Its just not the same without the awesome charging capabilities of the Xoom! I have to say, I am not impressed by this device in the least. I thought it would at LEAST be lighter, but its just as damn heavy. I'll stick with my OC'd Tiamat running Xoom anyday over this.

On the other hand, the form factor of the 8.2 is AWESOME! Really liking that one, probably the only thing I like. Its super light and easy to carry around, the polar opposite of its bigger brother.

The 8.2 is something to consider, forget the 10.1, its almost the exact same thing we have in more ways than one. Its still just as heavy and almost as thick.

I have the original xoom & I like it but this new xoom is IMO...not even an upgrade lol.I'm putting my money on the Asus Prime.

Motorola has failed big time with this product. I was expecting something big from them.Oh well. The Prime runs all over this thing!! Even Samsung is bringing out something better than their SGT....see for yourself

I'm like the only one excited about this product lol

How can you say the weight is the same?

From the Motorola website:

Xyboard 10.1: 603 grams

Original Xoom: 708 grams (4G version is 730 grams)

:-D
